4-0 out of 5 stars Aliens VS Predator VS Marines VS Win XP
I must start out by stating that this is a HARD game (from beginning to end). The pure terror that the marine missions induce is matched by no other game that I have played. You will quickly find that is not the ordinary, run of the mill shooter.Other games have been touted as the thinking mans shooter, if that is so, then AVP is the chess master of shooters. As the marine you will often find yourself creeping along at painfully slow speeds only to anticipate whats around the next bend.Once you turn that corner and there's nothing there, you breath a sigh of relief, pause the game, use the bathroom, and continue on your journey. The Alien missions are extremely fast paced due to there wicked speed and ability to climb walls and to cling to ceilings. As the Predator, you'll wish you could stay cloaked the entire mission, just avoid encounters. The gameplay, visuals, and sound are straight from the Aliens & Predator movies, which, depending on whether or not you liked them, this could be a good thing.

There are, however, two downsides to this game. The first being that it is very frightening and difficult to master.

The second being that it has problems running on my Windows XP system.I am running an Athlon XP 3200+, 512mb DDR 400 RAM, a Radeon 9600 XT 256mb video card & Windows XP Professional SP1.I should be able to max out the resolution and still achieve over 100 FPS, but at 640x480 the frame rates are in the low 20's.When I first bought this game I ran it on an AMD K6/3 450mhz overclocked to 475mhz with a TNT2 Ultra 32mb & 384mb PC100 SDRAM.at 800x600 the game ran along nicely at 50fps with Windows 98 Second Edition.Call it bad luck or whatever, but my situation stinks.

4-0 out of 5 stars Classic Terror Game That Leaves You In A State Of Uneasiness
Made from the combination of the Sci-Fi classic movies "Aliens" and "Predator", this game combines a cinematic environment mixed with great suspense, terror, gore, and action. Journey into futuristic environments as one of three accessable characters in hope of accomplishing overall domination over the others and complete your given objectives to win the game. Be the acid spewing alien with grippling hands and super fast agility, the very mortal human colonal equiped with explosive guns and ammo, or the cloaking, stealthful, self healing predator. Each has its advantages and disadvantages over another and each with its different game play and control.

Isn't compatible with XP much and some downsides of the game, as with many, is the A.I. setting and not enough levels. The game is also considered for intermediate to pro first-person shooting pc gamers and will take much practice and patience, not to mention heart and a fast trigger finger to beat.

I would definetly recommend this game for 15 year olds and up even though its M rated. Try to play this game without a guide or cheat codes and use your head instead. Its worth it more when you actually win. Good luck and happy shopping and I hope this guide will help. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Opposing Force returns the player to the Black Mesa facility, but tells the tale from the perspective of Col. Adrian Shephard, one of the soldiers sent to clean up the scientists and their reality-altering mess. Just as in Half-Life, things quickly go badly for Colonel Shephard and his men. Ambushed by aliens, Adrian must fight his way through the ruins of the facility in an attempt to reach a helicopter extraction point.

What makes Opposing Force shine is the way it expands on the story of Half-Life. Colonel Shephard passes though areas that players of Half-Life are sure to recognize, and he occasionally runs into characters from the original game, including the infuriating Man in Suit. Opposing Force also introduces several new weapons, such as a sniper rifle (with scope), heavy machine gun, and a .357 Magnum with a laser sight. There's even a "weapon" that is actually a common alien creature from the first game; its unique features allow it to be used as a kind of grappling hook.

