Look out, Game Boy Color. When it comes to serious portable gameplay, there's finally some legitimate competition for the popular Nintendo system (which has sold over 80 million units). If you dare to be different, consider the NEOGEO Pocket Color, a hand-held system created by the Japanese company SNK.

The screen is 10 percent bigger than Game Boy's, but the overall machine has roughly the same convenient pocket-sized dimensions and light weight as the Game Boy. The NEOGEO Pocket Color provides up to 40 hours of continuous fun on just two AA batteries. The 16-bit graphics are crystal clear--making it easy to tell the difference between humans and animals, friends and foes, and walls and doors--and easily viewed in both bright and dim lighting. The color palette has three times the range of its competitor's, with 146 possible shades. There is also a built-in calendar, daily horoscope, alarm clock, and global clock that can be accessed even without a game cartridge in the slot. Two players can go head-to-head with a simple cable connection (sold separately). NEOGEO is available in six different casing colors: silver, clear, blue, ocean blue, stone blue, and anthracite.

The only drawback is that NEOGEO is new and, therefore, playing catch-up to Nintendo's well-stocked list of titles, which boasts A-list offerings such as Super Mario Brothers, Pokémon Pinball, and Tetris. But SNK scores points for the few titles that it does offer for the system. Among the better titles for NEOGEO are Dragons Wild video poker, arcade classicsBust-A-Move and Pac-Man, and your basic serve-and-volley Pocket Tennis. I ordered the Neogeo Pocket Color just for the novelty of it.I hadn't even held one before, let alone played one.So I ordered two, one for my friend and one for me, not expecting anything great at all.

Simply said: SNK has created an amazing handheld experience.You may think "but it's an out-dated handheld, there's no way that I would enjoy it."And I would have agreed with you a couple days ago.SNK produced games so well for this little handheld that I have not experienced anything like it through out my years of playing videogames.These games don't feel like they should be on a handheld at all, they're as deep as any other console game and they look great!Not only are the games great, the NGPC is small and lighter then I expected.It runs off two AA batteries for 40 HOURS!I thought to myself "40 hours?That can't be right, thats impossible," but it's true!Built in clock, calander, horoscope, world time, and alarm are a GREAT addition as well.

I am a Gameboy Advance freak, with 33 GBA games in my library. I wrote this review on Dec. 12, 2003. I know next-gen gaming.One last note from a serious gamer:

I am truely dissapointed and confused why the Neogeo Pocket Color has not swept the handheld industry.The quality of this little console amazes me, even today, when gaming technology is more advanced.If only other companies would take a lesson from SNK, and start producing as GOOD a handheld experience as the NGPC.

I would recomend this gem for ANYONE.Games are few to choose from, but most you see here on Amazon are excelent.

Buy a SNK Neo Geo Pocket Color!!!
This is a great system.It is very affordable, and fun.Even if you are a die hard GBA/SP fan like me, I would still recommend a SNK Neo Geo.You can easily pick up games for this system at a fraction of the cost of other games.The graphics are really good, and the overall feel of the system in my hands is good.I really like the 8-way joy stick.Overall - just a very neat system that is often overlooked.SNK rules!

One of the greatest yet least heard of handheld,
I useally don't write reviews unless I really like what I got. Anyway,I just recently bought my NeoGeo Pocket and I was amazed. I used to own a gameboy color and a gameboy advance, but this is better than the two. This 16 bit console compared to a 32 bit gameboy advance. To me, The graphics on the NeoGeo is better. And most of the games on the GBA are from the snes. It's basically a handheld snes(super nintendo). So what I'm trying to say is, the graphics are 16 bit 'cause the snes is. The GBA does have more games than the neogeo. There is 50 on the GBA, over 1000 in the gameboy library, but the graphics are [bad] on the gameboy. The screen is a bit smaller(2.6 compared to 2.85) but It's no big deal. It's also more economical. ... The games look and play the same as the GBA. The NeoGeo also has a joystick(joy) compared to the gameboy advance which still keeps the D-Pad. The games are a bit hard to find, but worth it. This is truly a great system.

