Amazon.com Review

Take the power and flexibility of a dedicated computer gaming system and combine it with the easy-to-use, instant-on format of a high-end console system and what do you get? Well, if you also add in DVD playback ability and broadband Internet connectivity, you get Xbox.

The advanced components inside Xbox make it the undisputed powerhouse among current game consoles. A 733 MHz Intel main processor and 233 MHz graphics processor from industry leader nVidia deliver photorealistic graphics in real time. A cavernous hard drive stores saved games and characters, making flimsy memory sticks obsolete. The built-in Ethernet port enables super-fast multiplayer online gaming over a broadband Internet connection. Four game controller ports allow you and three of your buddies to play at the same time, or you can use them for other peripherals such as gamepads, light guns, and who knows what else?

But Xbox has more going for it than fancy innards. The Xbox's Windows-based operating system is a breeze to program on, earning it grateful accolades from Electronic Arts, Infogrames, THQ, and other game producers. The less time developers spend struggling with the operating system means the more time they spend tweaking gameplay, which ultimately results in better games. And games are what it's all about.

Well, games and the fun of owning a green-glowing game console that looks like it came from Darth Vader's living room.--Mike Fehlauer

2-0 out of 5 stars 4 year cycle.
Microsft lost 4 billion dollars on the XBOX project and is apparently ending support. Nvidia already stopped shipments of their chip for XBOX production.A 3 1/2 year cycle is pretty short for a system and are abandoning everyone who purchased/purchases a XBOX.
Will the XBOX 360have a 3 year cycle when the Playstaion 3 embarasses it.
Hope not.We might see the XBOX 420 in 3 more years. Save your money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Definetely worth the money
Finally ... I got myself a gaming system ... something in life that is just for my pleasure ... nothing else ... don't even have to expect good results, ROI etc.

After reading a few reviews etc. on various websites I could narrow down my decision to XBox and PS2. It was a pretty tough to bring it down to the final one though. Both had good reviews and both were priced at the same range. PS2 had a wider range of games but XBox has an internal harddrive, PS2 had a slimer console but XBox had better graphics and so the list went on.

Finally I went with the XBox since I am the kind who likes to save a review games, scores etc. and buying a memory stick every now and then would've been expensive in my case.

I am a happy customer. At $150 its a great buy.

4-0 out of 5 stars Im being honest here. no offense
X-box is a good system only for 2 reasons, Reason 1: Halo 1 and Halo 2 these games are goooood! Reason 2: The power of this system and the beautiful graphics that it has. but i gave it 4 stars because the system is huge and heavy. omg just Try to bring this system to your friend's house or on vacation your in for some serious weight lifting. Its sort of stupid that they have to make the system so heavy and they have soo much multiplayer games. And look at the controller, it was designed for king kong to use, or maybe a dinosaur, maybe even a octopus, or a cyclops. ps2 may be a weak system with choppy graphics, But it has much more exclusive games, Metal gear solid 3, devil may cry, god of war, the getaway, dragon ball z budaki, jet li rise to honor, killzone The Smackdown series etc. When it comes to game companies im sorry to say this but Sony is the king of them all. Sony will always be king. They are taking x-box and nintendo to school. Sony has already made there portable system PSP(Playstation portable). Dont waste your money on x-box and especially gamecube. Gamecube has a small library of games. i Bought the gamecube for resident evil thas all that is untill i found out that resident evil 4 will be out for ps2. If you want to bash the ps2 because it breaks alot then get the new redefined ps2 which i got. Its more capable and mine hasnt broke on me or anything. I will never waste my time with xbox, i bought the gamecube and it wasnt what i was looking for. So i made the right choice and traded my gamecube in and bought the better system Playstation 2.

1-0 out of 5 stars Beware
Microsoft is ending the production of the XBOX in a few months. They also might stop making games for the system all together.
It would be unwise to purchase oneunless you want a ssytem with no new games.
On the other hand the PS@ and Gamecube will have a wide range of new games coming this fall.

3-0 out of 5 stars great system...at the end of it's life cycle, anyway
i really only have one major problem with the ol' 'Box.it's game library is atrocious.the systme unfortunately lacks the variety i've come to expect from my game systems.the only headway into resolution of this problem has been within the last year, starting with Ninja Gaiden.i'm sorry, i just don't like FPS or PC style games.up until recently, Halo was all the XBox had going for it, and again, i don't like FPS.there is nary a Japanese game on the sucker, save for the occasional gem from Tecmo, and Microsoft refuses to support or market it's first party titles in any decent fashion, oftem forcing the development studios to seek out another publisher when they are dropped by the big M for no reason.

Microsoft, in my opinion, is a primary contributer to the demise of one of the most creative dev houses in the world:Oddworld Inhabitants.

all is not dark in the world of the big M, however.while i love my PS2 (and it's massive and diverse library), the XBox is clearly superior in visual power.this is about as important as you make it, depending on how hung up you are on graphics.i still adore 2-D sprites, so obviously, graphics, while important, are not #1 on my priorities list.they have also managed to snag a few exclusive titles the whet my interest, such as KOTOR 1 and 2, Fable, and Oddworld: Strangers Wrath by the afformetioned Inhabitants, which did not sell to it's potential due to shoddy marketing by EA (the other big evil), who were pissed because they refused to develop a PS2 version.
also to the XBox's credit, titles that are offered multi-platform are best presented on the Xbox.

the hard drive is certainly a nice addition, and XBox Live beats the hell out of anything Sony has going right now in regards to online gaming.the four controller ports are nice, but i barely have a chance for two-player as it is, so it's not a biggie, either.the redesigned s-controller is definatley an improvement upon the previous canned-ham version Microsoft shipped.interesting bit of trivia:the s-controller is actually the Japanese XBox controller that was designed for smaller Japanese hands.