Several new aliens make an appearance as well, almost all of them deadly. They exhibit the same sophisticated AI (artificial intelligence) as the monsters in Half-Life, relentlessly and intelligently attacking Adrian as he makes his way through the game's impressive levels. Fortunately, Colonel Shephard's rank allows him to take command of any soldiers he encounters. Riflemen and machine gunners can be ordered to follow Adrian and provide covering fire, or assigned to guard a door or room. Engineers can cut through locked or blocked doorways, while Medics can heal the injured. Unlike Half-Life's solitary "me against the world" game play, the addition of competent friendly forces provides a feeling of camaraderie: there's nothing like leading a squad of loyal Marines against an alien horde. --Mike Fehlauer

5-0 out of 5 stars Much better than Half Life
This is game is much cooler, more fun than Half life. Weapons are good, there are less annoying puzzles, night vision googles are cool, AI is awesome, new and more deadly aliens. Yes the game is shorter than Half Life, but who cares when you are having fun playing it over and over again. You can make 2-3 soldiers work beside your side. Suggest everybody to buy OpFor with BlueShift, you will get high definition pack, which improves graphics and gives new looks to weapons and aliens. A MUST BUY FOR EVERY FPS FAN.

4-0 out of 5 stars just go with steam
This game is a big rip-off now cuz u can jus get it on steam 4 fr33 if u register a yur copy of half-life. u can also get awsome stuff like counter strike, tfc, codename gordon, and other games 4 fr33.
the game itslf is not as good as half-life, but still demanded as much attention as hl.

dont buy it, just get it 4 fr33, dawg.

5-0 out of 5 stars Through the eyes of ...
major Shephard. Experience Half-Life's Lambda Complex incident all over again through the eyes of major Shephard, part of a squad sent in to contain the chaos that has erupted in the Lambda Research Complex.
First, play Half-Life. Actually, this game won't even run without it so you don't have much of a choice.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nothing can match Half-Life, but this is a worthy try.
Although significantly shorter, with worse weapon-pacing, a lot less story and a lot of inconsistancy, Opposing Force manages to still satisfy through great gameplay and innovative new aliens.

No game will ever come close to the unmitigated brilliance that was Sierra's 1998 release Half-Life, so expecting a mission pack to come even close may have hurt public opinion for this game. Not helping matters is the fact that for about the same cost you get a far shorter game.Additionally, the weapons are all apprehended too quickly and a lot of the plot (which dissapears all too quickly) meshes with the original game.

In Op4 you are Adrian Shephard, a corporal sent in to eliminate all traces of the debacle at Black Mesa. However, shortly before reaching the LZ your helicopter is shot down by weird creatures and you are separated from your squadmates. The military has realized it's in over its head and pulls back, but you are left behind, trying to stay alive with other remnant forces.
Despite all the negative reasons i have listed above and the anti-climatic, seemingly rushed ending, this is still a very fun game.It keeps some weapons and adds innovative new ones.It keeps almost all the old aliens and adds brilliant new ones, and action sequences that are difficult and entertaining.

I would reccomend that anyone new to the Half-Life family purchase and enjoy the original first, but this is still a worthy game and highly reccomended to any Half-Life devotee.6.5/10

5-0 out of 5 stars Great, but not greatest.
This game is truly the greatest add-on for half-life, other than CS. I wasn't too thrilled with being able to play "bob"(blue-shift), but I couldn't wait to play this. The army always bugged the s*** out of me, and I wanted to be them. But it wasn't exactly what I expected. They could have made this 3000 times better if they knew that the problem was going on, not being thrusted into the action like everyone else. I wanted to be able to neutralize the threat, and the facilitators. Not have them be our crutch. and, you dont get good ammo/weapons in the beginning. It's annoying! But I enjoyed this. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars STAR TREK: STARFLEET COMMAND 3
Star Trek Starfleet Command 3.Could there ever be a better game? After you play this game, you will answer that question the smae way I did.No.In SFC3, you can play as Federation, Klingon, Romulan, and Borg. From the sleek Soverign class vessel (U.S.S. Enterprise 1701-E) to the massive Borg Cube.Fire a variety of weapons, including Quantum Torpedoes, Phasers, Disruptors, and Gavemetiric Torpedoes.Beam you troops over on hit-and-run raids to disable enemy systems, or to attempt the impossible: take over the entire vessel.
Create fleets of up to five vessels, and gang up on small vessels.Invade enemy territory in missions ranging from Planetary Scan, Assulting defensless stardocks, or taking a suicidal run on an enemy starbase.
Launch Probes, cloak, use an anti-cloaking scan, launch specialized shuttles, an perform eratic manuvers.Manage your sheilds to prevent enemy boarding parties from completeing their mission.Name your ship, and create ships from the shows like the U.S.S. Defiant, and visit noted locations such as Sector 00,01 (Earth), Romulus, Remus, The Borg Homeworld, and the legendary home of th klingons, Q'ronos.
Engage in 4 epic campagins, icluding for all major star empires, The United Federation of Planets, The Kligon DefenseFleet,The Romulan Star Empire, and the Borg Collective.Or, you can just ignore polotics, and go on to conquer the galaxy.
Anyway, you can count on SFC3 being the best STAR TREK game ever.It is not worth the $90.00 it's being sold for, though, so buy it at a computer game store.Good Luck Conquering the galaxy. You can e-mail me if you have any questions about the game at comderbashir@yahoo.comJolan Tru