A handheld that wasn't understood,
I just got my NeoGeo pocket and I was amazed! I used to own a gameboy and a gameboy advance and this is better than both of them. First of all, it has a joystick(joy) but nintendo still keeps the D-Pad. Yes, the screen will be a bit smaller than the GBA(2.6 compared to 2.85), but i didn't see a difference. It's a 16 bit powerhouse(compared to the GBA, which is 32 bit)but the games look and play the same as the GBA. Also, the Game boy has over a thousand games in it's library, but the graphics are crappy. And most of the "New" GBA games are mostly the same games from the snes. The GBA is basically a portable snes. Anyway, most of the games on the NeoGeo are likeable, like sonic pocket adventure, metal slug 1st and 2nd mission, match of the millenium SNK vs. Capcom, Biomotor Unitron(a pokemon clone) and many others. The games are a little hard to find, but are worth it. This is truly a great handheld that everyone should have a chance to play.

MEGA COOL!
WOW! this is the BEST gameboy case out there! it can hold 6 to 8 games, 2 sets of batteries, link cable, and those new nifty nintendo earbud earphones. and instruction booklets, and a worm lite. i lost mine though when i was moving, and im getting a new different case for subscribing to a magazine. if that case dosent work, im buying this one!

This Is A Must
This is probably the most convient thing Nintendo has made. I got it for christmas and it helps me organize my games. Like when i go on vacation before i had it i was searching my room for my gameboy games, now I alwyas know where they are. It is also strong and durable and it can hold a lot of games and accessories. This is a must for any gamer with gameboy.

One of the Better Cases Out There
This case is great and beats the Pokemon case although I reccomend that a lot. This case can fit a Game Boy Color, about eight games or so, and any hardware that you might own for your Game Boy. This is one of the better cases that Nintendo has made. There is just one minor problem with the case. It does not give enough support for the Game Boy. Like I said that is a very minor problem. Buy and enjoy. It is a great thing to own for any Game Boy user!

The ultimate memory experience.
.... This item is cool. It's small, portable, has a carrying case(easy to lose though...), and has a LOT of memory! 16 different files of memory. That's more than I need. Enjoy, and remember, if you have 16 games requiring a memory pak, buy this.

Perfect
When I got this I thought it was goinging to be ok but I was wrong IT WAS PERFECT it just couldn't get even better.(To tell you the truth I thought it was to good for me.)

Great Basic Card
This card is your basic memory card that is the same as the color ones but it is just plain ol grey.It still works the same but the cost is less and that makes me happy.Buy two or three just because it saves money.Great deal.

i like this product very much. i use this mostly in the car when i go on trips or i am very bored, but i think it is good. Just say that you just created a player on a game and you want to save it, you can, just like any normal memory card, right? Wrong, this also lets you take it with you and you can edit you character in the car or any where, and it will save the changes that you added. Wrong type of controller
I just want to inform potential buyers that if you are looking at their pictures of controllers and getting the warm fuzzy Nintendo brand item feel then think again.These people very subtly mention that the color AND BRAND may vary.DO NOT BUY THIS IF YOU WANT A NINTENDO BRAND CONTROLLER.I wanted one and after I clicked purchase I realized that was written there.I e-mailed them about this and heard no reply back.Ohh well, just make sure you read the subtle fine print

"grape" controller N64
I received a standard grey controller...sure it arrived in a reasonable amount of time and it appears new and it works fine, but if I was going to get a standard controller I would have picked a cheaper vendor offering a standard controller.My kids would have thought the grape one was coool.

