Amazon.com Review

Revolutionizing the online first-person shooter genre with a seamless indoor/outdoor game engine, Starsiege Tribes backs up its snazzy technology with sophisticated online-only gameplay. Tribes is the perfect game for action fans looking for something more cerebral than Quake but less complicated than Rogue Spear.

Players are able to customize their high-tech warrior to suit individual play styles: snipers will go with light armor, extra battery pack, and a laser rifle; fans of less-subtle tactics will grab heavy armor, a mortar, plasma gun, and shield pack to create a walking tank. This level of customization adds an unusual amount of depth for a game in the first-person shooter genre, and it's fun to mix up gear choices in order to react to battlefield conditions.

And oh, what a beautiful battlefield it is. Players begin the game within their home base, but once free of those crowded halls, a limitless vista greets the eyes. Rolling hills, snow-covered peaks, and eerie moonscapes provide a stunning backdrop to the action as players zoom around with jetpacks. Outposts, towers, and weapon emplacements provide strategic objectives and sniping platforms; hovercraft and personnel carriers allow quick transport and airborne assaults.

Blasting your way across the world of Tribes is fun, but it's not the only gameplay option. Less action-oriented gamers can assume the role of Commander and issue orders to teammates. The Commander is especially useful during matches that require intricate teamwork, such as capture the flag, capture and hold, and defend and destroy. --Mike Fehlauer

Pros:

  • Can pick weapons and equipment to suit mood and play style
  • Visually impressive game engine
  • Jetpacks
Cons:
  • Poor tutorial

5-0 out of 5 stars apex of gaming
Tribes is the best game ever made on the face of the earth. This is THAT game. Miss the golden age of gaming? Tribes came out at the same time as Half-Life, and many people overlooked the game that could have brung it about a second time. It's a bit too late now, unfortunately. The community is pretty much gone. Unfortunately, many of the people that play it now are rather childish and 'elitist', which may detract from the experience unless you have a group you can play it with. Approach this game at your own risk. It's the best.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE BEST GAME ON THE FACE OF THE EARTH
Starsiege Tribes is (by a Hiroshima) the best game on our planet. There is so much, I repeat, SO MUCH to do in the tribes universe. One problem with the game that is a problem but once you play you'll forget: NO single player. The multiplayer is SO good that this game should be called BUBBA and Halo and all those other[...] games should be renamed BUBBA'S[...]. For $10 or less, you cannot beat this. Get it. Absorb it. Die a happy gamer. You will not regret it my friends.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Game Ever
Tribes is the best game of all time, of any genre, in any human culture in the history of the Earth.

If Tribes had a downside, it would be that the player, when in the Tribes universe, no longer is affected by the normal rules of Time that we all know and are normally governed by. The side effects of this include Agelessness (and the consequences thereof) and, after prolonged exposure, inability to percieve time correctly when not in the Tribes universe (sped up/slowed down perception of time, as well as, in extreme cases, 'slippage', the inability to maintain a fixed path through the flow of time). Also Tribes simulates a mild euphoria that tends to keep the Tribes player in the Tribes universe indefinitely. If properly supervised, the Tribes player can be brought back out of the Tribes universe at regular intervals, but it must be a slow transition to avoid permanent damage.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing Game
Vehicles. Vast outdoor environments. Focus on teamplay. Online support for at least 32 players. Base equipment and trinkets. Jetpacks offering full freedom of movement. Mixing and matching gear to create your own roles. Never the same game twice. Even today these features make Tribes stand out in a crowd of other FPS games, but several years ago when the original Tribes was released, it was downright revolutionary. Whether you bought the box, downloaded the demo, or "borrowed" it from a buddy, chances are you've tried Tribes. If not, then you've still experienced its influence in any number of other games that have since embraced its successful combination of features

Best of all? Its free on FilePlanet!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great game, but why pay for it?
You already know that Tribes is a great game from the other reviews, but did you know you can now get it for free?

With the upcoming release of "Tribes: Vengeance", Vivendi Studios has made Starsiege: Tribes available for free to the public, downloadable off of www.fileplanet.com.So don't bother paying tewnty bucks for the jewel case, when you can have the full version of the game within hours for free, instead of within days for upwards of thirty dollars. ... With Half-Life, 1998's Game of the Year; Team Fortress Classic, the incredibly popular multiplayer-only game; and Opposing Force, the most impressive expansion pack we've ever seen, Half-Life: Adrenaline Pack is a complete collection sure to alter any gamer's body chemistry.

Half-Life quietly debuted in late 1998, and the gaming community was forever changed. Instantly soaring to bestseller status, the groundbreaking title eventually earned over 50 Game of the Year awards. The combination of an intriguing, well-paced plot, smooth graphics, cunning enemy AI (artificial intelligence), brilliant level design, and revolutionary in-game scripted events make Half-Life an unforgettable gaming experience. You play as Gordon Freeman, a mild-mannered scientist assigned to handle hazardous materials in the government-funded Black Mesa Research Facility. Something goes wrong--horribly wrong--with one of the more exotic experiments, and Gordon must try to escape. Along the way, he has to try to rescue his fellow scientists, master the use of conventional and not-so-conventional weapons, avoid or kill bizarre alien monstrosities, and learn the true nature of the research at Black Mesa.

Team Fortress Classic is a multiplayer-only action game that uses the Half-Life game engine and interface. Ease of use and pulse-pounding game play have made TFC one of the most popular action games on the Net. Finding and connecting to games is a quick and painless process; once connected, any gamer will quickly feel at home. Players choose a character class from such World War II movie favorites as Scout, Pyro, Soldier, Engineer, Medic, Spy, Sniper, or Heavy Weapons Guy. The class determines your health, armor, speed, available weapons, and special ability. Special abilities range from the Medic's ability to heal comrades and poison foes to the Spy's ability to assume the guise of any other class.

