4-0 out of 5 stars this game is good but it lags for some reason
I Have broadband connection with a 1.2 AMD pc powered bya radeon 9600 graphic card and the game sometimes lags. Others times when I enter a room a black screen shows up giving a percentage of how long it will take to enter a room and sometime its take up to 2o minutes. Thats a long time even with dsl. I am newly introduced to the series so it will take me a while to get the hang of the multiplayer experience and the game in general.Other than that the game is fun to play. I recommend your get unreal 2004, but you should have a descent computer with a powerful graphics card. oh yeah if you dont have dsl dont bother playing online.

3-0 out of 5 stars Very innovative
Brand new game engine [for 2003], new gameplays [bombing run].
The game is fun, however it drifted away from the Unreal Tournament franchise. There is no assault, there are a lot of Unreal Tournament 1 characters missing and there are no vehicles, as the developers promised.
The game is not worth your money, you are better off purchasing the next title, Unreal Tournament 2004

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best frag fest that you can have online!
This game is great man. I just got it and I'm totally hooked on it. This is the first game ever to make me uninstall Counter Strike. My hard drive is sadly only 40gb for my newest gig and I had to uninstall Counter Strike to install this game. I first tried the demo which takes only about 200mb of my hard drive and I bought the full verision which was larger and forced me to uninstall CS. I won't say much because you probably tried the demo or already played the full version before so you know that it is good. some people said get Unreal Tournament 2004 instead but this game is about the same. UT2k4 only has few more maps, more vehicles, and the new Onslught mode. If you already have UT2K3, then you can stick to it for another year. Not only that, there are many great mods and you will definitly like it. Sorry if this review was waste of your time but you should still get this game.

3-0 out of 5 stars hi, ut 2004 is out guys.
get that instead of this thing.

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible Unreal Game!
The original unreal tournament is the very definition of fun. It was interesting, and I could play the demo for hours without becoming bored. The game remained interesting with cool characters, maps, and weapons. Then they released new maps, mods(relics in particular), and assault mode. That game was a success.

Unreal Tournament 2003 changes the original into a lame game. There are all new guns, and worst of all... There are uninspired new maps. The new 2-fort is a sand like level that doesn't have the same feeling. The other maps just don't have anything to be talked about. The all new guns I mentioned? Crap. They all blow except the redeemer. The new sniper rifle(lighting gun!) is retarded. The new pistol is pretty stupid. There's also a gun now which instead of doing damage, it pushes the opponent. This is rather useless in pretty much any situation. If you are on the top of a tower it is good, but that is rare.

Get the original Unreal Tournament or Unreal Tournament 2004. They both rock, and this game can just be skipped. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The best game in my collection!
I've had this game for years, almost as long as I've had my computer, and I still play it! It's challanging, but not frustrating or complicated, and I spend hours designing city layouts and constructing huge monuments. It's a challange to create the most efficent city I can, and that's what keeps me playing. Sure, it's not a high-stakes, shoot-'em-up game, it's a good, clean game for all ages, and I recommend it highly.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bowing to Pharoah
Pharoah is a simulation city-building game, based on Ancient Egypt, which allows you to build up cities from little mud huts to the great metropolises (plus pyramids, mastabas, statues and Sphinxes), while also providing neat little windows on demand to explain the real history. It looks complicated to the first time player, but it actually isn't that bad, and if you do get stuck, it's one of the few programs I've ever seen whose Help function is worth the time someone spent writing it.
It's also not too stressful, unless things go entirely Blair-shaped, which is easy enough to avoid, although in all honesty while buiding a big pyramid things can go a little too far the other way. In other words, it's an Ancient Eygpt Sim City clone with better buildings and more activity.
As well as the above, it has kinky little quirks, like rampaging hippos, whinging water carriers, Gods that get real and real time disasters that you have to cope with. My personal favourites are the hippos, even if they are a blistering nuisance in the wrong place!
The graphics are good enough to keep a player interested, without being so complicated that you can't play it on a laptop. All you need is a mouse (and a keyboard, for the cheats) and a computer, no fancy joysticks or any expensive extras.
Overall, I like it: it's a great way to spend an entire afternoon, with a cup of tea, building funky sphinxes, setting up a booming export trade or whatever. If you run through all thirty or so missions, and then get bored, there's a very kinky download online that allows you to make up your own maps, which isn't nearly as easy as it looks, as well as providing more music and more buildings. Very cool if you want thousands of your own slaves and no stress.

5-0 out of 5 stars Addicting city-building game + ancient Egypt = cool
Pharaoh is one of the most addictive strategy/city-building games I've ever played. I was hooked for days and days -- couldn't get to sleep. Awesome. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

With new units, new artwork, new video cut scenes, and a new multiplayer game mode, Firestorm is a solid add-on that will certainly appeal to fans of Tiberian Sun. Like every game in the Command & Conquer series, Firestorm lets you play as either the Global Defense Initiative (GDI) or the Brotherhood of NOD. Each side gets nine new missions to undertake, with both sides struggling to tie up loose ends left over from the Tiberian Sun game. While there aren't very many new missions in this expansion pack, fans of the series will appreciate Firestorm's solid mission design and variety of new units.

