Product Description

Players can live their fantasies of fame and fortune as they pursue the dream of being a Rock Star, Movie Star, or a Supermodel, live the lifestyle of a celebrity, and even mingle with the rich and famous. In order to gain popularity, characters must sign with an agent and then move to Studio Town, a new fully customizable location which houses television and movie lots, recording studios, fashion outlets, and spas. Players follow their Sims to work to schmooze and name-drop their way to superstardom. Popularity is measured with the Fame Score for each character in the game. If the player achieves a high Fame Score, they will be able to enjoy a more comfortable life than ever before with luxury services and objects including satellite dishes, skydiving simulators, art and furniture collections, steam baths, mud treatments, massages, and even an oxygen bar. Players are able to hire staff including a butler, domestic staff, a sushi chef, and a masseuse. Of course, being a celebrity has a downside too. While working hard to increase fame and popularity and perhaps even win a coveted Simmy award, celebrities will gather the attention of obsessed fans, groupies and the paparazzi.

5-0 out of 5 stars A really cool expansion pack!!!
I got this expansion pack for Christmas and so far it has given me now problems at all! I love this expansion pack and visiting studio town is awsome!!! I would recomend this game to any sims fan! I liked this one so much i am going to buy the sims unleashed next. This is a great game and i hope you enjoy it.

2-0 out of 5 stars not this one
I agree with the previous reviews. When it works it's fun but getting it to work is hard! My game only works with just the original houses, objects and sims. Any downloaded stuff and the fame career track shuts down. So I have one neighborhood with fame track and the rest where you can't only visit. Don't buy this one. Stay with Vacation and Unleashed - they aren't nearly so much trouble.

3-0 out of 5 stars Fun, as long as you don't go to the Studio Town
I purchased this game about two weeks ago.I was having a lot of fun with it until the game started throwing me to the desktop ( just as another person mentioned in their review).I continue to play, but I do not go to studio town anymore, which does eliminate a lot of the fun.I would like to be able to play in the Studio Town, so if anyone has a solution to this problem, please email me asap at : Liz@Hallmanstudio.com

1-0 out of 5 stars Superstar = Betastar
Was this a beta release we had to PAY for as Mac people? Studio town goes crash, crash, crash even without any objects or skins installed from 3rd party download sites. I am on a Powerbook G4 1.25 ghz with 512 MB ram and an 80 gig hard drive so Iclearly I have enough computer resources for the game. However, whenever I try to use many of the fame objects I crash which makes it frustating to nearly impossible to raise star status. Aspyr needs to do some major big-time updates for this expansion pack to work properly because it is a big let-down at this time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If they would fix the problems it would be a fun game. Meanwhile, I am sorely disappointed with this expansion pack as a result. I cannot recommend this piece of software until Aspyr releases updates to fix some of the problems so that it is at least playable! Therefore, I have to give this expansion pack a poor rating for fun because it is no fun to have to restart, restart, restart superstar just to crash, crash and crash again.

3-0 out of 5 stars Fun for a while
When I got this game I played it for a while but now I'm too sick of it. I think this is another one of Aspyrs attempts to make money off of yet another Expansion Pack.

This game is similar to Vacation. Its like; "Cool, Superstars, now what?"

So... You may choose whether or not you want to be influenced by me. If you want it, buy it! But now you've been warned. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

SimCity 3000 is back, and it's bigger than ever! Maxis pulled out all the stops for this new version of the bestselling game, adding enough new customized graphics to re-create cities from around the world. The new European and Asian building sets serve up hundreds of new buildings that match the architecture of these diverse environments. From the Great Wall to the Berlin Wall, it's in there. Of course, you can still mix and match--freedom to run a city as you choose has always been the name of this game.

No addition to the SimCity family would be complete without some new methods for destroying your creations, and SimCity 3000 Unlimited has four more devastating disasters than the old version. You can re-create the movie Armageddon by unleashing large chunks of flaming space debris, smite your populace with a buzzing swarm of locusts, destroy seaports and coastal developments with a whirlpool, or uncork some toxic clouds.

The Building Architect, formerly available as a free download, is now packed on the CD-ROM. This 3-D architectural program lets users create the buildings of their dreams, from dilapidated outhouses to towering skyscrapers to works of modern art that are intended for pure decoration. Don't worry if you don't feel like using this powerful tool to create things yourself--the game comes with dozens of new ways to make your cities unique, and you can always head to the SimCity Exchange to download imaginative add-ons created by other users. The infinite expandability and infinite replayability of this game should keep would-be mayors completely occupied until they move to the suburbs of The Sims. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Addictive
I find this game very addictive, and considerably better than 2000. I really like the News Ticker, which gives you great advice on how to run your city. It does take up a lot of memory, though, so it's a good thing my computer has so much. I've heard that it tends to destroy your computer, so if you don't want that to happen, here's my advice: Don't take out the CD until the program is done being exited, don't install it if your computer can't handle it, and when you do take out the CD, be sure to press Ctrl, alt, and Delete and close all tasks that sound anything like "SimCity."

My only complaints are this: it makes your computer run slowly, and when locusts hit your town, the sound effects don't ever go away.

Happy playing!

3-0 out of 5 stars Great game in its day; rather old now.
This was a great game back in its day. However, it is old and dated now. It was a vast improvement over SimCity 2000 and the original SimCity, offering larger cities and maps and improved graphics and other details.

For all the reviewers who are being so negative, look at the system requirements. This game was designed for Windows 95 and 98, not 2000 or XP. Most games like that will not run properly under 2000 or XP (if at all). For those of you with 2000 or XP, I recommend SimCity 4 (Rush Hour or Deluxe Edition) instead.

Technology marches on, and it is critical to verify that your system meets the requirements of the software programs (and understanding that old programs may no longer work on newer PCs and operating systems).