It's the teamwork that makes TFC so much fun. Each player is a member of a team and must work with the other team members to accomplish the goals, of capturing the flag, base defense, or planning to kill the enemy VIP. An effective team includes a good mix of character classes and a leader of the team's efforts. The person in charge might assign a sniper to cover a large expanse of open ground or tell a team to take out an enemy bunker. The maps included with TFC emphasize team-based play, and the surprisingly productive Half-Life/TFC player community constantly produces new maps and modifications.

Opposing Force returns the player to the Black Mesa facility, but tells the tale from the perspective of Col. Adrian Shephard, one of the soldiers sent to clean up the scientists and their reality-altering mess. Just as in Half-Life, things quickly go badly for Colonel Shephard and his men. Ambushed by aliens, scattered and confused, Adrian must fight his way through the ruins of the facility in an attempt to reach a helicopter extraction point. Gameplay is similar to that of Half-Life: Adrian must collect weapons; get over, around, or through collapsed passages; fight aliens; and contend with the mysterious--and murderous--Black Ops agents.

All three games in Half-Life: Adrenaline Pack could easily stand alone on their own merits; being able to get them all in one package is a real treat. Half-Life will draw you in, Team Fortress Classic will keep you in multiplayer heaven for months, and Opposing Force will remind you just what makes the Half-Life game world so good. --Mike Fehlauer ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Adrenaline Pack
I think that this is probably the best pack out of all of them.Who care about Counter Strike. If you buy a pack that includes CS you are paying extra money for a game that you can download for free on the internet!

Any way.Half Life has a great story. You are Gordon Freeman, a scientist for the Black Mesa research facility.Then.It all goes wrong.Aliens are everywhere. If thats not enough, there are government grunt troopers coming in also. You think they are here to save you. They are not.

Now for Opposing Force. You are the grunt. You have crash landed at the black mesa facility after you chopper was shot down by an unknown .....craft.What the hell is going on?You must find your way past alien life forms so you can get out of this hell hole.At the same time your mission is to find Gordon Freeman.

There are so many mods for this game its unbeleivable. This game is a MUST BUY.If you don't own it, well......I dont know what to say.Multiplayer rocks, single player rocks, everything rocks.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Pack in the World!!
These games are great... great graphics, sound, and effects. I started to buy them separately... dumb thing to do this package is less expensive than buying them separately!!!!!!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars No wonder it was game of the year!
This will keep you glued to the computer screen. There's just something about this game that keeps your interest.Perhaps it's the feeling that you run threw one, continueous world. The fact that there is actually a storyline that you can fallow threw until the end.The "what will happen next" feeling really keeps you going in this game.Unlike it's other shoot-em-up counterparts (Quake, for instance), this will keep your interest because you aren't playing levels, your playing a world.

5-0 out of 5 stars You'll never stop playing this game
You wanna know how good this game is? I'll tell you. This game came out in 1998, which is eons ago in the gaming world, and I'm still playing it daily. I play Unreal Tournament and Rogue Spear fairly often, but given the choice, I'd pick this one (and its Team Fortress mod) in a heartbeat over the others. The single-player experience is cinematic, scary, intense and addictive. From the get go, you are immersed in the world of the game and you never want it to end. Although of course the game does end, it's not much of a problem because that's when you can just get online and play Team Fortress with others over the internet. The mod is such addictive fun that you'll have to be dragged kicking and screaming from it for food and sleep. It's THAT good....entertainment that keeps you coming back for such an extended length of time.

5-0 out of 5 stars This Game Rocks The House Down
When i bought this game I wasn't expecting it to be that great. I bought it cause of a friend who told me it would be good. When I played it it was awesome. The graphics were great. It was blood 'o' rama. (if you like that sort of thing , which i do) When you start out you are a player looking to save the world from villans who came from a test lab experiment. It is great but can be freaky (makes you jump) sometimes (when you play in the dark with headphones on fairly loud. I recommend playing like that.).But over all i gave this 5 stars because of the intense playing and the great graphics!!! ... Read more

Ground Control ignites the stagnant real-time strategygenre with magnificent 3-D visuals, dazzling special effects, andenthralling gameplay. The game eschews typical real-timestrategy conventions by forgoing resource collection completely.Instead, you're provided with a handful of troops--which you cancustom-select before eachsingle-player mission ormultiplayer game--and dropped on maps filled with rolling terrain and tightchokepoints.

Strategic unit placement takes priority over the size of an attackingforce. Placing units on elevations improves accuracy; concealing unitsin shadows make them harder to hit; and flanking heavily armored unitsis vital, since armor is usually weaker in the rear than in thefront.

Dozens of units are available, including different models of armoredpersonnel carriers, infantry, tanks, artillery, and aircraft. Mostfeature special weapons, such as mortars or grenade launchers, designedto take out specific units or structures. Despite the impressive visualand sound effects, Ground Control's arsenal of units tends toblend together, lacking distinction and personality. This is a minorgripe, though, against a game with such impressive visuals andgameplay.

Ground Control's intuitive control system complements its flashy3-D engine. Players can rotate and tilt the camera at any angle, from abird's-eye viewpoint far above the action to a trooper's-eye view inthe middle of a firefight. Important battle commands, such as unitformations and aggression levels, are seamlessly presented onscreen andare easily available for use.

Robust multiplayer features enable players to test their tactics overthe Internet or local area network against human opponents. Gamers canparticipate in deathmatch, free-for-all, and team play as well asunique games such as flagzones (gain control of particular territories)and--a first for the strategy genre--"drop-in" games where players canenter and leave active games at any time.

Massive Entertainment has created an impressive package. GroundControl's excellent single-player missions, accessible multiplayermodes, and topnotch gameplay make it one of the best strategy games ofthe year. --Doug Radcliffe

Pros:

  • Engaging spin on the real-time strategy genre
  • Breathtaking 3-D accelerated visuals; both terrain and units arecrisp and detailed
  • Intuitive camera system and control interface
  • Eschews resource gathering, a staple of real-time strategy, andemphasizes action and tactics

I no this isnt the place but i cant help it. I ordered this game 4 weeks ago, at first they said they lost it in mail, and ten their out of stock. I order it agin last week and it still sint here, but the demo rocks!