all in all, i simply find the PS2 a superior game machine.it may not be as powerful, but the proof is in the games, and Sony has it all over the big M in this regard.game variety is Sony's bread and butter, and they have shown unwaivering support for their first party developers like Naughty Dog, Insomniac, Polophony Digital, and David Jaffe's God of War team.Microsoft dropped titles by both Double Fine (Psychonauts) and Oddworld Inhabitants (see above).Sony also has the largest collection of third party exclusive titles.this, too me, explains why the Playstation brand continues to dominate the market.

it's a little sad that Microsoft figured this out a little too late to really do anything about it.here's hoping they don't make the same mistakes with the 360.they really can't afford to go the way of Sega.they don't have any franchises to fall back on.

well, at least they always have Windows

5-0 out of 5 stars Is it faster than the original Xbox?
I have taken an objective look at the performance of my "regular" Xbox and my brother's Xbox Halo Edition and I have to say, "ABSOLUTELY".I don't know what it is about this green box, but there is something going on inside the system.Everything I do on his system is a little bit faster; just enough to say to myself what the heck is going on here.If someone KNOWS why the green machine is a touch faster than regular Xboxes let me know!!!I'm seriously considering getting the Limited Edition BLUE Xbox Halo 2 edition in Canada!

5-0 out of 5 stars A green xbox
The now used/new price is way too expensive.Great system and game though. Please don't spend so much money on a package that can be purchased for a $170.And remember, Xbox 2 may be backwards compatible.

5-0 out of 5 stars comparison
I am writinga comparison with all three systems. Playstation 2 is not great system in contrast with xbox and gamecube. Xbox is bettter than playstation 2 in the controller department. Anyone using the playstation 2 controller is asking for arthritis. Having cheap buttons where triggers are supposed to be the xbox has supreme quality. Having 6 action buttons right at your disposal with your thumb. The analog sticks are much better also. Ps2 sticks feel like a piece a styrofoam carved at shoved in the slot. Talk about cheap. Sony is just in it for the money. Not to mention automatic game saves to the HD and the optional chance to buy a memory card kicks sony's ass in the convinience department. In the library department ps2 may be for you if you likevast choice. But Xbox does have way more quality games than ps2. Quality>Quantity. You will have much more choices in quality games such as KOTOR, Halo 2, Halo, Ninja Gaiden, Mechassault 1&2, Crimson skies, and much much more. In the durability department xbox takes the lead again. It seems as though ps2 is going to fall apart especially when it makes that loud, rattling noise when it is under heavy loading sequences. and anyone says the ps2 is more portable than xbox than they need to get off their lazy ass and go to the gym. Ps2 is not that much smaller than xbox. Actually, Xbox is more portable since it can actually take a good beating, hazards that will probably happen if you drop your ps2. In summary, you probably can tell which is better Xbox>ps2. It's that simple. Really.

In comparison to the gamecube, gamecube blows ps2 away. Perhaps even more if depending on what kind of gamer you are.
Compared the gamecube it fails in almost every department. Gamecube has unique features that make it way better than the playstation. Ex. gamecube has a unique controller much better than ps2. But it is not great for complex game such as splinter cell(the L trigger has four functions)but can be perfect for games such as metroid prime. But the gamecube controller get pretty uncomfortable for those bigger hands. But gamecube has way more quality games then ps2. My perfect example is metroid prime.

In conclusion, you know what to buy. I hope you make the best choice for yourself.

5-0 out of 5 stars Get them while you can!
To all the potental xbox buyers out their this system will not let you down. You get the green xbox and a copy of the original halo. How cool is that. To all of you who havent played halo it is a very addicting game for all age levels. And you might as well go ahead and order a copy of halo2 now that it is avilable because you will want it! Go ahead and buy the limited edition green "halo" xbox. It is one of the most covented thing's that a halo fan or a xbox fan could want. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Microsoft should be proud
Having acquired an Xbox fairly recently (this past Christmas), I decided to give myself a couple of months to become acquainted with the system and it's games before I gave my opinion on it.Looking back, I really wish I had bought one much sooner. While I've enjoyed my PS2 and Gamecube quite a bit, there really is something to be said about Microsoft's entry into the console business. The Xbox is simply a phenomenal piece of hardware, probably because it shares more in common with its PC cousin than it does previous consoles.

On paper, it boasts some interesting specs. After all, at the time of its release, it wasn't too far behind Personal Computers (low end, anyway) in terms of graphics and processing power. But as a long time game player myself, I can tell you that a console is more about the games themselves than hardware. To be completely honest, the Xbox has come a long way since it came upon us in 2001. There was a time when it didn't enjoy the large library of games and support that it does now. Thankfully those days are over, and now you can find quite a few titles that were once reserved for the competitors. I really think the turning point came when EA finally decided it was time to allow online play using the Xbox Live service. If you've ever had the chance to play any of the Xbox's games online, you'd scratch your head and wonder why they didn't do it sooner.

The Xbox Live service is the single best thing to happen to online games in the console realm. Sure it has a subscription fee, but it's a textbook example of the old saying "You get what you pay for." You can go online, and find friends easily. You can send them voice messages, and you can even see what game they are playing (online of course) at any given time.I can honestly tell you that this service blows Sony's free online play out of the water. But enough about online play (even if it's the Xbox's best selling point). We all know that not everyone has the high speed Internet needed to play online games. The Xbox is still plenty worth your while offline as well.

Besides having some pretty heavy hitting titles such as Halo and Knights of the Old Republic (and their subsequent sequels), the Xbox has a built in hard drive and four controller ports right out of the box. What this means to you is that you'll never have to worry about spending money on those gimmicks other consoles force you to buy. Yes, this means you can say goodbye to memory cards for saving your progress, and multi-taps for allowing more than two players to go head to head in sports games.Even better, the hard drive means that you can rip songs from your favorite CD's and use them for custom soundtracks in some of your games. Don't particularly care for the songs on that new game you just bought? There's a good chance that you can use your own custom play-list instead. Now tell me that isn't cool?