2-0 out of 5 stars Star Trek Bridge Commander.
I've been playing Star Trek Bridge Commander for a while now after I purchased the game just a few years ago. The computer graphics are great if you like to take the Captain's Chair. This game requires some stragety and it's often difficult to play. I have to play this game a number of times before I can get through the next level. But if you are a extremely better gamer and love Star Trek this game is for you. If not don't buy this game if you are not satisified.

4-0 out of 5 stars Play with no expectations...
Don't expect this to be as good as half-life. However, expect it to be good in its' own way. Nice character models, and a true home-made feel. This was, after all, an add-on submitted by amateurs and submitted to Valve for consideration. Valve recieved hundreds of add-on packs weekly by amateurs and the only one accepted for retail release was this one. A little short, but still a nice and unique feeling universe. Textures are similar to half-life before the update patch. Voice acting borders on good. Creativity is a 4 out of 5 in my book! Nice plot with some real twists. Your stuck on a planet that goes completely haywire and starts spewing deformed creatures at you and your group of fellow space-travellers. Nice openning to a good game with some minor lags mid-way through. However, in the tradition of Half-Life, it picks up steam with a nice scenery and action change and a reasonably good ending sequence. Very enjoyable, even now. As long as you're not used to the eye candy that is UNREAL 2 or GRAND THEFT AUTO : VICE CITY.

4-0 out of 5 stars great and you dont need half life to play it
This rocks made in the likness of half life this is more like a add on and it has good weapons models with a bunch of mods for firing lots of cool maps yes you can play online you can even get mods off the internet just like in half life for anybody who has played half life get this if you never played half life or its addons get them as well as this you will be hooked to your pc for months for anybody who likes frist person shooters get this and half life if you hav'nt already ... Anyone truly against the idea of hunting would appreciate this game regardless of the gameplay.Innovativeness should be held in equal esteem as asthetics.Hunting hunters is cool in my book and once you give the game a chance it's quite satisfying :)

1-0 out of 5 stars waste of software

4-0 out of 5 stars WORTH PLAYING!!!!
If you liked half life then this game is worth playing. Its pretty much a remake of the half life engine.the story is good along with the old wild west type environments and themes.the enemies, xenomes, desperados are original and that makes gunman a hyper powered half life.the best level is the last cause youfight in outer space on the surface of an alien wild west planet.my onlycon is the lack of guns although the rocket launcher is pretty cool.overall this game is worth buying......that is if you are a half life fan!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Gunman Chronicles by -=[PoSt@L]=-
the single player part of the game is fun, but the best part of this games is the multi-player on-line side . . . oh yea, the action is fast & in your face, the weapons need to be customized as you pick them up & the gunman world is small (that is what I like). This game you will only find 5-10 servers on-line at a time, but don't let that fool ya, there is always someone to do battle with & the full time players are some real friendly types too!One of the servers is PostalsPlace.com, it is a 10 player TEAM server hosted by the MIGHTY -=[PoSt@L]=- UNION . . . what a good bunch of guys to visit & play with, tell them I sent ya !