1-0 out of 5 stars F- for Amazon service
I waited 8 weeks for amazon to ship this title, the whole time the web site said 2-3 days - it was never in stock at all. Multiple phone calls multiple email and they still have not updated the web page. amazon gets lowest marks possible.

But good game...

5-0 out of 5 stars Underrated, But Awesome
One of the most underrated PC games there is, Ground Control is the fast-paced strategy game that takes out the focus on managing an economy and defending a base and puts emphasis on organized, squad-based warfare.WarCraft III emulates this game, but fails to do so in many respects.GC had WC3's graphics nearly 3 years before it did, boasted a much better camera control system and combat which outweighs anything in any other strategy game I've ever seen.In reality, comparing GC to most other strategy games is to compare apples with oranges, putting GC in a genre of its own.For the gamer who enjoys non-stop, visually impressive strategy with a unique game dynamic of its own, Ground Control is a must-have.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ground Control: Awesome
I loved the demo. I just had to get the real game, so I ordered it off of AMAZON for "a good price". I was amazed. Alright, so it's the end of the third world war and their are two sides, the Crayven corporation and the Religious order of the "new dawn" (sounds like something out od Delta Force Landwarrior) You start by playing the Crayven people. You step into the shoes, or should I say boots of Major Sarah Parker. You get to read a biography about her in the manual. The Crayvens have "Terradynes" (basically a tank with treads) and "Aerodynes" (planes.) The new dawn people have "Hoverdynes" or hover tanks and Aerodynes. The briefings on my part are not so good however. Even if I have a 1.7 gig computer and 256 mb of RAM, the talking doesn't work. For example, I was listening to a briefing and when Parker spoke I heard "At all costs?, At all costs?, At all costs?, the lines seem to repeat themselves! Anyway, that's just a precaution, the rest of the game rocks. There is no resource gathering or building. You command customizable squads and everything is 3-d. You can zoom and rotate around your units. For 9 bucks, it's a great game! Buy it on AMAZON today!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great action and strategy
This game is a great game that does NOT burden the player with the boring and typical resource collecting and technology trees of other games. In each scenario you have a certain number of units at a certain strength; you have some ability to repair damage, but once your men die, they are gone for the scenario, and in campaigns, have to be replaced by less experienced (effective) new units. This game was easy to learn, but hard to get really good at, which is another good point about it. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Stay engrossed for hours!!!!!
I also purchased Board Games and Card Games at or about the same time.Since I and my three other siblings were brought up on most of these games back in the 1950's, it is a big pleasure for me to play these games alone or against computer generated opposition.I can't cheat. . .this is wonderful. Also I love to redo a game in case I think I can make a higher score.I love the Facemaker option. So in between my boring daily chores I play Puzzle Games or one of the others. So far Word Yacht is my favorite. As a former English teacher it is a real challange!!!!

2-0 out of 5 stars Hoyle Puzzle Games 2003 - a disappointment
I have purchased all the Hoyle Collections (Board Games, Card Games, Word Games, Casino); and have found all of them to be superb...Have always said that Hoyle makes the best games. However, Puzzle Games falls far short of their usual efforts. Most games are boring, or a repetition of other packages (Anagrams, Crosswords, Hangman, Mahjonng). Not their best effort; and not what I was expecting from Hoyle.

1-0 out of 5 stars crashes on mac
iMacOS 9.2 256K real RAM. Have been using system 2 years, no problems.

This game is a `port'. I found parts of the 'games' which will not run on my Mac. Other parts simply cause crashes.

Although advertised as a `Mac' playable game I cannot recommend it for such.

Three kids [12- 14 yo] installed on Win XP home. Report games `boring' and unchallenging.

3-0 out of 5 stars Gets old quickly
Although Slide Tiles and Edge Tiles are different than the usual solitaire games, most of the games are pretty simplistic. The maze games, although intriguing, are awkward and frustratingto play on a computer keyboard. If you're looking for a mindless alternative to television, this is a good product. If you're looking for a challenging diversion, Microsoft's Pandora's Box is a much better buy.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Mixture of Games
I think it has great variety of games. It has some solitaire games. I don't know how to play solitaire but for those of us that do; it is a nice inclusion.I like the inclusion of the tile games. I was kind of unsure if I wanted to buy this cd because I wasn't thrilled with previous versions of tile matching by Hoyle. But here they added some new versions of tile matching games that require more strategy. They are less boring.
The Incredible Machine is a complete version of the game. It is a good game because you can experiment so much in trying to figure out the Puzzles. Unfortunately, there is a issue where the game wasn't retaining scores.
The Word puzzles are great. The Anagrams makes you think about how many words you can make from a series of letters. I liked Hangman because you can choose different scenes to play the game. There are crosswords as well.
There are some arcade-types of games. Some involve running around a maze; which is challenging with the various helpers and obstacles. Time breaker is fun as it is similar to break out. However depending on what is loosened from the wall; there are interesting effects on gameplay.
Star collector is challenging as it is about lining up pieces and capturing stars. I think it is one of the more harder of the games.
This game has something for everyone. It isn't boring. No one really seems to do these compilations as well as Hoyle. They seem to run well. And you don't need the Cd to play the game in your computer once installed. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

In this third incarnation of Sierra Studios' SWAT series, the designers have borrowed ideas from Red Storm's amazing Rainbow Six and Rogue Spear and molded SWAT 3 into a first-person, squad-based tactical game that combines tense action with crafty strategy.

SWAT 3: Close Quarters Battle boasts gorgeous 3-D graphics (a 3-D accelerator card is supported but not required), with lifelike characters and amazingly detailed real-world locations, such as the Los Angeles Convention Center and the LAX airport control tower.

Players assume command of a five-man L.A.P.D. SWAT team across 16 diverse missions. As Element Leader, you control nearly all aspects of the mission, which can include rescuing hostages to ambushing criminal suspects. Most mission decisions rely on split-second thinking. Should you order the suspect to drop his weapon or are you in imminent danger from the other suspect hiding in the room? SWAT 3's high-pressure environment creates an engaging and satisfying experience.