WAY TOO EXPENSIVE
dont get me wrong, this remote is good and looks cool, but there are cheaper ones on this website that work just as good and cost half as much

Best controler for an okay system.
If you insist on using the N64, I highly recomend you stick with the official N64 controlers.I have seen and used all sorts of third party controlers, and they are all terrible.
The official controler isn't great, it wears out with any heavy use (don't expect it to last more than a year).But it the best that the N64 has.

The Best Rumble Pak!
I've used rumble/force paks before, for all kinds of systems, they are good but this one has to be the best I've ever seen. It works great, it doesn't vibrate too hard, but just enough, it makes the games seem 100 times more realistic, I love this thing. It is also a better buy than the Sega brand pak, the Sega one doesn't vibrate as well and is more expensive. If you have a DreamCast, you *MUST* get this, it is the best!

Shock pretty good!
Not bad for the price. It works better than the Sega one and it doesn'tovershake and mess up your VMU! I am gonna get another one for my 2ndplayer controller!

Too Much fun can end the life of this product
The product works extremely well.It worked with every game that I have and added a sense of realism to the game. Unfortunately it stopped working after a month because some of my friends were getting too excited playingthe games and shook the controller (with the Force-Pack) too much.After20 minutes, they had broken the Force-Pack (unintentionally though.)So ifyour kids (or yourself) are a little too jumpy when you play games, youmight have the same experience that I had. If the thing didn't break soearly, I would have given it 5 stars.

Great for the price!!!
This is not the best thing I have ever seen but is good enough.In order to change the controls you have to go into the game's main menu. I use San Francisco Rush,California Speed and Perfect Dark. This may not work with some games.

Excellent for its purpose!
This controller was obviously designed for racing,games which it is great for and also works for some 3rd person shooters and a few action games.However,for all other games genres,I would reccommend using the standard N64 controller.Based on this,don't think this is a nad controller because it won't work with most types of games,as it is designed for racing titles and action games where you drive something such as Battle Tanx,so complaining that this doesn't work well for use with certain games is like complaining that a steering wheel and gas pedal for games is bad because it won't work for 3-D action games and stuff like that.

that funny 64 racing controller
well this controller seems really weird to start withbut is easy to control eventually. The wheel on top is used to steer but it is hard to accelerate by pressing A button and steering wheel with 1 hand so you have to use 2 hand on small stick and it looks really funny. But wen you are used to it u can use it with 1 hand and then play against yourself with a controller in each hand.

I think that the Ultra racer is pretty cool!!It looks like its complicated to use though.Otherwise it looks ok to me!!

I love it!
I love this toy because I can get far in a game. Without it you would have to leave the system on all day because once you shut off the game all of the things you just did are erased, this only is for some N64 games. Plus I love the coler.

you will be lucky if it saves your game$
I have one and when ever I use it I cane only use it ones then I have to go to another one cause it says damege in memoy cardso I can't save any games any more so fare I say its mesed up and just a waist of money unlessyou raly want it but I dont realy know cause I got mying from wal-mart in withch whats the differentce. pickachu rocks
This system is absolutely great!!! It was a gift for a six year old boy, and he just loves it.However, I can only give it 4 stars out of 5 because the controller is a little difficult for small hands.Otherwise I would definitely recommend this system to anyone who loves Pickachu-like we do!!

Exellent quality and value
This POKEMON HARDWARE BUNDLE is the nintendo 64 but it inclues lots of equipment to use. I'm not a big pokemon fan but playing the game it comes with can be quite entertaining for kids. I enjoyed the game. Mostly I am now playing sports games on it like NFL blitz and WWF games. Good starter set of the nintendo 64. For 49 dollars it is a great deal.

Excellent Value and Quality
My 4-yr-old is in love with Pikachu (I personally prefer JigglyPuff!). This Nintendo is great introduction to video games for the pre-school/kindergarten age group that Pokemon seems to dominate. We loved the HEY YOU PIKACHU game - where you TALK TO PIKACHU and hang out with him to have a PIKA PARTY, although I found the little yellow rodent would only obey me if I spoke in a squeaky, high-pitched voice!