4-0 out of 5 stars decent game
ok. all these reveiws say this game is infirior compared to half life. it is. i'll admit it. in many ways in fact. but the fact still remains that this game is entertaining. it will last you a couple days. when it came out i would have told you to steer clear of this game at all costs. now however you can find it in the bargin bin at alot of stores for like .99 to $5. for this price it is a good game. few bargin games are as fun as this game. so the point is. it isn't a supirior game but for .99 cents it delivers enough to keep you ocupied

4-0 out of 5 stars HL:Gunman Chronicles Review
Gunman Chronicles is an add-on to the original half-life game. So it's won't work without it.
The game's graphics are far from being top-notch and the story isn't that great either. It doesn't really fit in the half-life universe.
But still, this is one of the best games I've ever played! It gives you a nice feeling, and creates a great atmosphere! Enemy population is quite diverse and so are the many weapons that you can change their firing rate, style and so. It also has some drivable vehicles like tanks.
If you're a FPS and/or half-life fan, I definetly recommend this game!

5-0 out of 5 stars Get this game, its alot of fun
The old West theme really works. They do a great job with the robots and the old west bandits. The weird 1970s version of outer space art is really imaginative and colorful. AWESOME GAME. The aliens look like desparados and the AI is above average. Its long and lots of fun for just a few dollars. This game got a raw deal in the ratings. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars So So for a Real Gamer
This WWI era plane sim is unbelivibly hard to control. The planes don't have rear gunners. Also, the game gets repeditive. On the good side it has good graphics for its time and realistic planes and iterface.Overall 3 Stars.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not bad, but needs improvements
This game is a good flight combat sim, but there are a few things thatcould be changed.First of all, it is very difficult to control the planeif you do not have a joystick.Second, it is also hard to get the enemyinto view in order to shoot him down.Overall, i thought this game to bemore frustrating than fun, and it also does not incorporate with the restof the Red Baron series. It tells you nothing of how to control the planewhich is difficult in the 1st place.Being a long time player of Red Barongames, my personal favorite is "Hunt for the Red Baron".You canfind it at www.fiendishgames.com and it is VERY VERY fun.Curse you RedBaron, however, is not at all worth the money and I do not recommend anyoneto waste their cash on it.Save yourself the frustration!Do not buy thisgame!

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredibly Addictive!

Amazon.com Review

Keep your fingers flying in your free time with the Sierra Arcade Pack, featuring After Dark Games, 3-D Ultra Pinball, Lost Continent, Fastest Pinball in Space, and 3-D Ultra Minigolf. Each is gorgeous and progressively challenging, offering something for kids, newbies, and experienced arcade players--and keeping them all interested for many an hour.

The After Dark set of 11 mini arcade games can be installed as a screen saver or run at any time, and they provide enough reflex, word, spatial, and trivia problems to keep even your resident genius engaged. Try saving tenants from a burning building by detonating adjacent rooms in Roof Rats or unscramble words in Fish Schticks, then relax with a few hands of After Dark Solitaire. The graphics are cute and well designed throughout, and each game is quirky and interesting, though the sounds do grate after a while.

The two pinball games are dramatic and impressive; the 3-D perspective is an integral part of each table, and the sights and sounds are intricate and lush. Moving away from the boxy look of real-life tables, these feature balls running through more or less naturalistic settings that still feature everything you'd expect from a great pinball game--flippers, bumpers, lights, and surprises--but go beyond your expectations to create some wild challenges that will puzzle the experts game after game.

Finally, the 3-D Ultra Minigolf course (all 18 holes) is a bit less serene than a day at the amusement park. Sure, there are a few classic holes to get you started, but before long you have to contend with crazy machines and creatures intent on pushing your score into the stratosphere. Observation and timing are crucial to make it anywhere near your par for the whole course, and you'll find yourself returning over and over to try to beat your best score.

If you're easily distracted, stay away: the Sierra Arcade Pack is guaranteed to keep you from your thesis, thank-you letters, or expense report. --Rob Lightner ... Read more

So why not give this one a try?You will be glad you did.

