Amazon.com Review Players are able to customize their high-tech warrior to suit individual play styles: snipers will go with light armor, extra battery pack, and a laser rifle; fans of less-subtle tactics will grab heavy armor, a mortar, plasma gun, and shield pack to create a walking tank. This level of customization adds an unusual amount of depth for a game in the first-person shooter genre, and it's fun to mix up gear choices in order to react to battlefield conditions. And oh, what a beautiful battlefield it is. Players begin the game within their home base, but once free of those crowded halls, a limitless vista greets the eyes. Rolling hills, snow-covered peaks, and eerie moonscapes provide a stunning backdrop to the action as players zoom around with jetpacks. Outposts, towers, and weapon emplacements provide strategic objectives and sniping platforms; hovercraft and personnel carriers allow quick transport and airborne assaults. Blasting your way across the world of Tribes is fun, but it's not the only gameplay option. Less action-oriented gamers can assume the role of Commander and issue orders to teammates. The Commander is especially useful during matches that require intricate teamwork, such as capture the flag, capture and hold, and defend and destroy. --Mike Fehlauer Pros: Reviews (49)

Amazon.com Review Half-Life quietly debuted in late 1998, and the gaming community was forever changed. Instantly soaring to bestseller status, the groundbreaking title eventually earned over 50 Game of the Year awards. The combination of an intriguing, well-paced plot, smooth graphics, cunning enemy AI (artificial intelligence), brilliant level design, and revolutionary in-game scripted events make Half-Life an unforgettable gaming experience. You play as Gordon Freeman, a mild-mannered scientist assigned to handle hazardous materials in the government-funded Black Mesa Research Facility. Something goes wrong--horribly wrong--with one of the more exotic experiments, and Gordon must try to escape. Along the way, he has to try to rescue his fellow scientists, master the use of conventional and not-so-conventional weapons, avoid or kill bizarre alien monstrosities, and learn the true nature of the research at Black Mesa. Team Fortress Classic is a multiplayer-only action game that uses the Half-Life game engine and interface. Ease of use and pulse-pounding game play have made TFC one of the most popular action games on the Net. Finding and connecting to games is a quick and painless process; once connected, any gamer will quickly feel at home. Players choose a character class from such World War II movie favorites as Scout, Pyro, Soldier, Engineer, Medic, Spy, Sniper, or Heavy Weapons Guy. The class determines your health, armor, speed, available weapons, and special ability. Special abilities range from the Medic's ability to heal comrades and poison foes to the Spy's ability to assume the guise of any other class. It's the teamwork that makes TFC so much fun. Each player is a member of a team and must work with the other team members to accomplish the goals, of capturing the flag, base defense, or planning to kill the enemy VIP. An effective team includes a good mix of character classes and a leader of the team's efforts. The person in charge might assign a sniper to cover a large expanse of open ground or tell a team to take out an enemy bunker. The maps included with TFC emphasize team-based play, and the surprisingly productive Half-Life/TFC player community constantly produces new maps and modifications. Opposing Force returns the player to the Black Mesa facility, but tells the tale from the perspective of Col. Adrian Shephard, one of the soldiers sent to clean up the scientists and their reality-altering mess. Just as in Half-Life, things quickly go badly for Colonel Shephard and his men. Ambushed by aliens, scattered and confused, Adrian must fight his way through the ruins of the facility in an attempt to reach a helicopter extraction point. Gameplay is similar to that of Half-Life: Adrian must collect weapons; get over, around, or through collapsed passages; fight aliens; and contend with the mysterious--and murderous--Black Ops agents. All three games in Half-Life: Adrenaline Pack could easily stand alone on their own merits; being able to get them all in one package is a real treat. Half-Life will draw you in, Team Fortress Classic will keep you in multiplayer heaven for months, and Opposing Force will remind you just what makes the Half-Life game world so good. --Mike Fehlauer Reviews (21)
Any way.Half Life has a great story. You are Gordon Freeman, a scientist for the Black Mesa research facility.Then.It all goes wrong.Aliens are everywhere. If thats not enough, there are government grunt troopers coming in also. You think they are here to save you. They are not. Now for Opposing Force. You are the grunt. You have crash landed at the black mesa facility after you chopper was shot down by an unknown .....craft.What the hell is going on?You must find your way past alien life forms so you can get out of this hell hole.At the same time your mission is to find Gordon Freeman. There are so many mods for this game its unbeleivable. This game is a MUST BUY.If you don't own it, well......I dont know what to say.Multiplayer rocks, single player rocks, everything rocks.