So now you may be thinking, just what are the downsides to owning an Xbox? Well for the most part, nothing. The closest thing to a weakness I can think of is that the PS2 does technically have more games at its disposal than the Xbox does. In all honesty, this can be contributed to the PS2's ability to play games from its previous console, the Playstation. The bottom line is I think you'll more than enjoy what the Xbox has to offer. Is it the ultimate of all the consoles? That's really a matter of opinion. It certainly is a respectful entry into the console market, that's for sure.

5-0 out of 5 stars Late Comer to X Box, but highly satisfied
I love the X Box, I just brought one in Novemeber so I could play Halo 2, before I was a PS2 guy and refused to own two systems. Halo 2 made me change my mind. I now prefer the X Box over the PS2. The X Box has great graphics, although they don't compare with recent PC games they shine highly over PS2 ports. I also love the control, Microsoft really did they're research the two trigger buttons are so intuitive expecially for shooting games. The X Box supports 5.1 Dolby Digital Sound although the add ons you have to buy can add up, if you have a Home theater system it is worth it. My favorite thing about the X Box is X Box Live, Microsoft really managed to simplify online gaming and bring it to the masses. Microsoft is going to take over the next generation of systems, they should have won this time.

5-0 out of 5 stars GOOD
The Xbox is the Best out of all of them.sure u have to pay for xbox live but its worth it.NO lag and if any at all it isnt that bad and im using the slowest dsl connection, so anyways get this and its worth it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Product at a Great Price!!
I just received the Xbox Holiday Bundle today and I must say this is a great bargain. While at most sites, this bundle is either out of stock or being sold for 200 dollars plus, I was able to get it for 149.99 from Gamestop via Amazon and it truely is a bargain.Plus talk about fast shipping, ordered it Monday afternoon and it was at my door Wednesday afternoon.Ok now for the Xbox and the games included in this bundle.First of all, just so you know, I own a PS2 and Gaming PC and would consider myself more than a casual gamer.

My first impression of the X-box, as soon as I took it out of the box was, it feels and looks sturdy.I have owned my PS2 for over 3 years now and have never had any problems, so nothing against PS2 there.Well I started playing EA's NCAA Football game first and immediatly noticed the improvment in graphics compared to the PS2.The sound is pretty nice too.The control is going to take some getting used to, but it's not the size that bothered me, just getting used to new button configuration. The fact that I didn't need to buy a memory card was pretty sweet, since the Xbox has a built in hard drive.Plus I am already up and running on xbox live, don't like the fact that I will have to pay to play many of the game online, which I can play for free on the PC, but hey, I'm sure it will be all worth it once I get Halo 2 and it's nice to have the 2 month free trial to try out the service!!

As for the two games, there are some serious issues with the Passing game in NCAA football, even a wide open receiver drops the ball 50% of the time, which is just ridiculous.Top Spin on the other hand is a really great game.I am already addicted to it and I have never played or watched tennis. If you don't own an Xbox, this bundle is a great way to get started.

So while this review is only based on several hours of using the Xbox and the two games, I would definitely recommend others to buy this bundle.

I like this system out of the rest. get a comfortable controller and a good game like halo 1 and your afternoon is set. this is a fast loading system with one disadvantage..... its size. being one of the bigger systems i find that this is the one and only bad thing. but it's amount of fun will make up for it. have fun and enjoy the day.....

4-0 out of 5 stars WOW GREAT CONSOLE.
I don`t have an XBox,but my friend has one and i have played it.its a cool console with good online play, best graphics and good games but the games are most expensive(Xtra £10 for any new game). The controler is hard to use until you get used to it.It is available in 2 colours original Black or special edition Crystal.crystal is best.If you flick over to the PlayStation 2 Reviews,i notice that XBox and GameCube are winning because PS2 has very negative reviews the most weird review was "FlashWires"s review 4/feb/04 he/she says that the PS2 caused a death of a friend and a death of another friends family because of some sorta fire,i don`t believe him much it was probably just a trick to scare people of the PS2.I have a PS2 and a GameCube they are very good consoles but in competition;Graphics 1)XBox 2)GameCube 3)PlayStation 2(vey glitched)
sound 1)PS2 2)XB 3)GameCube
OnlinePlay 1)XB 2)PS2 3)GC
I`m no longer stuck on these 3 consoles cause in 2006 theres gunna be changes y` got PS3,XB-360 and N.Revolution and there gonna rule for another 5 years w/ some new handhold consoles(GameBoys,PSP,NDS).
Overall XBox 1 is a great gaming machine and i`m going to get one sooner or later but think about its sequal coming in 06 with PS3 &R.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best system EVER
This is freakin awesome!I love the xbox!I can just play it for hours and never get bored. The best games are definatley halo, halo 2, and fable. If you get an x box you should get those titles. The graphics are incredible, everthing is just so smooth and crystal clear. If they'd let me give this system more than 5 stars, I would!

1-0 out of 5 stars Waste of money
If you can give me a list of 3 video games that are only in the Xbox and are good I'd buy it. However it seems that whenever I ask this question to a Xbox user they just change the subject.

All the good games that Xbox users can be proud of are already available for the PC, with better graphics, better everything.

So unless you're one of those 9 year old kids that have rich parents that let him do whatever they want and live like in a TV soap opera, skip this product.

Besides most computers already have DVD players. And you can upgrade computers, customize them, make them more powerful than an Xbox.

Skip it. It's a waste of money.

5-0 out of 5 stars xbox vs GameCube and PS2
Xbox

Xbox has the best graphics

Exclusives worth getting are Conker: Live & Reloaded and Kameo Elements of Power. The GTA games have a greater draw distance on Xbox and the once great Rare Ltd. exclusives have moved from Nintendo to Xbox.

GameCube has the second best graphics

Exclusive games worth getting Resident Evil 4, Resident Evil 0 and the Resident Evil remake. Resident Evil 4 is coming to PS2, but it will receive a major downgrade so it would be a good idea to get a gamecube for this one.