2-0 out of 5 stars 4 stars for win 98, 0 for others
Like other reviewers, I've had problems with this game on both Win 2k and Windows XP. On 2k, the game installs and loads, but stalls on the first screen. On XP, the game installs but does not load.
I originally bought this in China (legally) and thought that this may be the reason. I used to play it on a Windows 98 machine until that machine crashed, and I had to upgrade to 2k, and have not played it since.
I also contacted EA Tech Support who insisted that this game is/was designed for Windows 98. They suggested I run the compatibility wizard but this was a failure.
Why they're still selling this game escapes me. Maybe they've corrected things on later versions though.
If you can get it to run, this really is a fun game. There are plenty of improvements from Sim City 2000 that I enjoyed, especially the more logical traffic and crime patterns, and the huge increase in map size.
All in all though, don't buy this.

5-0 out of 5 stars simy 3000
this game is a city.you build roads etc.How is it that no one likes this game anymore?duh!the next one.It is sad that this game is not enough for people anymore.it should be.

1-0 out of 5 stars Computer Problems
Do not buy this game. I was really, really excited when I bought it, but when my dad and I tried to install it, it didn't work. It just, instead, sort-of-ruined our computer. That made me and my sister not able to buy any more Sims games, which really stinks. Do not buy this computer-breaking game! I'm hoping that this reveiw will save your computer from Sim City 3000 Unlimited's horrible software (when I say horrible software, I mean horrible software). ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

SimCity Classic: The original city simulator. A true classic in computer entertainment, SimCity dares you to design and build the city of your dreams. SimCity took the computer world by storm (well, by earthquake anyway), stretched the bounds of entertainment software, and tore down the wall between fun and learning. With its simple interface and the ability to run on almost any computer, SimCity Classic is the best introduction to both simulation games and city planning on this or any other planet.

SimTower: The vertical empire. Start by building a small office complex: a lobby, a few offices, and a café. Expand by adding more floors, more offices, and elevators. Then diversify to hotel rooms, shops, theaters, restaurants, condos, and more as you build your way to the top. Success in SimTower requires design talent, management skills, business acumen, and the ability to keep your customers happy. Be on the lookout for fires, insect infestations, terrorists, and--you'll find out soon enough.

Streets of SimCity: It's your city to cruise through or bruise through. Check out one of over 50 built-in cities, or take on opponents in an urban free-for-all while skidding, bootlegging, and blasting away. Speed through a sprawling metropolis or tackle one of Streets's rim-rattling missions. On the Streets of SimCity, you set the road rules. Combat up to seven other players in network mode over LAN, Internet, or modem.

SimCopter: Fly missions in the metropolis. Attention SimCopter pilot: you're cleared for a rooftop landing, where the local temperature is a balmy 678. That's because there's a five-alarm fire in progress, not to mention rampant riots and SimCitizens running for their SimLives. So soar through 30 built-in cities in hyper-realistic 3-D and perform death-defying missions. Complete your heroics and receive your rewards: a snazzier copter, a tougher mission, and more near-death experiences.

SimIsle: Missions in the rain forest. OK, so you're the king of the forest--make that rain forest. Now what are you going to do? You'd better decide fast because there are miners, poachers, petrochemical companies, endangered species, tourists, polluters, ecologists, natural disasters, and even UFOs, all vying for your attention--and for your resources. With teams of agents at your command, you'll embark on missions to determine the fate of a series of island rain forests.

SimSafari: Create and explore your own African safari park and camp. SimSafari brings Africa to you! Imagine yourself in rugged bush country, peering through binoculars at vast herds of elephants, zebras, and lions. Choose from exotic plants and wildlife to create your own safari park. Team with a neighboring village and build a flourishing safari camp. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Pack, but SimIsle sux
Okay, first warning: like other people said, these games were made from 1989-1997, so some of them are REALLY old. If you want moderately modern games for the price, I reccomend the SimMania 2 pack. Anyway, my uncle bought this as a gift for me 3 yrs. ago. I'll rate the games individually:

- SimCity Classic (1989, Maxis)
Yep, folks, it's the first SimCity ever. While it certainly was a great game for it's time (it must've been good then if Maxis got daily calls from the CIA), it is preceded by the sequels (Sim City 3000 and 4), with even more options, so if you're planning on buying the entire set just for this, don't.
If you want a taste of the game right now, you can check out SimCity's website at www.simcity.com because they have an online version of it on their website. Only problem: you have to have a username.

- SimTower (1994, Maxis/Yoot Saito)
SimTower, as the name describes, allows you to build your own 100-story tower with condos, restaraunts, offices, shops, all that good stuff. Even though I haven't played it in a long time (too much time playing Sims) it's pretty fun. I will warn you about this: it is a bit hard to get past 3 stars, because the people in the suite will never like you. Good for it's time, and I'd really like a SimTower 2.

- Streets of SimCity (1997, Maxis)
Like some people said, this really isn't a Sim game. Though you can customize your own cities with the help of the SimCity 2000 Urban Renewal Kit, and make the gameplay feel a lot like the U-Drive-It missions from SimCity 4. Though nevertheless, it's a good game when you really aren't focusing on a game and you're just looking through your CD collection.

- SimCopter (1996, Maxis)
I have a feeling this is an updated version of Raid on Bungling Bay (NES), Will Wright's first game before creating SimCity. I've barely played this game, though I personally think it's sorta hard to control your helicopter.

- SimIsle (1995, Maxis)
Most disposable game: ever. In SimIsle, I don't get the very concept of what you're supposed to do. I "build" something, and hire architects and construction workers, and nothing happens...nothing. Recommended only if you're on a quest for every Sim game ever made.

- SimSafari (1998, EA/Maxis)
SimSafari is a nice novelty to pass the time. I personally remember renting SimSafari from the video store when I was little. Oh, how much fun I had... though anyway, being the sequel to SimPark (the game with the annoying frog, thank god for the Rizzo Off option) it is set in the African Savannah plains. Your objective is to attract people to your safari camp and get 5 stars, and meanwhile help the village get essentials like a granary, a schoolhouse, etc. via hiring the villagers. Though it certainly isn't the best game in the world, it is pretty fun if you're trying to pass the time.

That is my review.

1-0 out of 5 stars Keep Sim Copter & trash the rest
Sim City- eh, an ok game,, pretty boring though, same thing happens every time.. you build your city, citizens demand that taxes should be lowered, a big fire, etc... zzz....