Amazon.com Review Strategic unit placement takes priority over the size of an attackingforce. Placing units on elevations improves accuracy; concealing unitsin shadows make them harder to hit; and flanking heavily armored unitsis vital, since armor is usually weaker in the rear than in thefront. Dozens of units are available, including different models of armoredpersonnel carriers, infantry, tanks, artillery, and aircraft. Mostfeature special weapons, such as mortars or grenade launchers, designedto take out specific units or structures. Despite the impressive visualand sound effects, Ground Control's arsenal of units tends toblend together, lacking distinction and personality. This is a minorgripe, though, against a game with such impressive visuals andgameplay. Ground Control's intuitive control system complements its flashy3-D engine. Players can rotate and tilt the camera at any angle, from abird's-eye viewpoint far above the action to a trooper's-eye view inthe middle of a firefight. Important battle commands, such as unitformations and aggression levels, are seamlessly presented onscreen andare easily available for use. Robust multiplayer features enable players to test their tactics overthe Internet or local area network against human opponents. Gamers canparticipate in deathmatch, free-for-all, and team play as well asunique games such as flagzones (gain control of particular territories)and--a first for the strategy genre--"drop-in" games where players canenter and leave active games at any time. Massive Entertainment has created an impressive package. GroundControl's excellent single-player missions, accessible multiplayermodes, and topnotch gameplay make it one of the best strategy games ofthe year. --Doug Radcliffe Pros: Features Reviews (56)

Amazon.com Review SWAT 3: Close Quarters Battle boasts gorgeous 3-D graphics (a 3-D accelerator card is supported but not required), with lifelike characters and amazingly detailed real-world locations, such as the Los Angeles Convention Center and the LAX airport control tower. Players assume command of a five-man L.A.P.D. SWAT team across 16 diverse missions. As Element Leader, you control nearly all aspects of the mission, which can include rescuing hostages to ambushing criminal suspects. Most mission decisions rely on split-second thinking. Should you order the suspect to drop his weapon or are you in imminent danger from the other suspect hiding in the room? SWAT 3's high-pressure environment creates an engaging and satisfying experience. If you're looking for the chance to control an elite police force (thankfully, the computer-controlled artificial intelligence of both team members and suspects is topnotch), check out Sierra Studios' SWAT 3: Close Quarters Battle. --Doug Radcliffe Reviews (40)
Basically, you are a S.W.A.T. team leader, and your objectives The most enjoyable part of SWAT3,is the ability to tell you 5-manteam what to do,like "cover you","pick locks","clear bang and search" etc... The ability to play over LAN in a real-person team effort, with AI team players,to solve mission is a big bonus.

Amazon.com Review The infrastructure of your new home is intense, and so are the tasks at hand: building roads, establishing water and power lines, providing civil protection through fire and police stations--and reviewing city finances to make sure all these things can happen. The realistic details in SimCity 3000 are what make it brilliant: an icon for "subway to rail connection" allows you to create a spot for your city residents to change trains on their daily commute. The pleasing graphics offer color palates similar to a Diego Rivera painting or a Rockefeller Center mural. With an endless array of satisfying options and fascinating possibilities, a review of this edition requires almost ridiculous hyperbole and praise. A great way to get lost in careful consideration for days on end, SimCity 3000 is simply the best game of its type. --Jennifer Buckendorff Reviews (127)

This is a cool game where you start from scratch(with $50,000 or less money) to make a huge city that has skyrocketing income and a perfect population. I love SimCity. But the only problem is it freezes to much on my Microsoft ME, so I'd reccomend using a different type. ... Read more

The main table (Speedway) is basically the same thing for every track, the only thing that changes is the track logos on the position tower change to the track that you're playing, or "racing", on. I was always a pinball fanatic since I was young, and I was not too pleased with it. The movements are basically the same thing every time. There isn't much variety at all. And I also think that 3-D Ultra Nascar Pinball is sometimes too difficult, and can really get on your nerves and can also be very annoying. 3-D Ultra Nascar Pinball has creative tables and very good graphics, but the gameplay is below average. In the end, I just wouldn't buy it. It just isn't worth it what it comes with.