PS2

PS2 has the third best graphics

Exclusive games worth getting, Twisted Metal Black featuring great auto-combat and Gran Turismo 4 featuring more cars than any other racing game ever made. ... Read more

This site is the cheapest I have found for this card.<br /> Do not pay for your live service monthly on your credit card.<br /> It's alot cheaper to buy one of these cards every year.

5-0 out of 5 stars Two reasons to get this card
There are only two reasons to get this Xbox Live subscription card. First, as a gift for someone who already has Xbox Live and wants to renew his subscription.Second, the normal yearly fee is $50, so if you can get this card cheaper than that, you'll save money.

This card is not a good way to get Xbox Live if you don't already have it.For that purpose, buy the starter kit (ASIN B000209V8K), which includes a free game, a headset, and a year subscription.Without the headset, Xbox Live is pretty boring.

Hey! You probably know at least one person who plays games on XBox LIVE. And what with the Christmas season coming up, this could be the perfect gift for him or her.

XBox LIVE is an online community of gamers. Friendships are often formed and who can blame them, what with the ability to actually to talk to someone who is playing the same game as you. You're instantly in a community filled with people who like this one game you like, and their are so many games which use LIVE for other things such as free downloads/updates for games. If you have a cable connection and an XBox, you can't afford to not have XBox LIVE. So if you know someone who has XBox LIVE, get them a gift that will last a year. Trust me, they will enjoy it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Xbox Live the Best Internet Gaming Ever!!!
I know, I know. But I have been playing online since the days of text-based MUDDs. Most of you reading this are way too young to even know what a MUDD was, but back in 1982, we were playing them. Yes, I said 1982. I've been playing online games just that long and have seen the evolution of just about every type of online game and environment you can think of. I've played Battle.net, and Heat.net and just about every other online gaming service (free or subscription-based) that there has been to play over the last 20 years. Many of you may not even know what Xcite means, but they were responsible for online gaming on the 16-bit systems (SEGA Genesis and Super Nintendo). I had those too. "So after playing online for nigh 20 years, I had to ask myself what on Earth is Xbox Live (XBL) going to do that is so much more better about it than any other online experience than I have ever had," this is what I was thinking before I signed up, and I was very skeptical and rightfully so. But once I was on and was playing, my tune changed rather quickly. In all the years that I have been playing online, there has simply been no single experience as fun, exciting and solid as the XBL experience (yes, even the PS2 Online experience is inferior to XBL). It is quite safe to say, that they last 20+ years of online gaming have been ultimately leading up to XBL. Microsoft has taken all the best attributes of online gaming and infused them into XBL, while leaving all of the worst attrtributes on the cutting room floor. And check this out, they are constantly improving the experience. While you have a XBL subscription, all upgrades for the service are free of charge. And we get upgrades and improvements every few months. The XBL experience is so good, that many in even the PC gaming communittee prefer XBL over PC online gaming and are clamouring to get XBL on the PC - and later this year, they will finally have it. Then there is all the tons of free stuff that you can get on XBL. I cannot remember just how many new levels and modes and maps and soundtracks of various XBL games that I have downloaded in the last year for absolutely free. And with almost 100 games available to use the service and that number looking to more than double itself by the end of 2004, that's just even more opportunities to downlaod more free stuff to my Xbox harddrive. Inconclusion, XBL really is the best online gaming there has ever been to date. However, you do not have to take my word for it, you can find out for yourself for absolutely free. Most XBL games these days come with a 2-Month Trial Card FREE in the game's box. Just use that to sign-up for a temporary account and you get full access to all XBL services for FREE for two whole months. That's two whole months full access to the best online gaming service ever created. If by then you feel that this is not for you, then you are FREE to cancel the service without further obligation. YOU CANNOT LOSE. Anyway, I play XBL everyday, and I hope to see some of you there soon. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars biggest regret
I heard of the xbox way before it came out, my friend suggested that i should wait for a xbox instead of a ps2 because it was american made. So i waited and when i had enough money i brought a xbox, which cost 300 at that time.I was hoping for great game seclection.A few month later, there were tons and tons of alsome game on the ps2 and not the xbox, even so more for gamecube, so i thought to myself how can this be? If anyone is thinking about buying an xbox, here only one reason to really buy it, is if u like sport games and u have xbox live. Other than that buy a ps2 like i am going today. the good thing bout xbox is it really durable and doesn't break, and in all my 3 years experience it had ever got a disk error on the drive, sure their the bad disk thing, but all u have to do is clean it with alchohol and it work fine.I never really brought anygame for the xbox because most of them suck, one for example is full spectrum warrior(i am a huge military first person shooter fan out there!)and went i rented it i was so dissapointed because it was so boring and repeative.EVen gamecube had better game than xbox, as some of my friend knows i am a huge wrestle fan and when both raw came out on the xbox i was so dissapointed in it replay value and overall, even gamecube wrestling title was second to none.

i am very dissapointed with the quality of all xbox games, and yes even halo 2 suck! Im not saying that u shouldn't get a xbox, but if u do make sure u have a ps2 and gamecube first.
I think the only game that is good right now is espn nfl 2k5 with is totally the best so far.Who know maybe xbox will get better, but one thing is for sure, japanese console are always far superior.

so this is my biggest regret in buying a console, heck i rather have a ps1 game than xbox, that how bad it is.Throught experience i have witness that american games aren't good and still need ALOT of improvement! (alot)

Okay let me ask u guys a few thing, remember when their were game commerical like hot wheels and stuff on tv, they were both for ps2 and gc but not for xbox, those were the time that i thought to myself why did i buy an xbox