GDI players get to build and command mobile EMP cannons, long-range Juggernaut artillery units, and the mighty mobile war factory, which allows you to build military units at just about any location on the battlefield. NOD players get a mobile stealth generator, a diabolical cyborg unit called the Reaper, and their own version of the mobile war factory, dubbed The Fist of NOD. In addition, many of the original Tiberian Sun units have been upgraded or enhanced in Firestorm.

Another cool feature is the new World Domination multiplayer mode. In World Domination, literally thousands of players can take part in a tournament between GDI and NOD, as each side tries to take over the entire world. With the world map divided up into many small regions, players attempt to help their side by winning one region at a time. Once one side has control of the entire globe, the game resets.

Despite the hype surrounding its development and release, Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun did little to revolutionize the real-time strategy genre. It did, however, provide more of the classic RTS game play that made the original Command & Conquer and its Red Alert prequel so popular. The same holds true for Command & Conquer Tiberian Sun: Firestorm. --Michael E. Ryan

Pros:

  • More real-time strategy in the C&C universe
  • New units for both GDI and NOD forces
  • Great new multiplayer mode: World Domination
Cons:
  • Only nine new missions per side
  • More real-time strategy in the C&C universe

5-0 out of 5 stars Hey Cesar
I don't have the Firestorm Expansion but I do have the original game. If you think the computer is pathetic try level two instead of bein' a wuss. They Really put up a fight(usually). Or even better try it on the internet its a blast. Everybody on there is pretty good and you'll usually lose.

3-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this package....
For the same price you can get tiberian sun along with this expansion pack. Why pay [this much] just for this? Get the combination pack called "fire power" for the same price and you will have an additional TS game to share with a friend. That package also provides you with a TS soundtrack CD which is pretty cool to listen to. As for the firestorm pack i would say it provides some nice additions. Several additional units on each side and some minor changes to some units that westwood thought would help the competiveness. They do. For example GDI jump jet infantry have been given better range and the ability to see cloaked units and structures. They have added the juggernaut to the GDI which is similar to the nod artillery. Another neat addition is the mobile war factory that is available for both the nod and the GDI. The nod is gifted with a multiple missile launcher. Of course you get several new maps which are bigger and better than the TS ones. The firestorm map editor provides the opportunity to make some really neat maps. Unfortunately none of these maps will work without the firestorm disc in case you have a friend who doesn't have it. Also firestorm brings a slightly improved steamlined look for some units. Not a big change but the firestorm graphics seem just a bit cleaner and sharper.

That brings us to the main reason for buying any expansion pack. The missions. Firestorm gives you 18 original missions(9 for each side) and they are all fun and well thought out. These missions assume you already know how to play the game and include some creative additions you have not seen before. The video included is actually pretty good and very entertaining. I highly recommend them.

As for multiplay there are also many exellent additions yet they lack popularity. While it's still fairly easy to find a game at the TS site the number of firestorm players is somewhat limited. Westwood came up with the neat idea of having a "tour for world domination". A site where you can take the gdi or nod and fight against the other side for the purpose of defending territory for your side or taking territory from the other side. For this purpose westwood sets up games yet you will find very few people to play them.

In short tiberian sun is a game that is still a great deal of fun with graphics and game play that are still up to date today. Firstorm is a worthy expansion pack but it's simply not worth the price when you can get the fire power package for the same cost.

5-0 out of 5 stars It rocks
When I got it, I "plugged" it in and watched the magic. It is a vast improvement for GDI, because now they have artillery units(Juggernauts) making it a bit more equal on both sides(GDI[good] and NOD[bad]).

The missions are by far better than Tiberian Sun, making this a most enjoyable game.If you feel lucky, you might want to try the World Domination Tour.I tried it and boy is the CPU hard.

GDI has awesome new units like a Mobile EMP, Mobile War Factory, and Drop Pod Control Plug for on the Upgrade Center.

NOD has new units too, but not as exciting as GDI's.They include a Mobile Stealth Generator, Fist of Nod(MWF), and my favorite, the Cyborg Reaper.

3-0 out of 5 stars Could have been much better....
This game could have been much better. There are only 9 new missions for each side. There are only about four new units for each side. The vidio clips are horrible beyond belief. The new storyline isnt very interesting, and in most of the missions you get very limited technology, so you dont get to use the new units very much.

5-0 out of 5 stars Its great
I just love all the new tactics you can now use with all the new units. This pack made me change all my fighting strategies. I love this expansion, its an expansion I wish they had to begin with. GDI now has long range weapons, and the Nod now get some more fierce items to use. I have to say, the Firestorm experience isn't complete unless you get this expansion. It also build on to the story of this series. This is part II of the normal command and conquer games (Tiberian dawn, Tiberian sun, and soon to come Tiberian Twilight [I think]). ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't be fooled, it's classic stuff.
Composer Jack Wall took over scoring duties from Robyn Miller for Myst III, and although he takes the music in an entirely new direction, the main Myst jingle is still in there. But it's now evolved into something a whole lot more involving and effective.

Replacing the eerie, isolated atmosphere of Riven are a huge orchestra, angelic children's choirs, seductive string solos and the ever intriguing duduk, probably the coolest sounding musical instrument ever. Listening to the score to Myst III is like being taken thru dozens of different moods and feelings. It's an experience on its own. You'll feel power, sadness, loneliness and love.