Amazon.com Review The millions of gamers who fought their way through the horror of Tristram's catacombs in the original Diablo realized that all was not well after their hero destroyed the demon's physical body. Diablo 2 opens with a vivid animated vision of that mad, doomed hero, who unwittingly spreads chaos as he moves toward a fate of Diablo's choosing. With the original character classes gone, players choose from a new cadre of champions: the Barbarian (can wield two two-handed swords at once, one in each hand), the Necromancer (raises the dead to fight his battles), the Amazon (master of bow and spear), Paladin (holy crusader), and Sorceress (wielder of elemental magic). These warriors follow a diabolical plot through four acts, and each act is roughly as big as the original Diablo. Diablo 2 looks and behaves very much like Diablo. Players are assigned quests by nonplayer characters and adventure through dark catacombs and crypts. Hordes of vile monsters assail the hero, who survives by force of arms, powerful spells, and through the use of varied and exotic magic items. Randomly generated dungeons guarantee fresh adventure each time a new game is started. But unlike the original game, characters must fight their way through the above-ground wilderness before entering a dungeon. Fortunately, some of the frustrations of adventuring have been lessened in Diablo 2, thanks to the new ability to run and the clever implementation of "waypoints" that let your character quickly travel to and from the safety of town. Along with the new character classes comes a new character skill system. As in the original game, players improve their character's ability scores as they kill monsters and gain experience. But unlike the original game, players get to add specific skills, spells, and powers each time they advance. For example, after gaining a level you could choose between taking a skill that improves your attack speed or a skill that allows you to scatter your foes with a mighty shout. With this customized advancement system it is unlikely that two high-level characters, even characters of the same class, will be alike. Instead of progressing along a set path, you can choose skills and powers that complement your own particular playing style. Interestingly, this new customizable class system closely parallels the changes made in the new edition of Dungeons & Dragons. Other enhancements include a method for creating and customizing magic items, 3-D accelerated spell effects, anticheat multiplayer code, and a place to safely store excess money and equipment. But even without these tweaks, even without the sophisticated story line and all the cool new features, Diablo 2 is just a great game. The sound, music, and graphics combine to create a tantalizingly eerie setting. Players will willingly let their game-playing hours slip well past reasonable bedtimes, suffering bleary-eyed classes and meetings in exchange for "just one more" magic item, dungeon level, or character skill. Diablo is back. Say hello to the game that will once again dominate gamers' computers, and say good-bye to your free time. --Michael Fehlauer. Pros: Reviews (41)
My friend thought Diablo 2 was stupid, then he played it. He was hooked. "Why does this 9'2 550 pound guy pop like a water ballon filled with red paint?" Because he's a Super Unique monster, and he's not 9'2, 550 pounds. How many RPGs are there that are like real life? Is it bad for an RPG to not be like real life? You "reviewers", as you like to call yourselves, don't know Pong from Quake 3. I am not saying I am the best reviewer, I'm saying I am putting up the truth: If Diablo 2 is so bad, why have so many people bought it? After years of it being out, why do I go on the internet, and see like 500 games hosted, if this game is so bad? Why has Diablo 2 sold over a million copys, if it is so bad? As I saw in the review most of this review is built off of, everything is corrupted, and thats a "bad" thing. Do you pay attention to the story? "Yeah yeah, the forces of evil are comming to the earth... Why is everything corrupted? There's only Diablo, the Lord of Terror, and his brothers walking the earth - why is everything corrupted???" "Why do a swarm of bugs have a certain name, and why do they drop items?" What are RPGs? Do you want to attack a swarm of (blank), and after killing it not get anything? "and how do you kill them with a sword?" You want un-killable corrupted bugs attacking you that you can't attack back? I think you would hate this game alot more if it was like that. What else would you do? Spray them with bug spray? I'm sorry, that's too much real life in games. If you want the game to be so real, too bad. A Real Life game wouldn't be as great as you think. Do you want to do all the hard work you have to do every day in a game? Games have work to be done, but having to do what you do in real life is going too far. That is why The Sims you don't tell your Sims what to do while they are at work - who to take the papers to, what to write down - the game only get's so real - they are making The Sims 2, but they aren't improving it so much that it will be too real.
I BOUGHT THIS GAME A YEAR AGO AND I'M STILL PLAYING IT (not bored at all)

Party themes rangefrom Wild West campfire cookouts to Hawaiian luaus and room-shakingraves, with plenty of objects provided to keep guests entertained. There's a costume trunk to guarantee everyone will be dressed for theoccasion, and it's even possible to hire a caterer to keep the food anddrink flowing. If you're really lucky, a famous star may pop in for aguest appearance. Every party is packed with surprises, and theinclusion of extra neighborhoods ensures there's always a bash to plan. This is one expansion that no fan of The Sims should be without.--T. I haven't played "House Party" that much yet.It was a hassle trying to install this game.I had to send the game disc to Aspyr to get me a new version because it wouldn't install. Last night, I spent around 6 hours building a new house with House Party. In this game, you get 100+ new objects, larger variety of floors and walls, new characters and skins, and 3 new neighborhoods (8 in total (80 lots)).With how much I've played, I like it.A new staircase in HP is a teleporter that teleports you to the second or first floor. It's cool.Another cool thing about The Sims is that you can add your own mp3s to the game, so then your sims can "rock [their] body" to the "music."