I hope this review help you, i know that xbox is newer but it is far less better in anyway beside the system itself

here is my breakdown of the xbox:
system can not break
xbox controller in my opinion is better than ps2
xbox live is the same as ps2 live, i rather have ps2 online cuz i love socom
xbox has 4 port and ps2 only has 2, but i want 2 cuz most ps2 game are single player mission and that what i can only afford
online
well if u get ps2 u can use a dial up instead of dsl or broadband for xbox!
ps2 is a whole lot better games and a whole lot more stuff to add on
here a plus for the xbox, u don't really need a memory card!
and u can play game on it for more than 12 hours and it wouldn't get hot
now if u buy a ps2 u get the smackdown series and gta series, not to mention kingdom heart, and metal gear solid and a whole bunch of top game on ps2 and ps1!

final comment: the bottom line is buy a ps2, u won't regret it, i garantee it, and second buy a gc after u brought a ps2, and only buy a xbox if u have broadband and your parent or if your a guardian that have money for xbox live, becuz it the best.
that it, and this review is from a 16 years old who have experience with the xbox for 3 years now

i hope this help all of u reading this and enjoy your break!

last but not least, the xbox is the worst console of any generation, that right even dreamcast is better.

now do u all know why, because it the first console that is american made, so there always go with japanese console

a true gamer

5-0 out of 5 stars X-box is a great system
First off, I have all three systems - PS2, Gamecube, and X-box. PS2 is a great system with plenty of games, online capability, and nice graphics. Gamecube is good if you have kids. The majority of the games are very simplistic and the graphics aren't that great. I have a few games on that system that I like, such as Animal Crossing. The X-box is the system that my husband and I use the most. I had to post a review after reading another review on here that made me laugh:

"Sure, sure the thing may never need a memory card, sure it has the best processing system and graphics except for the PC, but it lacks Gameplay and variety. There are not any good games being made for Xbox."

Obviously, this person hasn't been out much! X-box has everything that he claims it doesn't. Great gameplay, variety, and great games. My husband and I have different taste in games and we both have ones that we love on x-box.

It's true that a lot of the games are available for the PC too, but I would much rather have it on X-box for many reasons. 1. I have a huge tv hooked up to the X-box, it's much nicer than playing on a little computer screen! 2. I can invite friends over and play multiplayer games. 3. As great as computers are, games are getting so much more demanding on systems(such as graphics cards and memory) that not all games will work on all systems! I am guaranteed that the game will work on the X-box.

All in all, I would have to say that the X-box is my favorite system due to the fact that it has a huge variety of games and the graphics are great.

5-0 out of 5 stars The truth about the x box
I bought myself an x box a little while ago an must say I am very chuffed with it. It does everything i wanted it to do and tons more besides. A load of people seem to only notice its size and weight, but let me tell you now: IT REALLY DOESN'T MATTER. Put it this way, it's as fast as a pc (at the time), but a lot smaller. Besides who really cares about the weight anyway, I mean its not like you should take it for walks is it? Just plug it in and leave it where it is.
The graphics are simply put the BEST around, the DVD player actually works (unlike the ps2, believe me i got one of them aswell) and the sound is awesome. The controller is perfectly fine, if you dont like it get an s-controller. Simple.
The fact that you can rip cd's is a huge bonus. You can create playlists on it and believe me, it stores a lot of music. It is basically great for houseparties aswell as games. The games are good and getting better all the time as more and more are released. Finally, while the ps2 is also a great machine it has one huge problem that the x box doesn't have: it's short life span. The ps2 will only last for about 2-4 years. Firstly it stops playing ps1 and the blue/purple discs, then a short time later it packs up alltogether. Not very good, is it sony?!
oh, and my x box has NEVER crashed.
if you are young: buy a gamecube.
if you are a a bit more mature and want the best system: buy the X-BOX
just don't buy a PS2, at least wait for PS3.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent System, but not without its flaws.
The Xbox is an excellent system for any gamer. The graphics are amazing, the sounds is killer and {most} of the games are excellent. Unfortunately, just like the PS2 and Gamecube, the Xbox is not without its faults.
Good:

Amazingly detailed graphics
Capable of incredible sound effects
Can play CDs and DVDs (not without a remote though)
4 Controller Ports
Good variety of Games
Well Supported by 3rd party developers
Some excellent exclusive games (Halo, Project Gotham 2, Halo 2)
150 dollar price point is 30 dollars less than PS2 (but still 50 dollars more than Gamecube)
Best Online Service (Xbox Live!)

The Bad

System weighs a lot-don't expecting anything you can bring on vacation
System is ugly-basically a big, clunky box
Lack of RPGS (save Knights of the Old Republic)
Lack of quirky (strange Japanese/Anime/just plain weird) games such as Mister Mosquito and Animal Crossing.
Lack of "kiddie" games- Xbox is geared toward the 15+ crowd
EA Sports games are not online compatible (the PS2 versions are though)

Overall the Xbox is an excellent system choice for gamers who love action/shooter/online games. The Xbox excels in these areas;in fact it blows the competition out of the water. But, due to the lack of games in certain genres, I have to knock the score down a star. That being said, if you are looking for a graphics powerhouse that is home to the best online games (Mech Assault, Rainbow Six, Splinter Cell Pandora's Tommorow) and the best action games (Halo, Halo 2, Brute Force, Deus Ex 2), then you should purchase an Xbox as soon as possible.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Graphics, but some problems
The Xbox is a great system. It pumps out top notch graphics and has some killer exclusives. Unfortunately, it is not perfect, just like the other 2 next gen systems out.
Pros:

Amazing Graphics (The Xbox's graphics are much better than either Gamecubes' or Ps2's)
Built in 8 GB Hard Drive
Best online service (Xbox Live)
Halo, Halo 2, Project Gotham Racing 2- some of the best games ever
The Controller S is comfortable
Good third party support

Cons:

The system is massive and weighs around 10-12 pounds
Have to buy a remote for 30 dollars to play DVDs
Basically No Rpgs for the system (Except the excellent Star Wars: Knights of the old republic)
Not many niche games (quirky games a la Pa Rappaa or Mr Mosquito for PS2 are absent on the Xbox)

Overall, the XBox is a graphics and sound powerhouse that has a very bright future. Unfortuantely, its lack of RPGs and niche games force me to knock down the score a star. Still an excellent choice for any gamer ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars the s controller
the s controller is a auesome buy i have three and my big controller is horrible i let my dad use it and i always win but when he uses the s controller he wins .so if u want to buy a controller the s controller is the very one to buy and if u only have two or one buy two or three.