It's not just limited to the game either. Myst III is strong enough to stand on its own and will surely one day be performed as an opera. The CD went out of print pretty quickly but I implore you to find a copy pronto. It lasts for 57 minutes and contains 30 tracks. Tho it's a shame that the unused tracks and the awesome music for the Myst III trailer are not featured, tho they are available from Jack Wall's website.

5-0 out of 5 stars A perfect accompaniment to a great game
This is a beautiful and colorful soundtrack to go with the beautiful and colorful worlds of Exile. I love the addition of wind and strings to the usual synthesizer music, which was great by itself but better with real instruments. It always fits the mood of the environment perfectly, and is noticeable without being obtrusive. It's one of the things that I love most about the game itself, and I love having the soundtrack to listen do while I draw. It's quite inspiratinal.

4-0 out of 5 stars The soundtrack is pretty mellow but Dope!
Incorporates some mellow music and some gothic tracks. I put it in for some mellow but dark background music while writing or whatever. I thought it was a pretty sweet overall and I haven't even played the game.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Masterpiece of Mystery
The music of Myst III perfectly captures the mysterious essence of the game. Some pieces are a slowly flowing vision of dark beauty while others are metallic and ominous.Jack Wall, the composer, masterfully mixes Arab, African, Chinese, and Western themes and then adds the final cavernous echo with synthesizers and other sound effects in the background. The result is an impressive collection of atmospheres that gives life to the meticulously crafted worlds of Myst.Jack Wall's score is complex and intriguing. Its use of multiple instruments and styles makes it difficult to classify into any one genre. The music simply is Myst; haunting, serene, silken, and lonely.

5-0 out of 5 stars Is it good?
I'm going to get this CD soon and I wonder how good it is? ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Can't wait for the next one.
This is a very fun game with a good group of people playing it. I only wish that I had more time to play it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best game ever.
Starsiege is hands-down the best game to come out on the market. I myself am a vetern of this action-packed fast-paced game. I lead my own squad, the Starsiege Mafia, and I've seen all there is to see. A person's first impression is to look at the graphics, yet why dare comparing graphics against gameplay? The controls are a bit harsh to the "newbie" but he becomes familiar with time. The sad truth is, people don't want to play because it takes over a week, and maybe even a year, just to adjust yourself properly to the game. And others are just so lazy, they don't want to endure the hardships of teamwork, which, sadly, I have witnessed personally within the game. And also, take Izzy's advice, he's the ultimate modder. What makes this game so great is the fact that it does take teamwork, effort, time, and sometimes, for us mappers, imagination. A lot do not like the idea of, how did gamespot put it.."Man-made maps", but that's the fun of it!! The ideas in your brain come out in these maps! Overall, get this game, and, amazon, start charging more for it. It deserves much more credit than what you give.

Amazon.com Review

If building and managing cities is your passion, then Pharaoh is the game for you. It puts you in charge of building the ancient Egyptian civilization, complete with work camps, temples to Bast, and, of course, pyramids.

Unlike some games of this type, where you build one city indefinitely and watch the population climb, Pharaoh is divided into missions. Players are given a goal--a desired population, food storage targets, and cultural achievements. Play continues until the target is met, unless the city succumbs to plagues, debt, or outside invaders first.

Pharaoh is loads of fun. The mission goals are tough but attainable, and city building for a finite time span will appeal to players who find unending development a bore. The usual juggling of civic needs for water, food, entertainment, and jobs is well balanced. The range of industries, religious practices, and municipal services is engaging, and the graphics are clear enough that it is easy to tell what's going on in the city. The mission-by-mission format allows the game to present a few challenges at a time, providing novelties for new levels of play.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is the jewel of the sierra studios games!
"Build a kingdome.Rule the Nile.Live Forever." It said on the cover, but what was in the disk was so much more. You have to build a city and keep it from going into ruin. It was kinda hard at first-*spoiler/tip warning*- but as long as you put up medical buildings, architect's posts, fire houses, and the like, you'll be fine! This game does take a long time, but just be patient, it's worth it.

5-0 out of 5 stars bu du du dut da i'm lovin' it!
i don't think they had McDonalds in egypt but this game STILL RULES!!!!!!!! YEAH!

3-0 out of 5 stars Too exhausting to be enjoyable
Pharaoh is every positive thing mentioned by the other reviewers. I wouldn't argue with any of them. It is a great game: "great" in terms of magnitude and scope. But it fails to be "fun." It's one of those bizarre instances where a game is addictive and enthralling but also infuriatingly difficult. I've just spent eight hours on a particular mission only to have a glitch in the behavior of the bazaar traders wreck everything. A few more courses to go on the pyramid...oops, so sorry, start over. Unfortunately problems like these have been commonplace since I started my campaign. Even when things go smoothly, most missions require four to eight hours. I'm sorry, I can't spend my life building cyberspace pyramids. Pharaoh is definitely a case of "more is less."