If you're looking for the chance to control an elite police force (thankfully, the computer-controlled artificial intelligence of both team members and suspects is topnotch), check out Sierra Studios' SWAT 3: Close Quarters Battle. --Doug Radcliffe ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!!
Though this game came out in 2000,it is still very fun to play.
The graphics is excellent, the sound effects also.

Basically,you are a S.W.A.T. team leader,and your objectives
may be anywhere from arresting suspects, rescuing hostages, finding dangerous bombs and weapons, and more.

The most enjoyable part of SWAT3,is the ability to tell you 5-manteam what to do,like "cover you","pick locks","clear bang and search" etc...

The ability to play over LAN in a real-person team effort, with AI team players,to solve mission is a big bonus.

4-0 out of 5 stars Sweeet Functionality
I have to say that this game would be one of the best PC games out there. Now, it is rated Mature, but it could stand a little more Juicing to live up to its rating. For instance, If you shoot a perp, its not to life like. You can however enable the NC17 option, but that really makes it Phoney looking. The blood doesn't look life like at all. It just kinda splatters around the dead perp. But, on the other hand, body movement, gunfire, grafX and game play are pretty intense. You find yourself cursing it out and playing it again and again. This one Rates high on my "Must have" list for all you gamers.

5-0 out of 5 stars "We have an element!"
This game took a long time to master because it is very hard. Unlike most games, this game does not give the player any way to recharge health or save games in the middle of a level. It has no way to get extra lives, either. The only unrealistic thing in this game is that when the red or blue team goes around a corner, they turn there back to the opening they are walking into instead of leaving their backs to the walls like all police do. I would also like to point out that of course the briefings aren't one hundred percent accurate. In real life, before going into a building, the police don't know exactly how many people are in the building. Also, of course there are many buttons that do different things. Without all these buttons, the player couldn't pick up guns or tell the backup groups what to do. This is a great game, but I wouldn't recommend it for kids under fourteen. My neighbor, who was under fourteen, started shooting his back up because he thought it was funny. Anyway, this is a very realistic and fun game!

5-0 out of 5 stars Sierra your the best
ive got this game 3 years ago and a still like it! heres the gameplay 1.guns are exccelnt but could have been more2. your team mates are very smart {sometimes}3. 4-0 out of 5 stars Not the best but still fun.
You get to control people in a 3D enviroment. There is only one camera veiw though, which sux. Other then that the game is cool especially the computer intelligence.

4-0 out of 5 stars dune is not pointless
every one i know say this game is crap but i think it is quite good because you dont offen get to command armys that are bigger than the base you origionally built!!! strategy games are my favorite types, like the command and conquer series which were ace and still are. You also have the opportunity to steal buildings and nick their technology.
i also enjoy battering the ai twats and putting their troops in a kind of death camp. oh yeah that reminds me i have tip to get rid of harvesters here it is:
(you need to be ordos team for this)
1) build a mcv and build it in a desolate area
2) build a repair pad next to it
3) buildset of conrete (the largest set)
4) then build missile turrets all the way round but leave one gap for an harvester to enter.
5) get a deviator and steal a ai harvester quickly get a carryall to send it to the repair pad near your 'death camp'
6) when it has arrived send it in to the middle of the turrets and close the gap with a wall so when it turns back it cant escape.
7) when it has been destroyed delete the wall and repeat the sequence over and over till they have no cash to buy with
Then launch a massive assault on their base

remember to keep the deviator safe from the enemy.

4-0 out of 5 stars If you liked Dune, You'll love Dune 2000
I fell in love with Dune for the ol' Sega.So when I saw Dune 2000 hidden in the back of some discount games I was browsing through, I impulse purchased.Dune 2000 ups the original, as to be expected. (It's not 16-bit anymore!) Better graphics, although not what one would expect, more scenerios, and some pretty neat video segways (even that proffesor from Sliders as the Atredies mentat!) are plusses. The menus can be daunting at first or when in a rush, however.I've spent many a late night plotting the downfall of each of the three houses. If you enjoyed Dune II, buy Dune 2000.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic
Dune 2000 is a very challanging game. I would recamend it to anyone who likes a challange.

4-0 out of 5 stars Solid and Fun
The Dune chronicles come alive on video?Well.... not really, but the game is solid and fun. This game is very similar to Command and Conquer with some improvements. As with C&C there is a story line to follow between missions which has some relavence to the books and worms will eat you troops. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Pinball !!!!
I only have the demo and I love it! I am surprised everytime I play it and it's to bad it has been removed from the market as it is the coolest pinball game I have played. You never really play the same game twice. Although the demo has point or time limits it does play over and over but after so many points cuts you off but still worth a try till you get the real thing which is what I am getting ready to do.

5-0 out of 5 stars Take a creepy pinball machine into your home..
and stuff it into your computer. This game is really creepy for those of yall wicked people out there. I am a real pinball fan and I now have the ability to have arcade fun in my own home. So what are you gonna do? Take the arcade into your home!

5-0 out of 5 stars Really love this game. I been playing it for years.
I have played other pinball games but after awhile they get boring. I play this game for hours and still don't want to quit. The only thing that would make it better for me anyway, would be to find a joystick or gamepad to use with it. I type all day and would love to be able to sit back and play without the keyboard.[...] But with or without it is a great game.shellady

5-0 out of 5 stars Creepy Fun!
This is scary and fun. There are ghosts, goblins, gargoyles, bats and zombies. That is the greatest part.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Non-Stop Pinball Creepshow!
Pinball fans will love 3-D Ultra Pinball: Creep Night, a classic pinball game with three main tables and a challenging (and hard to get to) bonus table. To 3-D Ultra Pinball, a fast-paced computer game that precisely simulates the action of real arcade pinball, Sierra has added a non-stop creepshow of multiple bonuses, surprises, hidden levels, moving targets, and reward animations. Action is simple, with left mouse button controlling left flippers and right mouse button controlling right flippers. Every game is a bit different than the last, and special features include rats and skeletons that you can smash with your balls, gargoyles that will pick them up and deposit them elsewhere on the table, and wraiths and vortexes that will eat them. A non-stop-fun pinball simulator. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Don't cry for me, SimCity. As the mayor--potentate, really--the entire future and design of the city is within your hands. A classic city-simulation game, the new version boasts scores of cool improvements, including more refined graphics.