Sim Tower- this game is KINDA fun but again, just kind of monotnous. This is kind of the reason why I don't like a lot of "Sim" games

Sim Isle- zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...........

Sim Safari: a boring, stupid, corny, fruity, kiddie game

Streets of Sim City- zzzz,, I get bored with racing games very quickly

Sim Copter- Now THIS game is FUN!!!!! Look for my seperate review on this first.

Bottom line: dont waste the $, just buy Sim Copter seperate- it's the only fun Sim game (with the slight exception of Sim City 2000, and Sim Tower is midly allright)

3-0 out of 5 stars Cheap Fun
Retro gamming is not for everyone. I like to play old games, well, because I just have a problem with nostalgia. If you your not worried about graphics and you want to explore the early years of the "SIMS" universe, then it would not hurt to drop a couple of bucks for this pack of games.

Be warned, I could not get all of the games to run on my system, which is still 6 months away from not being modern anymore. But since the price was reasonable I still felt it was worth the three games I was able to run.

The original Sim City is just stupid fun. It's so easy to build a quick city and it's still easy to fail. This is a no frills, time killing game.

Sim Copter was by far my favorite. Talk about a game that had so much potential, but it still turned out to be fun to play. Maxis should have gone out of house on this one, like to MICROPROSE (while they lasted). The people inhabiting the cities are like the original "Sims" and funny to hear where I think the simesse language came from considering what's it's evolved to today.

Sim Tower was a dirty little pleasure. Who thought that building and office tower with apartments, restaurants, movie theaters, etc. could be soo much fun?!

Sim Island, just throw it away when you open the box.

Like I said, the game only costs a few bucks so why not give it a try. Worst case is you loose a few dollars from what you paid when you sell to the pawn shop.

4-0 out of 5 stars A review of the games in Sim Mania
Sim Mania is an excellent game pack from the creators of the original Sim City. This pack includes six fantastic simulation games from Maxis and Electronic Arts incorporated.Games include the original Sim City, Sim Tower, Sim Isle, Sim Safari, Sim Copter, and Streets Of Sim City. Most of the games in this pack are simple to figure out but Sim Isle takes a little more time and effort. The original Sim City is the beginning of the Maxis Sim game series. In Sim Tower, you are a building owner and a construction worker to create the building. You have the choice of making it an office building, hotel suite, condo complex, and a restaraunt facility. In Sim Isle, you are in charge of creating an island and hiring people to maintain the island. In Sim Safari, you are in charge of creating a Safari park in Africa. You get to place the animals that you desire in the park and designing the camp site. This game is especially good for those who enjoy animals and the wildlife.Sim Copter is an exciting game where you are the pilot of a rescue helicopter. You are responsible for clearing traffic jams, fighting fires, reporting crimes, transporting people from one area of the town to another, rescuing people from rooftops and turned over boats, and getting injured people to the hospital.Streets of Sim City is a great game for those who enjoy high speed auto games as well as a little bit of shoot'em up and bang'em up action. If you do decide to purchase this product, you will have hours of computer entertainment.

3-0 out of 5 stars Some of the games didn't work.... Disappointing
Sim Safari and The Streets Of Sim City didn't work on my computer much like i_love_ritchie_forever... I feel your pain!
Anyway, the games that do work are cool.

Sim City is the classic, very first version of the now famous Sim City. The graphics are terrible... but the game itself is pretty cool. It has cool scenarios and I like playing around with the options on the menus.

Sim Isle is alright... I suppose. It's pretty boring, I don't know why some people think it's brilliant. I played it, but I didn't really understand it.

Sim Copter is cool. I love flying the helicopter around and crashing into things. I also love using the megaphone. I'll play it again.

I have played Streets of Simcity. It's pretty boring. You just drive around Simcity and blow yourself up.

My favourite game was Sim Tower. I LOVE IT! I love building the tower and renaming all the people and the shops. I like the events and the cool sounds

This gets 3 stars because of Sim Tower. If Sim Tower wasn't on it, it would get only 2 stars. Considering some of the games didn't work on my computer, I probably have a right to be disappointed. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
When I first saw this game I was excited because I loved playing SimCity 2000 on the Sega Saturn.Unfortunately, instead of just downsizing and porting the game to the Gameboy Advance, they added stuff from the newer SimCity games. The controls aren't that good and the manual tells you nothing - which is that way for pretty much every EA game so no surprise there. It still is mildly entertaining for about a half hour or forty-five minutes at a time.If you were hoping for this game being like the older SimCity 2000 games on the Saturn or the Playstation, you will be somewhat disappointed with this game.

1-0 out of 5 stars I Expected ALOT MORE
This game sucks I Havent even bought this game but my cousin did and when he came over I tried it, Its THE crappiest game ever. When ever you have a fire in your city you can only put a limited amount of firefighters on the scene(about 10)and when an alien attacks your town (how stupid is that!) You can only put about 8 firefighters and cops are limited to!+ You start with about 15000 (not alot)

3-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good
Hard, and sometimes frustrating, but still kind of fun. PC versions are much better, like Sim City 4 Deluxe. This is for only select people who like this kind of game. Features aren't great and it has confusing and hard controls. The idea is good but it could be better.
By the way, SimCity 4 Deluxe is one of the best PC games ever.

2-0 out of 5 stars STICK WITH THE COMPUTER!
Ok this one was ok but it takes along time to scroll and where have the cars gone? Very tedious disasters such as the earthquake, screen shakes a little and that's it! ANd no highways or signs, and when you build things it gets this stupid "Loding" screen and what the heck where they trying to tell with the bumble bee? Also there is not much fun in it and the menu music sucks. Take a PC or Mac version of this, they are much better.

3-0 out of 5 stars okay
it kinda glitches during disastors and while saving which can be very annoying. It can get very annoying because it takes so long to move places.the pc version is much much better. If you really need to play this game while on the go buy it but if you have a computer buy the pc version.I dont think they have the big buildings that hold thousands of people it got boring before i could find out.... I GUESS WHAT I AM TRYING TO SAY IS I DONT LIKE IT.YOU MIGHT BUT I DOUBT IT. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great!
It's great being able to have more control over what your sims do for a living, how many friends they have, etc.