Ok this seemed very strange and cool at the same time, you get 3D Ultra Minigolf Deluxe, 2 3D-Ultra Pinball games, and After Dark Stuff... and on another site 3-D Ultra Minigolf (not deluxe version) was around $30! If you like golf and pinball, get this.

3-D Ultra Minigolf is a good, 3D(well duh), game of Minigolf. It has most of the originals too. The old Windmill Hole, other Minigolf favorites, and of course, new holes, like the Haunted House. But... the penalty strokes get VERY annoying!

3-D Ultra Pinball is a great demonstration of brilliance. Nice graphics, sounds are very good, and fun is top-rated. Pinball would have been more... old, if this didn't come along. A great game, a must buy, and two flippers from me!

Amazon.com Review

Strategy games, a racing game, a card game, arcade games, a fishing game, and the wickedly funny trivia quiz-show game You Don't Know JACK--Mac Seven Pack has it all.

Try one multiple-choice question written in the You Don't Know JACK style--Mac Seven Pack is:

1. The "as-seen-on-late-night-TV" KTEL compilation of the Greatest Computer Game Music Hits of the '90s!

2. The official multiple personality test of the Macintosh Olympics.

3. A case-by-case antidote to the Seven Deadly Sins.

4. Your library's one-stop shopping source for seven classic Macintosh games.

Beep, time's up! Of course you guessed number four, so you win! And what a prize: a seven-piece software bundle, with something for everyone. Here's what the Mac Seven Pack has to offer:

3D Ultra Pinball

For these bright flashing moments, your computer grows bumpers and flippers and emits arcade-quality "ka-ching" noises. The good news--you don't have to feed it quarters. The not-as-good news--it's not so gripping that you'll be tempted to slap your monitor around instead of pressing the so-called "tilt" button. If you like pinball games, you'll be happy--if you don't like playing pinball, this isn't likely to change your mind.

Caesar II

Ambitious and superbly balanced sim-Roman strategy game. Build your ancient Roman city, balance the wants and needs of your people in order to build a strong foundation for empire, then conquer the rest of the provinces and govern your way up to the big leagues in Rome.

Lords of the Realm II

Another strategy game, medieval this time. Where Caesar II emphasizes urban planning and crisis management, Lords of the Realm II emphasizes military conquest.

Hoyle Solitaire

Playing card games by yourself is an American institution. Heck, it's worldwide. Computers reduce wear and tear on the cards and relieve you of the need to shuffle. Hoyle Solitaire, in particular, provides crisp graphics and record keeping. No more wondering where you stuck that last deck of cards--it's on the computer.

NASCAR Racing

The classic stock car racing game, meshing racing action and pit-stop logistics. It's gripping and playable without being easy. You'll have to work fairly hard to win many races, and that's how it should be on the NASCAR circuit.

Trophy Bass

If you love fishing--and want to choose your gear, practice your casts, plan your route, choose your spots, and (when you get it right) wrestle your catch into the boat after a tough fight--Trophy Bass is for you. If you've never fished in your life, Trophy Bass will give you a fair sense of what you've been missing--minus the cooler full of beer, the buzzing mosquitoes, and the long hours when nothing happens.

You Don't Know JACK

An irreverent, well-executed, and challenging quiz-show game, playable by up to four people at a time. Not for adults whose humor glands can't process sarcasm, and not really for children, either. Children who will understand the game's sometimes racy humor are still unlikely to answer many questions correctly, so this game is best saved for the grownups. --Rob Heinsoo

5-0 out of 5 stars This Kicks!!!
I am 12. I have Half-Life.It's the best game I ever played.I justbought this game, and it's just as good as the original.Half-Life is thebest game ever made.