The infrastructure of your new home is intense, and so are the tasks at hand: building roads, establishing water and power lines, providing civil protection through fire and police stations--and reviewing city finances to make sure all these things can happen. The realistic details in SimCity 3000 are what make it brilliant: an icon for "subway to rail connection" allows you to create a spot for your city residents to change trains on their daily commute.

The pleasing graphics offer color palates similar to a Diego Rivera painting or a Rockefeller Center mural. With an endless array of satisfying options and fascinating possibilities, a review of this edition requires almost ridiculous hyperbole and praise. A great way to get lost in careful consideration for days on end, SimCity 3000 is simply the best game of its type. --Jennifer Buckendorff ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One Word: Awesome
This is the kind of game that makes you want to keep playing for the rest of your life. You start out with the basics, a few zones, a power plant, and eventually some development. There really are infinite choices to build a city with. It is just so dang addictive! This game will consume your soul! Mwa,ha,ha,ha.
Okay just kidding. Well, anyway if you like city building pick this game up, you'll thank me.

5-0 out of 5 stars very good and perhaps better than SC2000
I found this to be a delightful game. I played it the most on my mother's old HP Celeron 466 with only a small video card so sometimes it ran slowly. On today's computer's I'm sure it won't be a problem though. I loved the older version--Sim City 2000--and this seemed to improve on that (other than the need for a fast computer) and it struck a good balance between being realistic and being too complicated.

I suspect you will really like it and you will be happy you bought it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy it!!!!!!!
This is the on of the colest games in history! You are the mayor of a city. You have to think about ploution a lot.It is cool

4-0 out of 5 stars Awesome game, but SC3U is out too...
SimCity 3000 is great, but there is no reason to buy this game since SimCity 3000 Unlimited is out. I have both versions of SC3000, and SC3000 Unlimited has everything this regular version does, but with many more features included like the Building Architect Plus, Scenario Creator, and many new in-game features. So, if you are thinking of getting this game, go with SC3000 Unlimited. It is just the same game, but with many new features.

5-0 out of 5 stars A GAME FOR PEOPLE WHO LIKE POWER!!!
Welcome to SimCity 3000. In this cool adventure, you must build proper facilities, public services, and everything to make a city thrive! Make deals with neighbor cities!Fight your garbage problems!!!

This is a cool game where you start from scratch(with $50,000 or less money) to make a huge city that has skyrocketing income and a perfect population.

I love SimCity. But the only problem is it freezes to much on my Microsoft ME, so I'd reccomend using a different type. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Boring after a few minutes!!!!
I bought the nascar pinball game so I could have all five of the sierra pinball games. I was very disappointed in it. It's very boring after a few minutes and not even near as good as any of the other four games. The best one out of the 3-D sierra pinball games is Creepnight the second pinball game.

3-0 out of 5 stars Creative, but very limited.
Although the tables are very creative, and the graphics are very good, it can be very limited, and sometimes difficult at some points.

The main table (Speedway) is basically the same thing for every track, the only thing that changes is the track logos on the position tower change to the track that you're playing, or "racing", on.

I was always a pinball fanatic since I was young, and I was not too pleased with it.

The movements are basically the same thing every time. There isn't much variety at all.

And I also think that 3-D Ultra Nascar Pinball is sometimes too difficult, and can really get on your nerves and can also be very annoying.

3-D Ultra Nascar Pinball has creative tables and very good graphics, but the gameplay is below average. In the end, I just wouldn't buy it. It just isn't worth it what it comes with.

2-0 out of 5 stars Nascar Pinball
Being a pinball fanatic I found this one of little challenge. The same movements for the ball over and over again. Very limited.Maybe interesting to a small child for a limited time.Could not hold your interest for any extended time period.

4-0 out of 5 stars What a game!

Amazon.com Review

Everything that made the original Diablo great--nonstop action, wicked monsters, dark Gothic atmosphere, and fantastic magic items--has returned. But new enhancements such as the class skill system and cheater-proof multiplayer competition make Diablo 2 even better than the original.

The millions of gamers who fought their way through the horror of Tristram's catacombs in the original Diablo realized that all was not well after their hero destroyed the demon's physical body. Diablo 2 opens with a vivid animated vision of that mad, doomed hero, who unwittingly spreads chaos as he moves toward a fate of Diablo's choosing. With the original character classes gone, players choose from a new cadre of champions: the Barbarian (can wield two two-handed swords at once, one in each hand), the Necromancer (raises the dead to fight his battles), the Amazon (master of bow and spear), Paladin (holy crusader), and Sorceress (wielder of elemental magic). These warriors follow a diabolical plot through four acts, and each act is roughly as big as the original Diablo.

Diablo 2 looks and behaves very much like Diablo. Players are assigned quests by nonplayer characters and adventure through dark catacombs and crypts. Hordes of vile monsters assail the hero, who survives by force of arms, powerful spells, and through the use of varied and exotic magic items. Randomly generated dungeons guarantee fresh adventure each time a new game is started. But unlike the original game, characters must fight their way through the above-ground wilderness before entering a dungeon. Fortunately, some of the frustrations of adventuring have been lessened in Diablo 2, thanks to the new ability to run and the clever implementation of "waypoints" that let your character quickly travel to and from the safety of town.

Along with the new character classes comes a new character skill system. As in the original game, players improve their character's ability scores as they kill monsters and gain experience. But unlike the original game, players get to add specific skills, spells, and powers each time they advance. For example, after gaining a level you could choose between taking a skill that improves your attack speed or a skill that allows you to scatter your foes with a mighty shout. With this customized advancement system it is unlikely that two high-level characters, even characters of the same class, will be alike. Instead of progressing along a set path, you can choose skills and powers that complement your own particular playing style. Interestingly, this new customizable class system closely parallels the changes made in the new edition of Dungeons & Dragons.