The puzzles were pretty hard, especially the barber shop. But after a lot of trial and error, you eventually get it! GET THE 1st ONE TOO!!!!!!!!! The first one was AWESOME! I think it was better then this one, but this one was really fun too! The ending could, as in most games, have been a little better but it was still a good game!
The gameplay is basically point-and-click. You look at objects. You explore areas. You solve a lot of puzzles (mostly of the extremely difficult brain teaser variety rather than the "find this item and use it here" type). Why anyone would lock their door with some horribly difficult puzzle that takes half an hour to solve is beyond me, but it's all part of the game. An extra bit worth noting is that the game actually allows you to watch music videos by your friends on television sets. The band, in all their infinite wisdom, decided to play detective and place clues to various puzzles in their music videos (haven't I seen this cartoon?). Not only are the music videos enjoyable to watch, but piecing together solutions to the clues with them and various other hints around town adds a bit of immersiveness to the game. Another touch of immersiveness comes from the fact that throughout the game, you yourself are playing detective. You actually search for personal info about the various people of the town and get to know them and study their interactions in an attempt to get to the bottom of the mystery and figure out the identity of the wacko in the stupid mask who may or may not be behind everything. It's not an easy task, though.. You'll likely need a notebook (and possibly a walkthrough) by your side and a significant amount of time to solve all of the puzzles and the mystery (although you can cheat and have the puzzles solve themselves at the cost of some points in your score).. As for graphics, this game is a bit dated. It's over 5 years old, afterall. You have low resolution graphics, with the main game screen being displayed as a small box in the middle of your monitor. Still, they're sufficient enough that they don't take away much from the game. Also, the members of the band and their appearances and personalities actually fit their music and vibe perfectly (and the music videos actually look like music videos), so kudos to the development team for creating both visual and emotional character realism. The sound is spectacular. The occasional background tunes and ambient sound are well done, and the rock music that appears in the music videos by your friends is amazing (and also included in audio CD format on the second disc!). I found myself watching the videos several times just for the music, and actually repeatedly listening to the soundtrack CD portion of the 2nd disc when not playing the game. Now onto the major flaws of the game. The main flaw is that it's not scary at all. "Shivers" is quite the misnomer. While it does involve the supernatural, it's more of a mystery than a horror game. The second flaw is that the 2nd disc was somewhat buggy. It was perfectly playable until I reached one timed puzzle that repeatedly flew by in a fraction of the time it was supposed to take. The company didn't have a solution to the problem, and I ended up copying the answer from a walkthrough just so I could barely make it through the puzzle before time ran out. Shivers 2 is an enjoyable and immersive game for those on a budget, especially those looking for a more thought-provoking puzzle/mystery-oriented experience. You'll find challenging gameplay and a bonus soundtrack of great music. Not bad at all for the price.. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review We really like the improvements that have been made to the game's special effects, available for those of us with 3-D accelerator cards. The smoke and dust effects are particularly convincing compared to those of the previous version. Audio is also much improved, and gamers with 3-D audio cards can enjoy some eerily realistic surround sound effects. It's possible to tell where another car is in relation to you simply by listening closely. Novices can turn down many of the simulation's realism options and basically transform the simulation into an arcade game, but seasoned racers are still free to roll up their sleeves and modify virtually every aspect of their cars. From the amount of duct tape to put on the grille, to infinitesimally small changes in the stagger of the tires, if you can do it in real life you can probably do it in the game. Races take place on a variety of familiar tracks. Darlington, Talladega, the Milwaukee Mile, Sears Point, Watkins Glen, and 23 other familiar ovals and road courses are rendered in superb detail. The excellent manual outlines the history of each venue and provides tips for car setups so beginners can get started right away. If people have ever told you that NASCAR racing is boring because all you have to do is turn left, put them behind the wheel of NASCAR 3 so they can see firsthand what it's really all about. --T. Byrl Baker Pros: Reviews (8)
Right away, you're going to feel like you're actually on the track. The 3D affects are very good, and the graphics are awesome.Don't consider buying the game though, unless you're going to also purchase a steering wheel, and pedals (sold seperately). Like any game on the market, there are room for some minor improvements, but don't let that stop you from experiencing the thrill of competing against others on the track. If you feel the need for speed, then this is the game for you. This is definately 5 star fun !