5-0 out of 5 stars No Reason Not To Buy If You Meet These Requirements
Do you like 1st person shooter games? (I didn't really, butLOVED this.) Do you like great graphics? Do you not want to pay for the full version? Do you want a little more than the demo can offer? Do you realize there's a REASON this was named Game of the Year, among many other awards? Do you like realism, suspense, great sound, music and FUN in a game? Do you not own the game, but are wondering what all the hype is about?

If you answered YES to the above questions, then there's absolutely NO reason not to buy this game. Also, FYI, some cool stuff about it is: Can turn blood on or off, it matters where you shoot someone/something (unlike Quake), and it's FUN!What are you waiting for!

If nothing else, please, PLEASE download the free demo. It's really worth it, and it's really THAT fun, even now--2 years after it was made! An instant classic no gamer's library (and I'm a mild gamer--maybe 4-5 titles a year) should be without. Very, VERY worth it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Do not buy this for Team Fortress Classic
Half-Life rocks and the other reviews are right on that this is agreat way to get into into it if you're not sure about dropping $for the full version. But the Team Fortress Classic inclusion will NOT be playable online.I got this disc b/c I thought that I could jump online and frag my friends for a mere 10 bucks. It would never let me log on tho'!So I called Sierra tech support and they said the version included on the initial Encounter Disc would not be playable online.Period.

If you want TFC buy the full version. On the plus side though I'm much more inclined to pay the $ for the full version just because this demo is SO cool.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best way to enter the world of Half-Life
For some reason, people still haven't bought Half-Life, voted recently the best game of all time. If you're still not sure about buying it, this pack will put your doubts to rest very quickly. It contains Uplink, the officialHalf-Life demo, which contains material that you won't find in the retailgame! The setting is the Black Mesa Research Facility 24 hours aftersomething called the "Incident". You quickly realize somethingterrible happened here, but if you want the full story you will need thebuy the game. Also included is the Team Fortress Classic game, a team-basedmulitplayer game which was released for the game free, and has quicklybecome one of the most played multiplayer games ever. The games vary fromCapture the Flag variations to The Hunted, where one team must protect adefenseless teammate from the dreaded Assassin team. All in all, the gameis well-worth the cheap $10.00 price tag. My advice to you is to buy thedemo, then if you like it you can buy the Adrenelin Pack, which containsthe full game, TFC, and the official add-on Opposing Force, which was namedthe greatest add-on pack of all time. All of this is guaranteed to stay onyour hard drive for a good long time, especially with all the greatuser-made levels you can get off the net.

5-0 out of 5 stars Demo of Half Life!
This has the demo of half life and Team Fortess Classic with it.The demo is a little bigger than the uplink demo(like from first level to fourth or fifth level). This is a must see if you are new to half life or you can getthe full game! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars One star is way too much for these games!!
MAKE YOURSELF A FAVOR: FORGET ABOUT THIS ONE.

Don't throw away your money like I did when I bought them separately! This is a terrible deal!

This game pack featuring the first two games of the SWAT series is not worth it.

Why? Well the original SWAT is a slow-paced game constantly interupted by bad quality videos, and simply not worth your money or time.

SWAT 2 is even worse! This is the most mediocre game I've ever seen. How about officers that try to walk thru a wall instead of around it?

Terrorist and hostages that run to the edge of the screen and dissapear no matter how many SWAT officers you have surrounding them?

There are too many hot keys that you have to memorize in order to supposedly play easier and better, but they don't do the job and is hard to remember them.

Beware! these are just a few of the many problems you will face when you try to play this game. Save those bucks, because this a terrorist threat...to your money.

I cant believe Sierra had the courage of assembling this pack without including SWAT 3. SWAT 3 is where the real SWAT series begin and the only of the 3 you should buy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Review for Police Quest Game
This is the best game in the worl and if you disagree with me, well, who cares. It is really fun and stuff cuz you pretend you are a real officer and drive your patrol car around. YEAH!

3-0 out of 5 stars Good graphics and intence missions.
This game is perfect for those into extreme stealth and strategy. Doesnt contain the action you thought it would but is still very fun. Plenty of missions to go over and rot your lil mind out with. ... Read more