Other enhancements include a method for creating and customizing magic items, 3-D accelerated spell effects, anticheat multiplayer code, and a place to safely store excess money and equipment. But even without these tweaks, even without the sophisticated story line and all the cool new features, Diablo 2 is just a great game. The sound, music, and graphics combine to create a tantalizingly eerie setting. Players will willingly let their game-playing hours slip well past reasonable bedtimes, suffering bleary-eyed classes and meetings in exchange for "just one more" magic item, dungeon level, or character skill.

Diablo is back. Say hello to the game that will once again dominate gamers' computers, and say good-bye to your free time. --Michael Fehlauer.

Pros:

  • Diabolical, engrossing story line told through brilliant cutscenes
  • All five of the new classes are distinct and fun
  • Fantastic music and sound effects
  • Random dungeons allow unlimited replayability
  • Millions of magic items, including rare items and sets of unique magical equipment
Cons:
  • Addictive gameplay may cause loss of sleep, significant other, job
  • Virtually no improvement in graphics

3-0 out of 5 stars A real unbiased review
I am a Blizzard fan, I have bought many of the previous games that the company released like Starcraft and Warcraft 2, both of which are not only some of the best games I have ever played, but in the case of Starcraft, the single best game I have ever played and a game which I probably have played more than any other game.So I had high expectations of Diablo 2.

Diablo 2 feature pretty impressive sound, good multiplayer, and is a mildly fun game. The only real problem though, ends up being the downfall of the whole game.Diablo 2 doesn't have a real good story and is almost totally linear, not involving many tasks that are not part of the storyline. Now a lot of times this is not a problem. However, in Diablo 2, it's linear nature is a huge problem because of the pedantic gameplay. The gamplay is fun for a couple hours, but by the time you reach act 3, you will be totally sick of just hacking through millions of monsters at every turn, and i'm not kidding, there are monsters everywhere in this game. Now the game being linear, there is nothing to take away from the boredom and frustration of fighting millions of monsters.

After I beat this game I decided to check out the game on the internet, as this is usually where blizzard games shine.Unfortunately, in Diablo 2, there is no real difference between the internet gameplay and the single player gameplay. On the internet, you and other players are stuck in games of about 8 people, where the mission is to journey through the 4 stages of the first person game. That was a major shock to me, as I thought that if blizzard had made the multiplayer game include new maps and more pvp combat with allies against allies and goals to accomplish it would make up for the bad single player experience.Unfortunately blizzard did not do this, and I gave up playing the game totally because after playing the levels on the internet with a new character i had to level up from the beggining, I realized that it was more of a chore than fun.

In the end I can say only a couple good things about this game: one the cinema scenes are spectacular, and two the multiplayer network is so solid from years of hosting diablo and starcraft that even though i did not like playing the game, i would play every once in awhile by getting sucked in through talking with people in the battlenet chat boards.

If this isn't your opinion, fine, but I have been fair in this review to the best of my abilities.

5-0 out of 5 stars Diablo 2 is better then many reviewers think.
I'm sorry, but I can't stand seeing all these, "Corrupted Reviewers", make this game sound like it's not worth buying.

My friend thought Diablo 2 was stupid, then he played it. He was hooked.

"Why does this 9'2 550 pound guy pop like a water ballon filled with red paint?" Because he's a Super Unique monster, and he's not 9'2, 550 pounds. How many RPGs are there that are like real life? Is it bad for an RPG to not be like real life?

You "reviewers", as you like to call yourselves, don't know Pong from Quake 3. I am not saying I am the best reviewer, I'm saying I am putting up the truth:

If Diablo 2 is so bad, why have so many people bought it? After years of it being out, why do I go on the internet, and see like 500 games hosted, if this game is so bad? Why has Diablo 2 sold over a million copys, if it is so bad?

As I saw in the review most of this review is built off of, everything is corrupted, and thats a "bad" thing. Do you pay attention to the story? "Yeah yeah, the forces of evil are comming to the earth... Why is everything corrupted? There's only Diablo, the Lord of Terror, and his brothers walking the earth - why is everything corrupted???"

"Why do a swarm of bugs have a certain name, and why do they drop items?" What are RPGs? Do you want to attack a swarm of (blank), and after killing it not get anything? "and how do you kill them with a sword?" You want un-killable corrupted bugs attacking you that you can't attack back? I think you would hate this game alot more if it was like that. What else would you do? Spray them with bug spray? I'm sorry, that's too much real life in games.

If you want the game to be so real, too bad. A Real Life game wouldn't be as great as you think. Do you want to do all the hard work you have to do every day in a game? Games have work to be done, but having to do what you do in real life is going too far. That is why The Sims you don't tell your Sims what to do while they are at work - who to take the papers to, what to write down - the game only get's so real - they are making The Sims 2, but they aren't improving it so much that it will be too real.

5-0 out of 5 stars Diablo came to Mac

Party on!

I haven't played "House Party" that much yet.It was a hassle trying to install this game.I had to send the game disc to Aspyr to get me a new version because it wouldn't install.

Last night, I spent around 6 hours building a new house with House Party. In this game, you get 100+ new objects, larger variety of floors and walls, new characters and skins, and 3 new neighborhoods (8 in total (80 lots)).With how much I've played, I like it.A new staircase in HP is a teleporter that teleports you to the second or first floor. It's cool.Another cool thing about The Sims is that you can add your own mp3s to the game, so then your sims can "rock [their] body" to the "music."

4-0 out of 5 stars Sims gone wild!!!
The sims is a great gamebut with x-packs(Like house party) it's better.House party has many new features for example the regular things like wall paper, floor tiles ,and new fences. But they have some uncommen things such as a recycled pay phone(garenteed to be disease and germ free)There is also light up dance floors and a hula girl lamp that really hulas! You can also call your niehbours(If you have niehbours) and have a house party(duh!) You can style your house to be a hawien louaw or even a texan roadio complete with a mechical bull! There is all so a visiting mime(much like the sad clown in livin' large)and special celeberty guest Drew Carry. Oh yeah I almost forgot, speaking of Livin' Large you should istall it before House party and House Party before Hot Date. Because alone they are good but together they are better. I like house party because it lets you go out ,get down ,and be crazy with the Sims!
Ihope my review was helpful and now that you are done reading it go on and buy house party for mac.