I Bought the Pikachu Hardware Bundle
I Bought the Pikachu Hardware Bundle for me and my 4 year old.The N64 works just fine, like any other N64 except it has Pikachu on the case.My advice is if you want it, go for it.Our unit works just fine.The microphone works ok.Just remember to buy an extra hand controller.

Personally, I HATE Pokemon, but for the people who do...this is so amazing. It comes with a limited edition Pikachu N64 (which you press his foot to reset, and move the pokeball to turn it on, and when it is, his cheek lights up). It comes with all the hook-ups too. It comes with Hey You Pikachu!, the hottest game on the market today, the voice recognition piece, and an animated Pokemon C-Watch. How much better can it get for a pokemon lover. If I loved pokemon (ask yor parents first), i would sell my N64, and buy this bundle...it's the same price as a dreamcast, but it comes with more. Very, Very Bad
I'm slow to give a 1-star rating, but this certainly takes it.First, the grip is hard.The grip it thin and small extends vertically from the controller.The Z-Button on all three of the ones I got broke within a month after moderate use.The controller gets greasy SO easily.Never, ever get this, no matter how desperate you are to save money.

Gaming from a distance
I have had common problem of not having enough length for my gaming needs.when this came out Iw as like damn I have got to et a few of these. now I can play across the room and have no problems whatsoever.I use it every time I play.

good distance

If it is Pokemon, they have to have it
It is Pikachu, or whover he is. Somehow the kids are convinced if it is a special Pokemon Edition GB they will better trainers. My daughter loves the cool colors, they seem better able to pick out their own GB from a pile, so I have been told. This is all I know, they love it. So get it in their favorite color.

this is great for any pokemon fan.you can play your games on it (the ones that r just gameboy too)and it come w/ batteries. they lasted for about 20 hours! i like the pikachu and pichu design on the sides of the screen. if you need a gameboy color or you just like pokemon you should consider buying this.it'll be worth something later and it's the same price.

A definate for Pokemon and Gameboy Lovers
I brought myself a regular Gameboy Color and had it for about three months before these gameboys were released.I am not usually one to follow trends, but I brought one of these Limited Gameboys for two reasons... I am a Gamyboy Lover and somewhat of a Pokemon Collector.This is the Ulitimate Collectors item.Can you imagine how much it will sell for in the future to those who are fans of Pokemon now??.

I was a huge fan of the Ninja Turtles... and I tell you what... if they had a gameboy released when I was younger I wouldn't have been able to afford it, but now I that I have a steady income I could and I would.All the eight year olds you see running around now are going to be dying to get one of these in ten years from now...!!

This is a definate collector item and it's highlight is the two-tone colour it has - it flecks gold and silver!!... better than any other Gameboy that you can find!!.

nintendo addicttor
well im a huge nintendo fan. I really dont know much about the super scope but all I know is that this is for battle clash yoshies safari. I remember years ago when supernintendos were out they had this awsome commercial of battleclash where the bad guys shoot from out of the television the guy grabs the superscope and shoots back at the tv. I heard of this game along time ago but I forgot you need a superscope in order to play this game and now im getting one its sweet. brings me back to the early 90s.

great game!
I love the super scope. I've had one since they first came out. I lost the sight though and just got a replacement. There are six games on the cartridge. The rifle style gun that comes with it can be difficult for smaller kids to handle. Also, if you don't adjust your aim as the instructions tell you, you will not get pinpoint accuracy. If you follow the instructions, you will have a guaranteed great time blasting everything that enters your path. Its a game of skill. You can't just shoot, you have to aim. There are moles, rockets, space ships and more. There's even a tetris style game where you have to shoot the blocks to flip them. It's extremely satisfying to watch the things that you shoot, blow up!!! The key to this game, is adjusting your aim (looking through the sight), otherwise, you won't hit the spot your aiming at.