4-0 out of 5 stars Pharaoh
This game is great fun for anyone interested in Geography. As well as being great fun its also educational. I used this game to help me pass my Geography exams, it taught me what people need to live and what facilities help to create a better place to live, for example good healthcare and religious facilities, as well as shops and recreational places such as bars and festivals. You can also create parks and gardens.
The down side to this game is the time it takes to build monuments. It takes forever to build things such as pyramid complexes and temples. On the whole this game is a good investment, it provides hours of in-depth fun and education

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than sim city
This game is a bit like sim city, where you build and controll a city as the mayor, or god, because you can cause fires and tornados and stuff, but its better because you have an objective. Its cool because it's based on real facts about Eqypt, and I like it especially so because I've been to eqypt and seen the real pyramids at Giza, and gone a cruise down the Nile. ... Read more

At last, the prayers of NASCAR Racing 3 fans have beenanswered. Its sequel, NASCAR Racing 4, comes with theoutstanding physics model hard-core NASCAR fans have been clamoringfor, along with all 21 tracks from the 2000 Winston Cup season and carsfrom all four NASCAR manufacturers. It's the most complete NASCARsimulation to date, and the realistic physics add a new dimension tothe gameplay. Proper weight transfer is now imperative, and adjustmentsmade to spoilers, shocks, and other components of the car becomeimmediately evident on the track as the car reacts accordingly.

With the right processor and video card, NASCAR Racing 4 cangenerate visuals that are difficult to distinguish from TV broadcasts.Smoke from burnouts and collisions can hang in the air for minutes, andthe new physics model means cars hunker down on their shocks whilebraking and turning. The tracks are all cracked and pitted, with tiremarks and oil trails slowly building up on the standard racing lines. The cars feature immaculate paint jobs that are fully customizableusing the included painting tools.

Those shiny cars can quickly lose their luster thanks to the new damagemodel. Minor bumps and scrapes can take the paint off, while majoraltercations can leave you with bent wheels, a crumpled hood thatobscures your vision, or any of a million other problems. The car'shandling changes based on the damage it has suffered, sometimes pullingso violently to the right or left that racing becomes impossible. Anadded effect of the new physics model is that cars can finally getairborne, making wrecks more realistic than any seen in a NASCARsimulation.

The single-player mode offers computer-controlled opponents that driverealistically, although they can be too aggressive if you're on a linethey want. It's much more fun to build some skill in the single-playergame and then migrate to online play, where drivers from around theworld perpetually challenge one another. NASCAR Racing 4 isn'tperfect at this point, but a few patches should correct what minorflaws it has, and it still stands as the best NASCAR simulation evercreated. --T. Byrl Baker

  • Completely revamped physics model
  • Excellent graphics

5-0 out of 5 stars The best Nascar game ever.
The absolute best nascar game ever, Nascar Racing 4.Ive played them all, and this one is the simply the only 1 I ever play at this point, because none other lives up to its features and playability.I highly recomend this game if you enjoy nascar sims, just be sure you have a good wheel.

5-0 out of 5 stars this is the best game ever
This game is cool becasue it has cool 3d grafits and i hope they make nascar racing 5.

5-0 out of 5 stars Requirements
I own the Game.. AllThough The requirements don't mention it, Nascar4 also works with WINXP also.. I have XP and I have no problem with it.. After you install, connect on line and let it update.. Great graphics.. Smooth controls with Thrustmaster Racing Wheel.. Better than Nascar Thunder or Nascar2003..

5-0 out of 5 stars It's more than you think!
Do you want monster realism and physics?Scrutinize this one with a lot of nitpicking, folks, because what we have here is a reformation of one of the most "highly valued" games around.Want to go backwards (but driving forward) at 188 m.p.h. (don't mean to sound harsh, but)?Go ahead. You'll experience the major collision with about 30 cars flipping up into the air sideways, or many different ways. While viewing the replay, you'll see one of the front panels of many race cars fly up 50' in the air; glass, parts, destruction....This is more like NASCAR, people!

Handling your car can be a slight boo-boo, unless you download the patch, where not only will you then exceed in winning some famous races, but become more skilled for multiplayer races.

Just listen to the major BOOM when you smash head on into one of those Nascar cars at 190 m.p.h.We've got some major sound effects!!Many other great sounds, like screeching the tires, tires exploding, you name it.

Also, want to paint your own vehicle?Go to the paintshop.Save a few images from the internet and put them on your car!

If you want, you can operate on your car, tune it any way you want!

That's the reformation of a great Nascar game, people.Bright, sophisticated, brilliant details and graphics and gameplay make this the worthy, leading successor of all the Nascar games out there for the PC.

3-0 out of 5 stars nascar racing #4
first i did not get a book of instructions with the game?? i had to learn on my own. my pit crew is not visible, don't know how to find them? the game goes in stop motion from time to time and the sound goes off all the time. i think it should be more simple to operate--to many buttons on the key board that changes things. in part the game is real fun and i plan on buying nascar 2002 soon. i just hope i get a book this time. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Segfaults
I bought this game a few years ago. I've never been able to get it to run even after downloading and installing all of the patches. Its been money down the toilet.
I'm also not able to return the game because of stupid software return policies.

I wish I could rate it with negative stars

4-0 out of 5 stars very consisent and good game.
Iv'e never played descent 2 or 1, so I have only played this one, when I ran it on my pentium mmx 2, 128megabytes of ram, Ndvidia tnt with the latest drivers, directx6, and aureal3dvortex audio driver, it ran slow, but with a fair frame rate. yet, the graphics, music, AI, sounds, were incredible, but the cinematics looked a little like low quality, but still the game supports eax, a3d, for audio, opengl, direct3d for display and drivers, although i ran a3d and direct3d on it, it looked very exeptable, very nice. and sounded very exceptable, verynice.
but the gameplay was a real question, I got lost after a while, the gameplay to me is just OKAY. the only reason why this game earned 4stars because of the graphics, music, sound, support of display and audio drivers, and that I had the correct directx driver to run it. then I uninstalled it because I never really played it that much, 3years later, when I got my state of the art dell pentium4, windowsxphome edition, geforce2family with tv video out, 256 megabytes of rdram, sbwavedevice, and the C hard drive 40.gbs, it ran so incredible and so much better, I installed it, with opengl support, eax audio incredible support, and using directx8.1, it ran so incredible, like,60fps, and eax realstic extreme audio. besides the point, if you have never seen of played descent1 or 2, I'm not sure if you should play it, but if you do, I reccomend it!