4-0 out of 5 stars Adds new interest to Sims game
I tried the free online version of this, and it crashed my game, but the paid-for "pro" version works fine for me.You can create new career tracks, setting job requirements, salary, hours, and so forth.I've made some "real" jobs, which made the game interesting again after I'd played it to death.I've also made a Gambler track where they only work an hour a day but bring home lots of money, for when I want my characters to concentrate on training the dog or forming social relationships.More fun than "rosebud," and characters get the status of having a job.

1-0 out of 5 stars Beware, It'll Crash Your Game!
Should've known better. If this program were any good, wouldn't Maxis itself be making even more money out of it?

Sure, it's a great idea, in fact, so good I--I who am usually a better consumer--ordered it right away without even reading the reviews.

The creating a career part works fine, but none of the other features seem to work. You can't test your career if you have Unleashed or above. If you can actually initialize your game, you might find the requirements you set for each job are all mixed up. And apparently every time you get a new expansion pack (which is, what? Every day now?), you have to restore the defaults and uninstall if you expect it to work (that's a hoot).

But the worst effect is, of course, the fact that now my game crashes during loading and dumps me back to the desktop, even after going to the scanty promo page Abacus calls home and downloading the Unleashed patch. If you're an avid Sims player, you'll certainly not envy my next task now: wading through Maxis's own nightmare help system, and inevitably trying several user suggestions before finally just winding up uninstalling this stupid program and losing all the joy I had in creating my stupid little career.

Oh, and read through the other reviews--apparently this program is to be had for free if you're good at searching. Not that getting it free is a good idea, it just would have hurt less than paying all this money, waiting for it to arrive, and then this hassle.

Beware! Beware!

1-0 out of 5 stars WARNING: this program may crash your Sims game!
I picked this program up, hoping it would show me more than its free counterpart (available online) did.It failed to meet my expectations.

Though a nice concept, the execution of this idea left much to be desired.Editing and creating new careers proved to be not only difficult, but downright annoying, with this program's not-entirely-easy-to-use interface.

The worst part is this:after loading these new careers I'd made into the game, my installation of the SIMS crashed time and time again. This managed to bug the game in a nasty way.

I encourage you to spend your money on the next Sims expension pack, not on this product.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not a very good idea - the earlier one was better
May I point out that I have an earlier edition of Career Creator, (version 3) that does exactly the same things?

It modifies anything the Pro version can, AND I got it FREE, that's not a free trial, from a site, which I cannot include, I found through a search engine. With the Pro edition, you will probably be charged more for the fact that it is user-friendly. Version 3 comes complete with a full tutorial, and you can get editing within minutes, all still free.

All in all, this may not be the best use of one's time, money and anticipation of it arriving, when downloading the 950kb WinZip file is a lot quicker and free. ... Read more

this game is boring and all you do is build very boring buildings with no detail...you take 3 hours to build a city that is not even detail enough to see people or cars or anything going on!...

5-0 out of 5 stars Simulated City - Just Like the Computer Version!
Rated "E" for "Everyone" - you are the governor, you add zones for industry, commercial & residential; manage the city's budget; add parks & recreation; do landscaping, etc. Try to get people to move in and make your city grow.Disasters (such as fires, flooding & crashes) can be turned "on" or "off" - I recommend keeping the disasters option turned "off" because the disasters seem to occur overly frequently otherwise (this feature could be improved.)There are also various city scenarios to choose from in which certain pre-programmed situations or disasters occur and you have a certain amount of time to reach a given goal (population number, budget, etc.) - to test your skills.Very fun & entertaining; sucks away a lot of time, which can be either good or bad! I've also actually learned some stuff about cities and budgeting from this game. For example, if you take out too many bonds at a time, it's extremely difficult to get your city's population to grow fast enough to pay the interest, let alone make any profit.(Very similar to charging on credit cards...)At first I thought it would be nice to have a city with only parks and recreational and residential areas. However, I quickly learned that industry and commercial areas are needed near any residential areas in order to provide jobs and shops for potential residents before any people will move in.The options and controls take a little getting used to at the beginning, but once you've figured those out, SimCity 2000 becomes highly addictive!

5-0 out of 5 stars Sim City Funsville 2000
I have not tried it yet, but I know it's gona be great!

"It's about nothing." --George Costanza, Seinfeld

Rarely has a game had so much hype: the cover of a national newsweekly, articles in every newspaper from L.A. to New York, comments that The Sims Online--or TSO for short--will save PC games from console-game encroachment. The Sims earned such attention because the concept was brilliant. The Sims was less a game and more a fun software toy, with no way to win. The Sims Online follows the same formula. Unlike other online games, TSO was specifically designed to not have traditional rewards such as gold, power, or magic items. There are no levels to attain, or princesses to rescue. Instead, players take joy in little victories--maybe your Sim cooperates with others, and all four of you manage to bake a pizza without burning it and then sell it. Or maybe you throw a party, and all the cool kids show up and have a good time. The core reward for playing the game is nothing... nothing more or less than the joy of playing.

Unlike the original Sims, where you created a number of Sims and controlled them all as a god, in TSO you create and control only one Sim at a time. This is a significant change, as you can't direct one Sim to perform a time-consuming task and then switch to another Sim until the task is complete. Instead, if you want your Sim to do anything in the game, you have to watch him do it in tedious real time (the fast-forward button, so vital in the original Sims, is gone). For example: when your Sim is sleeping, you have to sit and watch him sleep for the five minutes it takes him to refresh. This real-time aspect is excruciating. The game designers probably thought that a group of ten people, while watching their Sims work out in an exercise room together, would alleviate the boredom of watching Sims pump virtual iron by striking up a conversation (the chat aspect gets a lot of comment from TSO designer Will Wright). The problem is that unlike a chat room, where a topic or passion is already shared by everyone in the room, the only thing a player has in common with other folks in TSO is that everyone is watching their Sims power up. Such basic commonality doesn't spark quality conversation. The best you can hope for is some idiot inevitably commenting "nice grunt" or making some other silly sexual innuendo (often with *%$^@*# fake words generated by the much-needed obscenity filter).