4-0 out of 5 stars Sleek
Although I don't own my own Xbox - I always play someone else's because I already own a PS2, I never-the-less feel obligated to add my thoughts on the matter. The new Xbox controller S is one sleek piece of equipment - FAR superior to that original monstrousity of a controller those idiots at Microsoft initially came up with (it was that super ugly, gigantic, and clunky original controller that turned me off from buying the Xbox when it came out). The new controller S is visually appealing to the eyes. Although the PS2 controller is still slightly more attractive, the controller S is an extremely close second. The controller s is smaller and handier than the original, has easier to use controls, and is VERY comfortable to grip. Just compare the different controllers of Xbox, PS2,and Gamecube by holding them in your hands, and fiddling around with the controls. You will see that the Xbox controller S has the nicest fit of them all on the palms of your hands (the Gamecube is the least comfortable). Ironically the controller S was originally designed for the Xbox release in Japan because the original controller was deemed too big for Japanese players. I really think those folks at Microsoft should plan things a little better before jumping in to the game....

3-0 out of 5 stars Not comfortable after playing Galaga for a while...
I didn't mind this controller at all in the beginning. But after playing Galaga for a while, the thumb gets quite tiring since we have to press the A button quickly for the entire game.I play the same game on GC, it's easier and I get higher scores.I wish there's even a smaller version of the Xbox controller that's designed with women and kids in mind.My conclusion -- do NOT play Galaga type games on Xbox, play it on GC or PS2 :)

3-0 out of 5 stars 50/50

Well, games and the fun of owning a green-glowing game console that looks like it came from Darth Vader's living room. --Mike Fehlauer

The Xbox Holiday Bundle includes the Xbox console, the popular "S" style Microsoft controller, the games Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Tetris Worlds Online, a two-month trial subscription to the Xbox Live service, and all necessary cables to connect your Xbox to your TV. A DVD kit (sold separately) is required to access DVD playback ability. Xbox Live requires a broadband Internet connection and an Ethernet cable to connect your Xbox to your cable or DSL modem (sold separately).

2-0 out of 5 stars RPG geeks should avoid this like the plague
Lately I've noticed an emerging sense of "Xbox elitism" among male gamers. Walk into your local EB Games and inquire innocently about what console you should purchase, and chances are the entire staff will try to push the Xbox on you, regardless of what type of game you enjoy playing. My friend, a former EB employee, tells me of people who've traded in their PS2 for an Xbox on this advice, only to stupidly ask afterward, "So, I can still get Final Fantasy for the Xbox, right?"

I'll warn you here and now: If you're an RPG geek, DO NOT buy an Xbox. It has absolutely nothing to offer in the way of roleplaying games. And no, there isn't a chance we'll see FFXII on the Xbox. Sony might throw Nintendo a bone with Crystal Chronicles, but they'll never share FF with the American devil Microsoft.

The Xbox is a fine system...for my little brother, who worships Halo and any other game where he can 'blow things up real good'. The selection of games isn't very diverse at all--more so than the kid-oriented Gamecube repetoire, but not nearly as much as the PS2. Xbox may be newer and have better graphics, but I'd rather just be able to play the games I like. Also, that controller's as ungainly as all get out. And there's no way I can justify buying an expensive add-on for the right to play DVDs, when the cheaper PS2 requires no such thing.

So, if you stick mostly to RPGs, stick to the PS2. Perhaps someday Xbox will offer more in that area, but I'm not holding my breath.

4-0 out of 5 stars Best Console out there
Recently got the Xbox for christmas, and it has provided hours of fun.I have had the chance to use the gamecube, ps2 also, and easily concluded that it is the best.Just look at the processor speed, the graphics card speed, and you can see that it is superior.Nothing, I mean nothing can compete with xbox live either.Oh sure, you can say, "Ps2 has a built in dvd player, while you have to pay 30$ for an xbox dvd kit"Yet, the xbox has a built in online port while you have to pay 40$ for an adapter for the ps2.Did I mention the xbox had a built in hardrive? You have to buy memory cards for ps2 to save your progress.Ps2 fans can also say "But ps2 has a far larger selection of games"That is true, but, really any good game made for ps2 is also made for xbox.(etc, GTA 3, which the xbox version is better)While the xbox has exclusive titles including HALO!Best game hands down. With soon to come HALO 2, and fable. Not to mention high quality only xbox games like PGR2, and others.Cleary, the xbox is the best buy. ... This is the worst product ever. It lags like hell. Also, my computer and xbox r in different rooms so i had to buy wireless equipment ($150) to play it.

5-0 out of 5 stars BEST ONLINE EXPERIANCE EVER
best online experiance EVER. sony sucks cause no good games, but live is good for many reasons. VOICE chat. dont waste time typing like in lame sony games. BETTER games, and more games. HIGH SPEED internet, less lag. so what, u buy the first year with the box, then u pay 50$ a year after it, its much worth it. u have a friends list and can invite all ur buddies to play games. And with over 1 million subscribers, thers many friends available.

4-0 out of 5 stars $50 for another year
Since it doesn't say how much an aditional year cost, I'll say it here: you gotta pay $50 for an aditional year. Unlike Sony, Microsoft does charge every year, but most magazines say that Microsoft's online gaming is better than Sony's. The quantity of games and quality of Microsoft is better than Sony's.