4-0 out of 5 stars Decent 3
I thought that Decent 3 was the greatest.First of all the graphics areexeptional.Second, the addition of above ground levels make the game bothmore exciting and challenging. Finally, The increased arsnal gives thegame it's four star rating.I feel sorry for those who dont allready havethis game because they dont know what a real computer game is.

5-0 out of 5 stars Descent3 Rocks!
This is one of the coolest games I've played in a long time.Basically, you're a pilot and you have to fly through varios enviorments trying tofind keys, kill robots, etc...I may sound like just another mindlesspoint and shoot game, but unlike the Descent 1, and Descent 2, we now havea storyline complete with cutscenes.Every level is connected directlywith the plot. Each is increacingly more and more difficult, but thisisn't accomplished by adding more and more robots.Usually it's in theform of a more complex level, with puzzles that are harder and harder tocrack. The graphics are awsome, and everything is incredably detailed. Robots have advanced AI that varies from robot to robot. Some of theweaker robots, if they can, will escape the situation (you trying to blastthem to shmitheriens) to go in search of more robots, and will come backwith 3-5!Of corse some will come in fists swinging and try to knock theliving daylights out of you and your ship. All in all an amazing game. Descent 3 supports EAX and A3D sound API's, so if your sound card supportseither of these then you are in for a treat!I only have on realdisapointment with this game, and that is the people in the cutscenes looklike they were made of play-dough.Other than that I really can't find anymajor flaws in Descent 3.

The linux version is just a straight port ofthe PC version, so they are in fact, the same game.

Chuck

P.S.Youwill need a decent computer to run it though.I would reccomend a Pentium266 with 64 MB RAM, SVGA 4MB (voodoo 2 or three should be fine as long asit's Direct 3D compatible, I ran mine on a GeForce2! :) ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Irritating Game
I see some people love this game.I on the other hand, dislike it very much.Mostly because in order to make your city happy, you need money to make the city better. But you run out of money to soon and try to make some adjustments in the taxes and everything, which makes the city unhappy. And while your trying to do all that, the roads keep getting messed up and needing repairs, you have to add more police stations to keep the crime at bay, ect.Plus, if your playing with the crisis', you'll have aliens burning your hard work down, earthquakes, ect. It's just not worth the time. Now if you love a tough challenge and have nothing else you can think of to do, then go right ahead and get it.Otherwise, don't waste your time or money. This is unlike the regular Sims game, which is the best PC game ever.I really can't wait for The Sims 2!Save your money for that one!It will be so much better than the first!

5-0 out of 5 stars Extremely dated but great vintage value!
I still come back to this game from time to time considering the immensely complex scope of the newest SC 4 game released recently.

I have such great memories of this game when I got in during Christmas of 1998 and played it for a long time afterwards and for most of that time, it was the most state of the art computer game that was ever created at least at that point in time.

In this game, you zone out the tiles of land for industial, commercial and residential development and manage your city's progress from a small unincorporated village into a thriving metropolis or town if you don't want it big. The game is incredibly simple compared to the newest reincarnation of the game saga.

This game is extremely dated today but tack in 1994 through late 1998, this game to me was the 'game of the future;! The graphics are quite low on detail and almost look silly by todays standards. The water pumps for example look more like pacifiers than real water pumps. The railroads are also a bit questionable by today's standards because although it makes it a lot easier to play, the railroads can be built at ninety degree angles, something that is impossible with real traintracks which can bend maybe no more than like 10 degrees. At the same time, it's quite entertaining just to see the freight trains pass the ninety degree bends with no problems at all.

This game holds a special place in my life not just because I played it so much but also because it was the game that brought the whole Simcity Saga into my life and is the grandfather of the simcity games. It's definatety a keeper just for it's vintage value and the memories that it holds for me.

A true classic in every way. This game is the grandfather of the Simcity Saga at least for me it is.

1-0 out of 5 stars It looks good, but DON'T buy it!
This game is extremely bad. The only good sim games are the awesome "The Sims" games. In SimCity, th only way to build homes, hospitals, airports etc... is to use the urban renewal kit! If you build a city useing the regular game it does not build buildings at all! If you choose to make an area of land residential, it does not build homes, it colors the land green! This game is horrible! When you look at your finished city, it is a huge color coded land mass!

4-0 out of 5 stars A gem, if you have a bit of patience...
I own the first three Sim City games, so when I got this one, I was used to playing the first Sim City, so I struggled with the interface changes and new additions. But when I began to be successful, I started to really love the funny newspapers, rewards, and other good things, so I am a convert. It's a shame that SimCity 3000 failed to compel me half as much. Buy this one and abort your search for fancy graphics: once you master this game, you won't care that they aren't in crisp 3D.