This game is a whole lot of fun. It adds a lot more to the other 2 Sims games. It gives you something else to make your Sims do. Without this game, the Sims would not be the same for me. It did make my computer a tad slower but not anything that greatly impacted my gameplay. I think this game is a must if you have the Sims. I STRONGLY recommend having any of the 4 expansion packs for the Sims because otherwise it is not as fun. I am sure you would like this game if you liek the Sims!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Not Bad, but Not Good Either
Shivers 2: Harvest of Souls is a great game. It's got a unique plot about rescuing your rock star friends, and has got a while-you're-at-it-save-the-barber-as-well attitude. I played this 2 years back, but what I can recall is I got off to a good start. I was a bit reluctant to turn at corners and step into a building for it supposedly comes under Horror, but it's only eerie, nothing out of the ordinary.

To help your friends escape who have been taken as hostages by some raving lunatic part of this sleepy village (or whatever), where the game begins, you need to solve puzzles which give you further clues to their whereabouts. I don't know about that part, I didn't believe it at first: One look at the jazzy cover, and the main objective to solve puzzles didn't sound right, but it was. I completely gave up on the game then. I did try though, but it was too time consuming and a bit frustrating, so a window of walkthroughs was usually open when I played the game. The first clues are the music videos on the television sets found in the rooms in this Cyclone motel where the band was staying in. It gets pretty complicated later on, moving back and forth, listening to telephone messages, reading scraps of paper with scribbles and doodles on them and ah yeah, solving puzzles. This game is basically point-and-click. There are no other ways to interact at all.

I wouldn't say much about the graphics, but I'll give it credit considering it's an old game. The sound effects are amazing, it really sets the mood, and the music videos are pretty realistic. This game has some sudden scenes and can take you aback, in which they succeeded in doing to me. I could mention examples, but I wouldn't want to ruin it.

This is probably a typical Sierra game, thinking along the lines of King's Quest and it's many sequels. I recommend Shivers 2, but it involves patience.

5-0 out of 5 stars Loved it!!!!!!!!
I loved this game. The music goes get a little old after a while, but personally, I hate having to go back and back and back just to ask people questions. This game lets you move in a much more personalized pace.

The puzzles were pretty hard, especially the barber shop. But after a lot of trial and error, you eventually get it!

GET THE 1st ONE TOO!!!!!!!!!

The first one was AWESOME! I think it was better then this one, but this one was really fun too! The ending could, as in most games, have been a little better but it was still a good game!

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy This Game!!!
This game is the best game i'v ever played! When the first one came out i bought it and i haven't beaten it until a day or two ago. Then i heard there was a "sequel" (even though this had nothing to do with the first one but who said it had to) and i knew i had to try it.I did and beat it.I loved it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Like a Fungus
This isn't the best game ever made, and has a couple of parts that are EXTREMELY annoying, but it grows on you.I bought a copy, sold it, realized I still wanted it a dn had to buy iy back.

4-0 out of 5 stars A decent adventure/puzzle game with a great soundtrack
Shivers 2, falling squarely in the family of point-and-click adventure/puzzle games, is a somewhat flawed but enjoyable, very challenging, and immersive journey. The premise of the game is that your friends, a rock band, went to a little town in the middle of nowhere to film a music video (after they earn enough money to pick up the tab, that is).. You go to visit them and find the town to be more or less deserted with the exception of a female ghost popping up now and then and some wacko running around in a stupid mask (i.e. your nemesis for this little adventure). The goal is simple: save your friends from the wacko. How do you go about that? The same as most games of its type...explore the town and solve a bunch of puzzles.

The gameplay is basically point-and-click. You look at objects. You explore areas. You solve a lot of puzzles (mostly of the extremely difficult brain teaser variety rather than the "find this item and use it here" type). Why anyone would lock their door with some horribly difficult puzzle that takes half an hour to solve is beyond me, but it's all part of the game. An extra bit worth noting is that the game actually allows you to watch music videos by your friends on television sets. The band, in all their infinite wisdom, decided to play detective and place clues to various puzzles in their music videos (haven't I seen this cartoon?). Not only are the music videos enjoyable to watch, but piecing together solutions to the clues with them and various other hints around town adds a bit of immersiveness to the game. Another touch of immersiveness comes from the fact that throughout the game, you yourself are playing detective. You actually search for personal info about the various people of the town and get to know them and study their interactions in an attempt to get to the bottom of the mystery and figure out the identity of the wacko in the stupid mask who may or may not be behind everything. It's not an easy task, though.. You'll likely need a notebook (and possibly a walkthrough) by your side and a significant amount of time to solve all of the puzzles and the mystery (although you can cheat and have the puzzles solve themselves at the cost of some points in your score)..

As for graphics, this game is a bit dated. It's over 5 years old, afterall. You have low resolution graphics, with the main game screen being displayed as a small box in the middle of your monitor. Still, they're sufficient enough that they don't take away much from the game. Also, the members of the band and their appearances and personalities actually fit their music and vibe perfectly (and the music videos actually look like music videos), so kudos to the development team for creating both visual and emotional character realism.

The sound is spectacular. The occasional background tunes and ambient sound are well done, and the rock music that appears in the music videos by your friends is amazing (and also included in audio CD format on the second disc!). I found myself watching the videos several times just for the music, and actually repeatedly listening to the soundtrack CD portion of the 2nd disc when not playing the game.

Now onto the major flaws of the game. The main flaw is that it's not scary at all. "Shivers" is quite the misnomer. While it does involve the supernatural, it's more of a mystery than a horror game. The second flaw is that the 2nd disc was somewhat buggy. It was perfectly playable until I reached one timed puzzle that repeatedly flew by in a fraction of the time it was supposed to take. The company didn't have a solution to the problem, and I ended up copying the answer from a walkthrough just so I could barely make it through the puzzle before time ran out.