If you're willing to put in the time, there's still the issue of paying month-by-month to access your Sim. For this reason, word of mouth, which caused The Sims to rocket from obscurity to the Best-Selling PC Game of All Time, is working against TSO. Casual game players loudly criticize the idea of paying for both a game and a game service, despite the fact that many of these same players are comfortable shelling out hundreds of dollars for cable, magazines, TiVo, and other monthly subscription-based entertainment services. The overall trend toward pay-per-month-of-play service is generally accepted by the hardcore gamers who play dynamic online adventure games like EverQuest, where gamers can see their monthly tribute at work in the form of fancy new spells and labyrinths. But TSO is a quietly suburban diversion for mostly casual gamers, filled with objects that are mundane by design. In TSO, you putter, you work out, you chat with others in the real world via your avatars. To put it another way: you live a slightly zanier version of everyday life, and frankly, that costs a lot already.

TSO still has the core elements that made the first game a classic: obsession with the minutiae of daily life, amusing content from the game designers, and the mind-bending thing that happens when you've been playing too long--that the real world starts to look exactly like The Sims. (Couch shopping caused that surreal "Is it Sims, or is it real?" experience for a friend.) TSO may still prove to be the Goliath the media predicted it would be thanks to the nature of ever-changing online games. Ironically, the monthly fees that bother so many new TSO players will pay for the improvements those same players crave. For example, EA plans to release new functionality that will allow players to design clothes and objects (a big hit with players of the original Sims).

TSO is fluid, and the game reviewed as it is at launch may be very different from TSO in a year, when the designers are able to respond to player requests. Even until that time, there are good things about this game. When your character is "greened up," dressed in disco finery and looking to hit it lucky with the dice, TSO can be a blast. But the tidal wave of hype may have done more harm than good for a game that has a simple, Seinfeldish heart. --Jennifer Buckendorff

Pros:

  • Gameplay similar to The Sims
  • Wide variety of social interactions, including a deep menu of dance moves
  • Persistent online world lets you share the Sims experience with others

Cons:

  • Lack of fast-forward feature is a drag
  • At launch, too few in-game money-making opportunities
  • At launch, game world seems empty--there's not enough to do
  • Players of The Sims, used to easy money through cheat codes, may balk at having to actually work for in-game cash

Ok I played it during the summer and might I say its the worse expiernence ever.I do have to say this game "HAS POTENTAL"The game designers can make it work. They just need to get off their lazy ass and create something desent. Short and simple well wait another year to probally go back

4-0 out of 5 stars Sims Online is really fun...
I was pleasantly suprised when I played this game, normally I am more of a RPG guy, but this ame is crazy.A lot more creative than I was expecting.I loved it...getting it for the kids as an x-mas gift...

4-0 out of 5 stars Making Magic vanising items
Has anyone have the same problem as me?After installing Making Magic, my iguanas and love birds dissapeared. I have also lost the ability to go to the comunity lots. Please e-mail me if there is a solution

4-0 out of 5 stars It's much improved now
Many many changes have been made since the inital release. This should've been the version that was initially rolled out.More changes to come!

1-0 out of 5 stars Mindless Chatroom with a few game elements thrown in!
TSO was and still is HUGE disappointment. Its merely achatroom with a Sims theme and ITS NOT WORTH the cost. I recently cancelled after foolishly paying for months of what is essentially a giant Sim Chatroom with some game elements thrown
to give the casual player the false assumption that they are playing an actual game when in fact they're only participating in an interactive chatroom.

Why can't Electronic Arts spend more time on making a really good game or two, rather than making a below average to horrible animatedchatroomthat has little to offer? ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Fun but hard to find a date
This game is quite fun! You are able to do the most stuff with it. It is the first time that Aspyr came up with the concept to get the Sims 'out of the house'.
However, I have played this game for hours on end and still haven't been able to get a loving relationship. Its quite hard. Maybe I am doing something wrong.

5-0 out of 5 stars IT COOL BUT HARD!!!
I thought that it was really cool taking yours sims on a date!! It is a little hard for them to fall in love but you well really enjoy seeing it if you do get it!!!! After that you can get married!! And then you can adopt or have a baby after you fall in love! But it is really hard work to get a baby or even get married. A lot of kissing and hugging! Make sure to take a lot of pictures!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Memory Hog
Neat idea - get the Sims out of their houses and have them interact. The only problem? This is a HUGE memory hog! It's fun but make sure you have enough free memory to run this.

4-0 out of 5 stars HOT HOT HOT !!!!
I would have to give this four stars instead of five stars coz after a while it gets a bit boring.
In Hot date, your sim can kiss in different forms(peck on the cheek to a hot firey kiss)and can also play around in bed.
The bad bits about this are some of the stuff that you would do on a date is cut out.For example, you don't always take people out to resturuants, what about the movies?
A good thing about it is that you can design a shop, park or resturuant, but if its a highly excusive posh resturuant people just turn up in jeans and a t-shirt,not all fancy.
At first this was really fun,but now,not so much

1-0 out of 5 stars Beware if you have an older system
Beware--despite the fact that my computer apparently met the system requirements for this software, it crashed my computer upon installation and I had to pay a repairman ... to restore my system.I've since heard that other people have had similar problems with this software--but when I called Aspyr for technical support (before calling the repairman in desperation) they said they'd never heard of such a thing--it must be a coincidence (!). ... Sex and aliens. That's really all that was missing from the amazingoriginal edition of The Sims, and the expansion Livin' Largedelivers these new treats to liven up your beloved Sims existence.

New characters (including a gladiator and Xena-like warriors), and, moreimpressively, new decorations are the reasons to buy this game. Thefurnishingsare mostly grouped by theme, with the medieval dungeon option the mostauthoritative of the bunch. (Little Cassandra Goth has been longing toread by torch light all along.)