4-0 out of 5 stars Boredom Buster
This game deserves four stars if your playing for a boredom buster instead of enjoyment. This is a fun yet agrivating game that can keep you playing for days trying to get that big city any mayor wished they could have. The game is aggrivating in a way because it is easy to fail and have your city go into debt. But If youre bored this is a great game. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Doesn't live up to its expectations...
I am a huge fan of Roberta Williams, her King's Quest games have offered me hours of entertainment since I was about 9 years old. When I heard that she was taking on a more "adult" project featuring real actors and a gripping, horror-based storyline, I was more than excited. However, I received nothing but disappointment.

The graphics in this game are most impressive (considering the time that the game was created). They feature real actors who are placed in front of a blue screen with a cartoon-ish backround and props projected behind them. This gives the game a fairly realistic effect although at times the actors look so out of place in front of their backrounds that the occuring event is everything but real.

As far as the acting goes..it's about what you'd expect from a game which resembles a B horror movie. Most of the acting is barely believeable (although Adrienne, the main character, is not horrible) and the characters themselves are most annoying.

The story was just awful...cliched and robbed to the core, I found absolutely everything in this game to be entirely predictable. It focuses around a couple, Don and Adrienne, who move into a huge, spooky house on an island. The house was owned by a creepy count named Carno and it is said to be haunted. All of the islanders are afraid of the house and none of them are too keen on talking about it (with the exception of one eager old woman who serves as the "revelation of the evil within" source seen in all movies of this sort). The story proceeds just as you would predict. Without giving anything away I'll just tell you that Adrienne discovers ghosts, secret rooms, and a demon which has been wreaking havoc on the house for years. It borrows heavily from Stephen King's "The Shining" (as in..the house turns the husband into a raving psychopath). For anyone who is not too familiar with the horror genre, Phantasmagoria may provide a few hours of good story. To fans of classic horror movies and games, Phantasmagoria will become stale before the end of chapter three.

This brings me to the gameplay. The game itself is divided into 7 chapters (each chapter contained entirely on its respective disk). While this may seem as though it allows for a massive game, it must be said that each chapter can be completed in a quick half hour, even by the most inexperienced of adventure gamers. The puzzles that each chapter requires you to solve are completely lacking in challenge. They are solved by the use of obvious items in Adrienne's inventory and no logical thought is necessary. There was actually a chapter in the game which focused entirely on buying a bottle of Dran-O from the village general store and returning it to your husband. Yes - that's it. Later - a puzzle comes up where the very item you need can be found a single screen below and it is not hidden in the very least.

To fans of blood and gore - this game may serve as an enjoyable "shockfest". There is more than one moment of senseless violence which is not limited to beheading, faces being ripped open, and the funneling of human body parts down a woman's throat. For those too squeamish to even imagine such things, the gore can easily be censored with an in-game option requiring the entry of a password (to protect the little ones' virgin eyes).

Overall, Phantasmagoria lacks in every area required to make an adventure game reach "classic" status. The story is predictable, the gameplay simple and stale, and the characters annoying. For huge fans of senseless violence and B-movie horror plots, this may serve as some sort of "cult classic" piece. All others, don't waste your money.

5-0 out of 5 stars The absolute best
This is the most enjoyable and thrilling game I have ever played on the PC.I didn't want to move away from my computer while playing because it was so gripping.I recommend this game for any PC gamer who wants a realistic adventure.

5-0 out of 5 stars Phantasmagoria (the original)
I loved this game the first time we played it!!! I want to buy it and replay it but I don't know if it can be played on Windows XP?Does anyone know? Please email me at thetaylors@insightbb.com.I want to purchase it as a xmas gift(on amazon) for my husband. We set up all night and played it 10 years ago.I wish they still made games like that.Todays' games are too complicated to play. (IMO) All of Sierra games are good !!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!!!!!!*************
I played this game when it first came out and i LOVED IT. 8 years later, I am ordering it off ofamazon.com and anticipating my package in the mail. The game is out of print and i have been looking for it for ages, and buying it online is an amazing idea for dorks like me! Ive heard puzzle of flesh isnt as good but ill be the judge of that. AMAZING GAME OVERALL! (P1) Check it out! You will NOT be dissapointed.

4-0 out of 5 stars Trashy - but very enjoyable
These are two rather [weak] but very enjoyable games - here is a review of each one.

Phantasmagoria is a rather basic interactive movie/graphic adventure in which you play Adrienne Delaney who moves into an old mansion estate with her husband Don Gordon. She then learns of the estates twisted past and Don becomes increasingly abusive toward her.

The interface is basic - you click around the screen, examining objects, which may be put into your inventory to use later by clicking on them in your inventory which makes the object your cursor to use etc.

The graphics are live action actors on a 3d background, are mostly quite grainy but not bad for 1995.

The soundtrack is amazing, some fabulous orchestral scores. Fantastic.

The game is very graphically violent, but there is a censorship option.
The first three chapters leaves you wondering why the game is rated Mature however the next three chapters your questions are answered as everything Adrienne researched in the latter chapters is now seen. Some scenes in the game are truly [strange] and disturbing and by the last chapter you start feeling very nauseated, especially if you do it the hard way.