Shivers 2 is an enjoyable and immersive game for those on a budget, especially those looking for a more thought-provoking puzzle/mystery-oriented experience. You'll find challenging gameplay and a bonus soundtrack of great music. Not bad at all for the price.. ... Read more

This game is so awsome! It has real awsome scenes and cool bikes.I am a girl who is a gigant fan of Motocross and Supercross. And this game is worth the money!...

5-0 out of 5 stars Better Than Motocross Madness 2!
Although the shell art leaves a lot to be desired and there aren't half as many bells and whistles as Motocross Madness 2 as well as multiplayer gaming on WON isn't near as nice as "The Zone"....the physics tothis game kills Motocross Madness 2!

4-0 out of 5 stars This game rocks!
I bought this game to compare it to Motocross Madness. The graphics are awesome and the tricks you can do while riding are insane. This game is worth the money. The only down fall is that the physics of the motorcyclewhile riding are unrealistic. The bike is hard to control. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

NASCAR fans, start your engines! NASCAR 3, the successor to the extremely popular NASCAR 1999, improves the series with better physics, seriously improved graphics, and more realistic tracks than ever before.

We really like the improvements that have been made to the game's special effects, available for those of us with 3-D accelerator cards. The smoke and dust effects are particularly convincing compared to those of the previous version. Audio is also much improved, and gamers with 3-D audio cards can enjoy some eerily realistic surround sound effects. It's possible to tell where another car is in relation to you simply by listening closely.

Novices can turn down many of the simulation's realism options and basically transform the simulation into an arcade game, but seasoned racers are still free to roll up their sleeves and modify virtually every aspect of their cars. From the amount of duct tape to put on the grille, to infinitesimally small changes in the stagger of the tires, if you can do it in real life you can probably do it in the game.

Races take place on a variety of familiar tracks. Darlington, Talladega, the Milwaukee Mile, Sears Point, Watkins Glen, and 23 other familiar ovals and road courses are rendered in superb detail. The excellent manual outlines the history of each venue and provides tips for car setups so beginners can get started right away. If people have ever told you that NASCAR racing is boring because all you have to do is turn left, put them behind the wheel of NASCAR 3 so they can see firsthand what it's really all about. --T. Byrl Baker

Pros:

  • Believable physics model
  • Crisp 3-D accelerated graphics
  • Convincing 3-D sound effects
  • Many tracks and lots of tweaking options for nearly infinite replayability
Cons:
  • Physics model wasn't completely overhauled as was expected
  • Graphics are clean but not incredibly detailed

3-0 out of 5 stars not good enough
This is a game with tracks too long and graphics which are too boring.

4-0 out of 5 stars Best Nascar game yet
Nascar Racing 3 is a very good simulation of Nascar Racing. Very highly detailed tracks to very real engine sounds. You are able to go into the pit and select right side tires, left sides tires, repair damage, etc. But there is one problem with the AI in the game. The AI is not very realistic. For instance, if I were going around the outside of somebody in a turn they would probably drift up and hit me. Over it is a classic so I recommend you purchase it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Fun for about 1 month
This game reminds me of many toys that looked so fun when I was a kid, but when I got them the fun wore off about as fast as the flavor of chewing gum. At first it's fun to experience the feel of navigating around the Nascar tracks and finding the best racing line.Naturally, once you feel you can handle a car reasonably well, you'll want to race. This is where too many programming flaws render the game unenjoyable. The first main difficulty is that it's extremely difficult to judge, even with 3-D graphics, just how close objects are to your car. This difficulty will make ineffective any effort to find a competitive edge by pushing your car to the limit. You will invariably scrape walls and hit other cars, without improving judgement.Likewise, your pit stall is poorly marked, leaving another guessing game as to when to stop. A second major problem is that incorrect and often conflicting information provided by the crew chief and spotter frequently occur. For example, under yellow flag conditions you are told which car to stay behind, although you may hear two or three car numbers in one lap.Additionally, it is often impossible to find the car you are told to stay behind, even when you completely stop and wait for it.Yet, if you do stop and wait, cars that should stay behind you won't.The kicker is that you will receive a black flag penalty for not finding your correct spot in line. These and other problems add up eventually, and you may find yourself more annoyed then amused.I've now owned the product for about a year, and find no more pleasure in playing it.Adding in the cost of the obligatory 'joystick' wheel, this was an expensive lesson learned.

5-0 out of 5 stars This game brings out the kid in you
This game is designed around realism that the true Nascar fan, and driver are looking for. It's vast amount of options give each skill level a challenge.WARNING:This game is addicting.

Right away, you're going to feel like you're actually on the track. The 3D affects are very good, and the graphics are awesome.Don't consider buying the game though, unless you're going to also purchase a steering wheel, and pedals (sold seperately).

Like any game on the market, there are room for some minor improvements, but don't let that stop you from experiencing the thrill of competing against others on the track. If you feel the need for speed, then this is the game for you. This is definately 5 star fun !

1-0 out of 5 stars big let down
this game is a huge let down.you can't control your car on any of the tracks.Setting up your car is so difficult unless you really know alot about setting a car up. ... Read more

NASCAR Legends returns players to the racing season of 1970 by including many of the legendary cars, drivers, and racetracks from that 48-race season. Aspiring drivers race against such NASCAR icons as Richard Petty, Cale Yarborough, and Bobby Allison. Sixteen accurately rendered tracks are offered; plan to race on the Darlington Raceway, Texas World Speedway, and Alabama International Motor Speedway, among others.

NASCAR Legends was made with hard-core motor purists in mind. Inside each prerace garage, drivers can tweak such car characteristics as tire pressure, suspension, gear ratios, and screw jacks. Gamers looking for an arcade racing game like Need for Speed need not apply; NASCAR Legends's rigorous dedication to statistics offers a complex, yet rewarding gaming experience. For optimum performance, use a Direct3D-based accelerator card to achieve crisp graphics and smooth frame rates, and a steering controller to master the tough turns. --Doug Radcliffe

Pros:

  • Realistic driving model
  • Faithful reproduction of famous cars and tracks
  • Great force-feedback support
Con:
  • Weak sound