Our personal favorite is the futuristic theme, with an optional, butexpensive,maid/gardener robot to take care of the fabulous modern furnishings. ClearlytheSims team has been doing its research over at Herman Miller, and you'll have abright red, flowing-foam sofa to show for it.

But it wouldn't be The Sims if only good taste prevailed. Bring on themai tais with a tiki-heavy islander theme. There's also a startling collectionof carpeting and objects best grouped under the design ideal we call "dementedclown."

The attention-getting rarities include: a lame fortune-telling ball (ouradvicemostly centered around hiring a maid), a voodoo doll for hexing roommates, and agenie who delivers as much bad as good (dead plants, anyone?). And, yes, there'sa vibrating bed to give your Sims the spice they've been missing.

While the expansion didn't blow us away, it did provide more of the humor andnovelty true Sims die-hards will appreciate. With even more attentiontodetail than the original offering, EA deserves Sims-like applause forthis edition. --Jennifer Buckendorff ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Livin' It Up
Livin' Large wasn't bad, but I worship it compared to Vacation as it's got variety. Livin' Large has new items concentrated in the different ways of construction of a house. Lots of new doors, windows, wall textures and roofs are added as well as decoration items to go with the theme. I use the medieval theme a lot! It even includes the Love Bed, abduction of Sims are now possible through frequent use of the telescope, and Grim Reapers appear to decide the fate of your close-to-dead Sim who you can only save by beating it to a game of Stone-Papper-Scissors (cute).

Livin' Large definately enhances the game, and it's absence would affect the game greatly unlike some other expansion packs I could mention.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Most Underated Expansion Pack
Although Livin' Large is not my favorite expansion pack, I think it is the most underated. What would we do without the telescope, chemistry set and guitar?I loved all the wacky items that Maxis added and the medieval theme. If you have the sims deluxe edition don't worry about buying it... Livin' Large is included.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ehhh... it's ok
Actually this is a great installment, but my favorite is House Party. What's great about Livin' Large is mostly the items. New items include a robot, love bed, and a lot more. Like all the other expansion packs this one more neighborhoods. I would suggest you just wait for Sims 2 to come out instead of buying more expansion packs.

5-0 out of 5 stars execelent
i think this game is excelent because it is fun and funny.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great sim expansion
Now I only gave it 4 stars since I know other expansions are better. I truly love this game since I am a sims fanatic And there are great websites for thisgame such as simmerville on yahoo This is a great expansion Such i only have this expansion but I have played all other expansions But I strongly suggest this game if you love sims games!!!!!!!!! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Why Haven't You Bought This?
My first question to you is... why haven't you bought this game already? It is absolutely so addictive, it may become illegal! While it gets tedious having to make your Sim use the toilet every morning, this game is so incredibly fun. You control every single aspect of your Sim. It is so amazing! I think you only become satisfied when you have created the family of your dreams. Of course, you absolutely have to get one expansion pack or else it becomes boring. I'd recommend Hot Date or Unleashed. Have fun!

3-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing at best, but still mildly entertaining
First, I'm a Sim fan, and while the game can get quite boring, I'm still having fun so far. The reason I gave this 3 stars is that I was SORELY dissapointed by the small amount of "extras" that was provided. Aspyre Media has a nice racket going with these "Expansion Packs"All that was added was a few more jobs and the furniture, tiles and wallpaper added was a JOKE. It's not nearly as much fun as it would be if I could actually make my houses look different rather than using the same non-matching wallpaper, or the same two couches.Again, the furniture is appalling! Not much to choose from.

For example, there are three or four different types of tubs. Why not several differents type of showers, phones, dining tables, children's beds, TV's and kitchen tables and chairs? Why no clocks?

Also, people like the maids are poor too because sometimes she didn't even clean up everything, though sometimes that's funny as well as frustrating. The Sims is very popular, and I understand why, but I also understand why a lot of people complain about it as well. Aspyr Media has A LOT OF KINKS STILL TO WORK OUT!

Again, without at least one expansion pack The Sims is almost not worth playing.I have a Mac and it's been getting slowafter the installation of Livin' Large, so I'm only going to install one more Pack then I'm done.I don't want all the Packs and I don't think they're worth the money. I think getting them used is the best bet, mainly because they're only of mininal fun. I want another pack just to get more items to play with. What they provided is a J.O.K.E.

Some of the new things that come withthis pack is not even fun, like the stupid clown that follows you around and cries and wakes you up, or the 'evil twin' that can be made from the science table. WTF? Stupid and frustrating, NOT FUN OR FUNNY.

Instead of giving us 10,000 lots, how about more items to build our houses with? More items to go inside? Please?Who's building on all those lots anyway?

The one tip I have for those who complain about keeping their Sims happy (energy, bathroom, comfort, etc.)When you first get a family, or whoever, make friends and let them get their "work skills" like cooking, body, mechanical, etc. before they get a job. That way, when you get a job, you don't have to work like mad to get them some charisma and body and all that, which takes away from any social life you want them to have.

For the last time, I recommend you get this used, or play at a friends house first. If possible, buy the, I believe, Deluxe pack that gives you three games at once. After getting The Sims you'll want an expansion pack, believe me.I still enjoy the game, but I'm glad I didn't break the bank for it (for mac),The fun won't last forever. It's something that I play, put away for weeks and come back to.

Now, I'm waiting for Zoo Tycoon 2 for Mac.:)

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic game!
This combo pack has been so much fun already! I was disappointed that the Mac version is so much more expensive than the PC version, but I really wanted to own this game, so...

This is not an exciting game by any means, but it is extremely addictive as you sit and watch your Sim toast the stove for the third time. You'll get all sorts of warm fuzzies as you watch your Sims fall in love and make friends.

This is a quality game--where else can you legally slap a clown?!