The only annoying things about Phantasmagoria are that it's to short and easy. The first time you play, you can finish it in six to eight hours, but it's worth playing again because there are plenty of movie scenes and a few "Easter eggs" you can miss the first time round. The second time you play if you know exactly what your doing and view everything there is to see you can finish it in four hours fifteen minutes.

Overall great game deserves its mature rating- recommended.

Phantasmagoria: A puzzle of flesh is also a rather basic interactive movie/graphic adventure in which you play ex-mental patient Curtis Craig who's been out of the mental hospital for exactly one year; he now has a good job and a great girlfriend.
However now he begins to have hallucinations, first an invisible hand punches him at his desk and his rat begins to talk to him. Then one of his co-workers is brutally murdered and all evidence points to him. Playing as Curtis you must set out to prove his innocence and unravel the mysteries of the company you work for.
Meanwhile you're cheating on your girlfriend with hot S&M babe Therese. Sounds [weak]- it is, but it is also very enjoyable, however not so much as the original because it's not as scary.

The interface is pretty basic. You click on highlighted hot spots, which will more often than not trigger a movie sequence. You can collect objects and click on them, which will then make the object, become your cursor, which enables you to use them in the game environment, examine with the eye icon, etc, etc.

The puzzles are also pretty basic, apart from a few password cracking puzzles which are mainly difficult because you don't know when you're supposed to crack each one within the game.

The graphics are your usual pixelated movie sequences and unmoving back grounds however in high colour it's better quality than most games of its type.

The game like the original is very graphically violent however there is a censorship option, which will cut four of the most violent scenes and three of the [physical ones].

As I said this isn't as scary as the original but there are a few jumpy moments, a disturbing mental hospital scene and a gory, disturbing murder scene, which I found scary.

There is a fair bit of replay value mainly for the sheer heck of it because it was so enjoyable the first time but also because there is a whole "Easter egg" system in which you can click around "unclickable" places etc to trigger funny movies and weird things like Curtis picking his nose which is a laugh, you can also get scored on the Easter eggs you find. However unlike the original you will see almost everything the first time you play.

It can be finished for the first time in about eight to ten hours - a bit more if your really bad at puzzle solving. The second time you play, if you know exactly what your doing it can be finished in approximately five hours so it is a slight improvement on length than the original even though its only on five CD's while the original was seven. If you want to find all the "Easter eggs" however it could take you forever - you will need a guide.

There is also a fair bit of humour in this one, mostly coming from Curtis' mate Trevor, who cracked me up. There was a lot of great one liners and jokes coming from him which was refreshing because in the original there was next to no humour at all.

Overall despite the bad ratings this game got I found it to be very enjoyable and am sad to say I have replayed it several times, but it definitely deserves its mature rating!

To sum up two great genuinely scary games which you'll want to play again and again. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Amber: Journeys Beyond--a tight and self-contained ghost story--begins when you visit a fellow scientist named Roxy. An avid paranormal researcher, Roxy has chosen her new home because she believes it is haunted. Using a host of unreliable detection devices, she plans to use this house as a laboratory. Her goal: proving the existence of psychic phenomena.

Driving out to the house in a thunderstorm, you are run off the road by a shimmering apparition and are sent crashing into a lake. In short order, you discover other things have gone wrong--Roxy is in the garage, apparently dead. It's up to you to save yourself and the overzealous scientist from the forces lurking in the house.

Patience and close attention to detail are musts for playing Amber: Journeys Beyond. Critical items are sometimes hard to spot, and one or two of the scenes take place in very dark locales. When you can see, the graphics are crisp and drawn with a faint gothic sensibility, surrounding the player in a milieu of creepy sounds and ghost-catching gadgets.

The game is especially suited to beginning or younger gamers, as the problem-solving challenges are on the simple side. Even so, Amber: Journeys Beyond is spooky and engaging, a worthy electronic heir to campfire stories everywhere. Alyx Dellamonica ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Xcellent Game but will not work on XP
Whomever wrote that a Compatibality of Win 95/98 will run Amber then please let me know how you got it to run.It will load in XP, but when trying to run the game there is an error in the MOVUTILS file and an error of Script Handler -Both which shuts down the game.

I suggest that if you are "really" tired of the games out now to train our future generation of professional soilders, then keep an old computer on hand so you can play the really good entertainment and thought provoking games like AMBER Journeys Beyond.

5-0 out of 5 stars spooky fun!
If you like murder mysteries then you'll like this game. Ghosts from different decades haunt the house and make for a spooky good time!

4-0 out of 5 stars My absolute FAVORITE PC game
It was defenitely way too short!
I bought & played this game back when I was on Win95 (use WinXPpro now) and I had no problems whatsoever. This game was fun, exciting, creepy, and kept me wanting more. Even after I found things I needed in places, I was still curious to search more and just poke around. The stories were sad and haunting, but so entertaining. I was VERY dissapointed that this was so short and I have been searching for a similiar game ever since, with no luck at all :(
Still, I don't regret buying this....I mean, it's been forever, and I'm STILL searching for a game that can entertain me like this did! I gave Amber 4 stars only because of game length... other than that, I say, you have to play this game!

5-0 out of 5 stars AMBER- JUST PLAIN FUN
Amber is a CLASSIC computer adventure game, in the style of the original MYST. It is not as long a game, but entirely enjoyable.
The puzzles are not THAT hard (not THAT easy either), and I only needed to look at a walkthrough a couple of times.