5-0 out of 5 stars Well Done Xbox Dudes
I was never much of an online gamer.I had played a couple of them, but I would much rather get my friends together and play them face to face. It's much more enjoyable because you actually KNOW the person and because of the whole bragging thing. When I played online PC games, I felt unconnected to everyone else, even when playing team games like CTF.You can chat to dudes on your team via the keyboard, but you can't do that on the fly.If your playing a FPS online and are facing say three opposing team memebers, you can't type in a request for backup without getting shot.XBOX LIVE solves this problem with the headset. It is very rare to see someone online without one.You can easily strategize with your team mates and call for backup quickly if needed.Being able to talk to your team makes you feel more like a team.
The friend feature on XBOX LIVE is awesome. You can tell where your buds are at all times, even if they are on a different game. And it's easy to send a friend request.Just click the players bar and scroll down to the person's name you want to send a request to.Or you can type the person's gamertag in at the XBOX LIVE dashboard. Also, say you're playing Rainbow Six 3 and your team is really getting pounded. You can invite your friend to play with you, even if he's not playing the same game as.This ensures that you can contact and invite your friends at anytime you want.
XBOX LIVE also temendously extends the life of your games.I had stopped playing Return to Castle Wofinstien a year and a half ago, but then I got XBOX LIVE.I was on that game for hours and hours of extra gaming time. There's always good competition, you rarely will be the uber killer. On the flip side, you can learn from the better players if your a newb and start wailing on other gamers in no time.
Overall, XBOX LIVE is a purchase that (I think) pays for itself.I have gotten fewer new games because I'm always getting new experiences out of my old ones.It is a very good investment for anyone looking to further there gaming skills or just looking for a helluva good time.

4-0 out of 5 stars It just GLOWS
although i don't own this yet (don't hurt me) i hav played a cuple of games at my friend's house and it was AWESOME! if u dont hav this yet like me GET IT!It is da BOMB! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars XBOX SYSTEM LINK CABLE
This cable is used ONLY for a hookup between 2 xboxes. This means that if you want to play Halo 4 vs 4 with 2 tvs, a regular ethernet cable will not work.Only the Xbox System Link cable will work between two xboxes directly connected. However, if you hook up four xboxes, you have to use regular RJ-45 ethernet cable with a hub. That is why this cable is necessary.

5-0 out of 5 stars Some of youmight need this...
This cable is absolutely necessary for anyone who bought the "xbox halo edition".Normal crossover cables do not work on this verson of the xbox and unfortunately microsoft found a way to screw you over, but hey, I guess they're being smart..

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money!
before you buy this cable, you'll probably want to know how this price compares with 3rd party cables... in simple terms, this so called "Xbox System Link Cable" by Microsoft, is just a Ethernet CROSSOVER Cable. Why should you spend $15.00 on a short chord like this when you can go to any computer store and get a 50ft cable for the same price? don't waste your money folks! Microsoft is just trying to trick people by just packing a cable into a neat little package! by the way, if you want to use a regular ethernet cable, you'll have to get 1 for ever xbox, plus you need a hub ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Caution, mircorsoft doesn't support....
I recently had an issue with my xbox when games would not load. While talking with technical support, I mentioned I purchased this lense cleaner and tried it and the problem seemed to get worse.

While they were very helpful and eventually replaced my xbox. The customer service rep. stated specifically, microsoft does not recommend nor does it support any lens cleaning equipment for the xbox and strongly recommended we not use it in the future. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars MY DOG CHEWED MY XBOX CABLE
There are days when kicking he dog might be justified and today is it. At least they sell the replacement.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good cable to come with the Xbox
This cable comes with your Xbox when you buy it.Its a good all-around cable. But you can make the graphics much more crisp and clear with a Monster Cable(if you don't mind spending a good amount of money for a cable).Anyway, this cable is a good cable to come with the Xbox.

3-0 out of 5 stars Its not too bad
In my opinion the cord itself is not that bad, but is definitely overpriced. If your going to buy an av cable, treat yourself for an extra (price) and get a top of the line Monster Cable.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst Cable Ever!
This is the cable that comes with every new X-Box. Whoever designed this cable should be beaten with a large bag of Swedish Fish. I guess they failed to realize that some people would like to connect the Video (yellow) cable to their Television and the Audio (Red and White) to their stereo/surround receiver. Too bad the 3 plugs are fused together leaving about 2 inches to spare between each one. With all the time spent designing this console, you would think SOMEONE would realize it's not a good idea to force the plugs together.

I would seriously give this cable a Zero star if it would let me. Now I am forced into buying the (...) advanced A/V pack just so I can hook up the console properly. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

This limited edition Xbox bundle includes two Sega games, Sega GT 2002 and Jet Set Radio Future--a $100 value!
Take the power and flexibility of a dedicated computer-gaming system and combine it with the easy-to-use, instant-on format of a high-end console system and what do you get? Well, if you also add in DVD playback ability and broadband Internet connectivity, you get Xbox.

The advanced components inside Xbox make it the undisputed powerhouse among current game consoles. A 733 MHz Intel main processor and 233 MHz graphics processor from industry leader nVidia deliver photorealistic graphics in real time. A cavernous hard drive stores saved games and characters, making flimsy memory sticks obsolete. The built-in Ethernet port enables super-fast multiplayer online gaming over a broadband Internet connection. Four game-controller ports allow you and three of your buddies to play at the same time, or you can use them for other peripherals such as gamepads, light guns, voice-activated headsets, and who knows what else?

But Xbox has more going for it than fancy innards. The Xbox's Windows-based operating system is a breeze to program on, earning it grateful accolades from Electronic Arts, Infogrames, THQ, and other game producers. The less time developers spend struggling with the operating system means the more time they spend tweaking gameplay, which ultimately results in better games. And games are what it's all about.

Well, games and the fun of owning a green-glowing game console that looks like it came from Darth Vader's living room. --Mike Fehlauer ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars true and false
okay, you people make no sense in speaking about system's.
here's something short and simple

XBOX is like your home computer, it will have it's up's and down's.