4-0 out of 5 stars This is a great game!
This game is great! I bought it a couple of days ago, my friend said that it was a pretty cool expansion pack, so I tried it out at her house. Turns out, it is soooo cool. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Irritating Game
I see some people love this game.I on the other hand, dislike it very much.Mostly because in order to make your city happy, you need money to make the city better. But you run out of money to soon and try to make some adjustments in the taxes and everything, which makes the city unhappy. And while your trying to do all that, the roads keep getting messed up and needing repairs, you have to add more police stations to keep the crime at bay, ect.Plus, if your playing with the crisis', you'll have aliens burning your hard work down, earthquakes, ect. It's just not worth the time. Now if you love a tough challenge and have nothing else you can think of to do, then go right ahead and get it.Otherwise, don't waste your time or money. This is unlike the regular Sims game, which is the best PC game ever.I really can't wait for The Sims 2!Save your money for that one!It will be so much better than the first!

5-0 out of 5 stars Extremely dated but great vintage value!
I still come back to this game from time to time considering the immensely complex scope of the newest SC 4 game released recently.

I have such great memories of this game when I got in during Christmas of 1998 and played it for a long time afterwards and for most of that time, it was the most state of the art computer game that was ever created at least at that point in time.

In this game, you zone out the tiles of land for industial, commercial and residential development and manage your city's progress from a small unincorporated village into a thriving metropolis or town if you don't want it big. The game is incredibly simple compared to the newest reincarnation of the game saga.

This game is extremely dated today but tack in 1994 through late 1998, this game to me was the 'game of the future;! The graphics are quite low on detail and almost look silly by todays standards. The water pumps for example look more like pacifiers than real water pumps. The railroads are also a bit questionable by today's standards because although it makes it a lot easier to play, the railroads can be built at ninety degree angles, something that is impossible with real traintracks which can bend maybe no more than like 10 degrees. At the same time, it's quite entertaining just to see the freight trains pass the ninety degree bends with no problems at all.

This game holds a special place in my life not just because I played it so much but also because it was the game that brought the whole Simcity Saga into my life and is the grandfather of the simcity games. It's definatety a keeper just for it's vintage value and the memories that it holds for me.

A true classic in every way. This game is the grandfather of the Simcity Saga at least for me it is.

1-0 out of 5 stars It looks good, but DON'T buy it!
This game is extremely bad. The only good sim games are the awesome "The Sims" games. In SimCity, th only way to build homes, hospitals, airports etc... is to use the urban renewal kit! If you build a city useing the regular game it does not build buildings at all! If you choose to make an area of land residential, it does not build homes, it colors the land green! This game is horrible! When you look at your finished city, it is a huge color coded land mass!

4-0 out of 5 stars A gem, if you have a bit of patience...
I own the first three Sim City games, so when I got this one, I was used to playing the first Sim City, so I struggled with the interface changes and new additions. But when I began to be successful, I started to really love the funny newspapers, rewards, and other good things, so I am a convert. It's a shame that SimCity 3000 failed to compel me half as much. Buy this one and abort your search for fancy graphics: once you master this game, you won't care that they aren't in crisp 3D.

4-0 out of 5 stars Boredom Buster
This game deserves four stars if your playing for a boredom buster instead of enjoyment. This is a fun yet agrivating game that can keep you playing for days trying to get that big city any mayor wished they could have. The game is aggrivating in a way because it is easy to fail and have your city go into debt. But If youre bored this is a great game. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars False Advertisement
All,

My son recently purchased The Sims Collection. I was with him when he placed the order so that I could handle the CC info.

This game clearly states in the ad that it will work with Windows 98/me/XP. NOT TRUE.

We received the game and upon installation,The Sims and Theme Park lock up his system (he has XP). I went on line and found that others have had the same problem.

I emailed Amazon to see if they will accept a return although their policy on software indicates they will not.

This is nonsense. Not everyone is a "techie" or a full time "gamer", You rely on the information provided by the COMPANY YOU ARE BUYING FROM.

Beware of one sided deals. With Amazon, they will suck you in with low proces..but then,...You buy it, you own it. If it doesn't work, tell your kids to deal with it and buy them another from someone that can accurately describe the products they sell and know the difference between 98/ME and XP.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sounds like a pretty good deal to me!
This pack sounds really good to me. It contains many good games in it. Anyone who is interested in at least one of the games, should buy this anyway!! I play "The sims" (one of the games included in the pack) and its wonderfull!A point I should mention - Sim City and Sim Theam ParkDONT WORk on XP!! (and as you notice, its half of the pack). Even if i cant use two of the games, I would still buy it. The Sims is A GREAT GAME!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great! especially the sims online!
I just got this and i was esspecially ecited to try The Sims Online. So i did, i tried the game and it is so cool! Ive met so many people and i am having a blast! The other games are ok, but The Sims Online is deffinatly my favorite. Even though you have to pay 10$ a month, i think once you try it you will realize it is very well worth it!

3-0 out of 5 stars About the games in this pack.
Originally written 11-22-2003:I'm a huge fan of the sims and recommened that people should try playing it, however there are seven expansions for this game that have been released and now you can't find the second two expansions alone because Maxis has bundled the original and the first two expansions together for something like $50.If you want the sims I suggest you do that, though in the near future they will probably combine more expansions together. That and The Sime 2 is set to be released in the early Spring of 2004, with much better graphics and an overall updated appearance and better gameplay, no more Sims 1 expansions will be realeased as they are going to start expanding Sims 2 eventually.

As for the Sims online, I never got into that, even though I'm a huge sims fan.The reason being that you pay the money for the game and get, at the time of realease, a free two months to play online. But, after this time you have to pay like $10 a month to use it, since you have to play online and you have to pay to do so.

I have Sim Themepark and played it for a couple of months, it was actually quite fun, the graphics could have been better, but all in all it was decent, but once you play all the way through and buy everything it loses its luster and gets old pretty fast.

I haven't played this version of SimCity, but have played other versions.I always got a kick out of playing it but once again it gets old pretty fast.A lot of the time after you've played it for a while, I at least, started making disasters happen just for some excitement.Again, I haven't played this version and the newest version (not this one) looks really great, with better graphics and all, even expansions to the game.

Overall, I'd say that if you know that you really want SimCity or Sim Theme Park and you are inserested in seeing what the sims is and not wanting to really expand it that much and you don't want to just wait for the Sims 2 release then by all means get this.Don't buy it for Sims Online unless you are willing to pay the money every month for the ability to play it.