For the most common problem with the xbox.
dvd rom:
- games freezes up
- will not start up the system properly
- DVD-rom is filled with dust.
- laser lens is broken
If you want the system to last for few years, try not to play with the system for more than 6hours, considering that some games will actually take 48 to 100 hours to finish and yes they're very addicting.

The system does over heat but mainly from the dvd rom only. Over 10,000 console have had this problem and if you surf the net, you will be able to read about people complaints on the system.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT PRICE & GREAT PACKAGE!!!
This really is a great unit and a great package, even if the included games are not your favorite. The price alone makes it worth it & you can trade or sell the games that you don't like! To Cameron (below) from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; You should only apologize for your pure ignorance (that being said in every sense of the words meaning. Oh...You do own a dictionary, don't you? It's that dusty book that is sitting on your shelf of which you could not even decipher the spelling of the title).Perhaps I should ask if you can even read?! (Let's hope that your chronically unused version of a dictionary has some pictures to look at!) You really should spend more time at gaining an education instead of playing video games (of which I am quite sure you are also inept at).
You suggest that other reviewers attend a 3rd grade English class...but I must ask why you would offer them a higher level of education than yourself? You accuse the other reviews of lowering your IQ "massively" but I must ask, "Is there a massive quantity of numerical amounts below 12?" Hmmm...what can we expect from someone who spells the words 'basically' & 'helpful' wrong (i.e.: 'basicly' & 'helpfull'). Hey, I know....you should try to get bumped up to that 3rd grade English class! (After all, how many more years can you spend in 2nd grade special ed? What's that? A 'massive' amount you say?!).
By the way, had you bothered to look at who wrote the "second review", you might (with your limited mental capacity) have noticed by whom it was written...Nubia Rodriguez from Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico. M...E...X...I...C...O, you moron. Perhaps you might have heard of it? Or maybe even seen it in one of your "picture" books? You see, you asinine little "DOLT" (I am surprised you could spell that one right!) in Mexico they speak MEXICAN! The dear girl was doing her best to relay her feelings in a language which is not native to her. I would really like to see you on a Mexican forum, what with your grand education and all.
FYI...Mexico is located south of the United States of America....which is located south of Canada (with facetiousness I say, "We're all so proud to have geniuses such as you here"). I suggest you attend a 3rd grade geography class as well so that you can figure out which way South is. You see, you seem to possess upside down anatomy....it appears your head is located south of your hips and your ass is north of your shoulders (which would explain your review). That means your "vomit" should be wiped with toilet paper, you half-witted retard! HEY...Edmonton is really cold right now, so it's a good thing that your world contains "ass-hats" to keep your thinking cap warm.
P.S. There is no such thing as "intellectual stability" as you have written. But there is such a thing as having no intellect whatsoever....you are living proof of that.
P.P.S. "Self respect"?! What would you know about that? Try to get some and then learn to have respect for others.
P.P.P.S. Who helped you with the big words like "of" and "to"?

3-0 out of 5 stars A good price. A good console. A poor choice of games.
First I would like to apologize on behalf of the above dolts. With no understanding of basic grammar, punctuation, spelling, and self respect, these tools have the audacity to write reviews that are barely legible let alone helpfull. Nobody has the time or patience to read filth such as the above. You people make me want to vomit. That second review; WOW! Now that made alot of sense. Not once when reading it did I detect a hint of intellectual stability. Maybe you should stop crying about people commenting that the Sony Playstation 2 is better than the X-Box, and go attend a third level english class. Because education is a wonderfull gift, but it's no X-Box(nice use of the late Mountain Dew advert huh?)

This review is not for the X-Box itself as the above ass-hats thought it should be. This review is for the listed X-Box Bundle. As advertised, and i quote; "Xbox Bundle Pak(another spelling mistake!) with 2 Free Games: Sega GT 2002 and JSRF." As you can plainly see this bundle includes two games. The above reviews, which is a stretch saying that, said nothing about these two games. I may be wrong, having lowered my IQ massively by reading that dribble, and they might have mentioned them. So basicly I am just going to say this "Bundle" is not bad when you think about it. Receiving the X-Box console and two games for a fair price is pretty good. Three stars because these are horrid games. Mindless dribble...

5-0 out of 5 stars ps2 is the queen of gaming
xbox is way better than ps2 because it has so much games and the xbox live feuture kiks mager @$$ . xbox also just bought the company rare from gamcube who made tittles like:conkers bfd and perfect dark . they are all coming out for xbox and sony will be out of buisness , xbox has all the power and nothing can stop it. this the best console you will ever buy dont listen to those fools saying ps2 is better cause there just jealous

5-0 out of 5 stars The Master Comparision
Hey, for all you gamers out there, I know it's hard to pick between a PS2 and a Xbox.
I'm not one to judge, so I guess you could
trust me (having spent many hours on both during vacation).

Firstly- PS2
-Has, obviously, many more games than Xbox.
-Many resources online or elseware for repair or questions.
-Basically everyone has one, never buy games again.
-Built in DVD player (this may appeal to many!).
-Good controller (good for people with small hands).
-Good games and plenty of them!

Secondly- Xbox
-Superior specs: about 2.5 times faster processor, 8 gig hd.
-Graphics are superior in some fields (particles, some clarity).
-This one is disputable: controller (it is, yes, bigger, and, yes, bulky, but good for big hands).
-Stability (it just looks like plutonium or something, just kidding).

So basically I summed up the basic gamer's facts. In doing so, I like the Xbox better, but as I said, it is purely a matter of choice. The PS2 excels at game quality and quanity (Squaresoft, if you're reading this, make Final Fantasy games for Xbox!!).Xbox has superior graphics and specifications. If you like simplicity and power, with plenty of variety and to-die-for quality games, the PS2 could help you.If you like die-hard ability, and some pretty good games, the Xbox might fit you.
After all, it is only a game . . .