Overall I think for $40 this ain't that bad, the games are on the old side now but are generally still fun, excluding Sims Online (though I've heard that's all in what you make of it, but you still have to pay to play).

Since you can get the updated versions of these game now for like this price my final word is that if you are getting this because you like one of the games then forego getting this and get the better newer version of that game. But if you want to try them out then go ahead.

I hope this helps someone decide on whether to buy this bundle. ^_^

***UPDATED 04-17-2004:Well I've come back and looked at this again recently and see that they've lowered the price. For $20 I guess that makes it a little better. It's seems bargain basement compared to the $40 it was at.I still say that if you are just getting this for one of the games then get the updated versions, but if you just want to try these all out then go for it.$20 is hard to pass up for 4 games.Though you still have to remember you have to pay $10 a month to play sims online.*** ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A Historic Game
If you still own a Super Nintendo that functions, and you are at all involved with the recent SimCity games for the PC, then this game is a must have. This is the one that started it all. Before SimCity, it was unprecedented to have a game that emulates real life. Not only was this a new genre of gaming, but opened up a new way of thinking in the video game industry.By getting this game you are doing your share in preserving video game history.

5-0 out of 5 stars Do you have what it takes?
First and foremost, the reviewer sitebender is a little off with his explination that achieving a population of 1,000,000 (1 million) Sims (people) is the ultimate goal. It's 500,000 (half a million) my friend. One million is simply impossible.Once you attain half a million Sims, you reach the Megalopis level, which is what sitebender was getting at, the utlimate goal of the game.

However, it's not the only goal.Your objective doesn'tnecessarily have to be obtaining a large population.Your game plan could be to have a population of a mere three thousand Sims with fifty football stadiums.Or maybe a city with no police stations, a crime driven city for mobsters and thugs to kick back.It could be anything! That's why this Super NES classic has such high replay value. In fact, over theyears, I've found this to be the best Sim game every created, for PC and video game consoles alike. It's that damn fun.

There's so many magnetizing factors involved with this game, that it's almost impossible to put the controller down, especially if you're a first time Sim player.

Unlike other games that get beat and collect dust, Sim City for the Super NES will remain a fresh and heavily used video game. You can't exactly beat this game, because there's always a new challenge that awaits within. An excellent game.Sheer excellence. So as the mayor of Sim City, will you have what it takes to maintain the city you are in complete control of?You'll never know unless you try!

2-0 out of 5 stars all wrong!!!!!
this didn't install properly, after i got it installed 2 of the games didn't work!!!! sim golf and sim theme park.. totally waste of money and time i feel sorry for my mom who bought this! i wonder what sim mania 3 will include?? if you thought it would be cool to ride your rollercoasters and make them on sim coaster you were wrong. there is not enough power over your coasters and the challenges are hard to beat on sim coaster.
sim golf was pathetic!! i couldn't even play sim theme park it didn't work so good!!! golly gee why couldn't they put other sim games in it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Way To Skip The Best One, EA Games
I give this 2 stars for benefit of the doubt because I have not played Sim Coaster.

Sim Theme Park and Sim Golf did nothing for me, not even fun in an initial sense, but I confess I've never played a Golf video game I liked.Golf for me is being there.

Sim City 3k, when it came out and I rushed to buy it, I thought was a step up in detail, capability and graphics from its predecessor, but it was a step down in gameplay, stability and music (though many couldn't care less about the latter).

This visit to Amazon was actually to see if there was a Sim Mania package that had SimCity 2000, because I'd love to have that game compatible with my current system.THAT was a heck of a game.SimCity Classic was popular, but it was 2k that really put Maxis (the developer at the time) on the map.It wasn't as advanced as SimCity 3k, but it was an all around superior game.

The reason why I'd rate SimCity3k at only 1 star is not because it's a terrible game. It's okay. But I just think it's a waste of time.SimCity 2k is worth playing, and if you really want the best SimCity game all around (that's currently out), I can't imagine an arguement against SimCity 4, as long as you get the Rush Hour expansion pack too.

3-0 out of 5 stars My Op
Maybe they did not work on your computers because simply your computer is outdated. It workered great on mine no problems i even ran with Xp. This game is ok but i prefer other EA games. And to anyone who thinks EA is a bad company is wrong. This company is making millions and is making the games i love. I suggest anyone read up on them they are not some unqualified team of dummys but one team of experts.

Amazon.com Review

Don't cry for me, SimCity. As the mayor--potentate, really--the entire future and design of the city is within your hands. A classic city-simulation game, the new version boasts scores of cool improvements, including more refined graphics.

The infrastructure of your new home is intense, and so are the tasks at hand: building roads, establishing water and power lines, providing civil protection through fire and police stations--and reviewing city finances to make sure all these things can happen. The realistic details in SimCity 3000 are what make it brilliant: an icon for "subway to rail connection" allows you to create a spot for your city residents to change trains on their daily commute.

The pleasing graphics offer color palates similar to a Diego Rivera painting or a Rockefeller Center mural. With an endless array of satisfying options and fascinating possibilities, a review of this edition requires almost ridiculous hyperbole and praise. A great way to get lost in careful consideration for days on end, SimCity 3000 is simply the best game of its type. --Jennifer Buckendorff ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One Word: Awesome
This is the kind of game that makes you want to keep playing for the rest of your life. You start out with the basics, a few zones, a power plant, and eventually some development. There really are infinite choices to build a city with. It is just so dang addictive! This game will consume your soul! Mwa,ha,ha,ha.
Okay just kidding. Well, anyway if you like city building pick this game up, you'll thank me.

5-0 out of 5 stars very good and perhaps better than SC2000
I found this to be a delightful game. I played it the most on my mother's old HP Celeron 466 with only a small video card so sometimes it ran slowly. On today's computer's I'm sure it won't be a problem though. I loved the older version--Sim City 2000--and this seemed to improve on that (other than the need for a fast computer) and it struck a good balance between being realistic and being too complicated.

I suspect you will really like it and you will be happy you bought it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy it!!!!!!!