An interesting array of different set ups through the game.
Set your computer screen for lower resolution, and the game window gets bigger-- 800X600 will fill up your monitor screen.

THis is my second time playing the game- and it took a lot of investigation to figure out (on the web) that Amber WILL NOT- ABSOLUTELY NOT WORK ON WINDOWS XP.You need an older OS, Win98 is perfect. I bought a computer at the Salvation Army with 98 on it just to play this game-- it was worth it.

A very nostalgic thing about the game, very involving, very atmospheric with beautiful sound effects and story.

Remember, its more rudimentary looking than many games today, but this in no way detracts from the enjoyment.

A very cool game. I'll wait a couple ofyears and play it again.

The AMAZING BRAIN ADVENTURE

4-0 out of 5 stars Cool, spooky game
I really enjoyed this game.I was turned on to it by some friends who witnessed my frustration with Myst and Riven. They knew my interest in the paranormal and passed this one along. I've had it for several years now and have solved it umpteen times, it's just fun to revisit it once in awhile. The only problem is that I'm running XP now and I've tried changing the compatibility in the computer, but I can't play it anymore. I suppose that the company is out of business or something because their website is non-existant and there is no contact number. Good luck to those running a newer version of Windows who want to play this- it's a great game though!! ... Read more

this game is very funny and xtremely clever. you cant help but laugh at the funny things that happen. If you like too have fun, this well worth your money and you are sure too like this game

5-0 out of 5 stars Very fun game
This game is SO much fun.It has 27 different holes, including Future City, Sawmill, and Neptune's Kingdom. This is so much fun, and very addicting!I also love when I have my speakers on, because the sound effects on this game are so cool.Buy this game.

5-0 out of 5 stars 3-D ultra Minigolf Deluxe
The reason I bought this game was to send it to my grandaughter. She loves it. Everytime she comes to visit she has to play. I got it from a friend about a year ago. We have a great time with it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great game without the cheats
The sounds, music, and minigolf physics are great.I could never complain about that. The only problem is the cheats.I played against people online, and they were acing even 7 out of 9 holes!Where's the fun in that?I did learn one cheat, but the game is so boring when you play with it.Plus, that hole is pretty much ruined for me, since I now always get a guaranteed hole-in-one on it. It doesn't take too long to get used to the game (only fifteen minutes of putting around, and then you get the general idea of how hard to swing, etc.)Some of the holes, especially in the deluxe course, take a long time to load (I had it on a 100 mhz computer), unless you either have a better computer, or do the full install (I recommend both.)If you do the full install, you can play without the CD. Don't learn the cheats; they ruin the game.Plus, if you play online, the scores of the people you play against DO get posted on your computer's high score list, so think twice about playing against cheaters. The race mode is cool (get the ball in the hole as fast as you can) while the hole-by-hole mode is pretty dumb (it gives you a point if you win against someone else; gives them a point if they lose.)The normal mode is cool. Three nine-hole courses, three modes. What more could you want?

3-0 out of 5 stars 3-D Ultra Minigolf Deluxe
A very fun game. However, because of the cheats, soon everyone is aceing most of the holes.Because of that, the replay value suffers.Online it's ace after ace (ho hum).Too bad because the play, graphics, sound, etc. are loads of fun. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great title
Warcraft 3 is a great new title in Blizzard's the Warcraft universe. The realtime strategy game brings new races to the table, these being the night elves and the undead. The plot thickens, the action is intense.
The cinematics are breathtaking, the new game engine is great and so is the gameplay.
Battlenet also gets a facelift.
All in all, a great title. Even if you're a newcomer to the Warcraft universe but you enjoy real-time strategy game, you should definitely get this game.
The collector's edition is awesome. It comes with the game, the soundtrack of Warcraft III on CD, 8x10" posters of the Humans, Undead, Night Elf and Orc and also a fairly thick and detailed book called the Art of Warcraft which is basically a "behind the scenes" look at the work that went into the creation of this masterpiece.

5-0 out of 5 stars Orcs are friends, not goons
I have to admit that I've killed many orcs over the years and never felt an ounce of remorse about it--and who could blame me? They smell bad, they drool, have terrible dental hygiene, steal the jobs of hard-working dwarves and gnomes, and of course...they eat people. Or so I was told. (*Mild Spoiler*) You can imagine what a shock it was to learn in Warcraft III that not only are the orcs not enemies; they are allies you need to save humanity's collective bacon. So as you play the game, you'll need to drive that Lord of the Rings propaganda out of your mind and find peace with your inner orc.

Warcraft III is a terrific real-time strategy game that goes farther in blurring elements of role-playing and strategy than any game that's come before it. The inclusion of heroes as role-playing characters is terrific and provides extra incentive to explore the entire map because you never know what items or quests are hidden in remote corners. It just makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside when you find those hidden magic boots or that ring of protection. Warcraft III also marks the best story to date for a Real-Time Strategy game. In the third campaign of the single-player, I tell you that I was an orc...for about an hour. It's also worth mentioning that the tale cleverly unfolds in a way to allow you to play each of the factions (Human, Undead, Orc, and Night Elf) in a compelling progression.

Anyone who has played RTS games before will be familiar with the interface and gameplay of Warcraft III. All of the usual unit types are there--it's just that in Warcraft III they seem more polished than in other games. Whether it's the endearing signature responses when you click on them or the way the units intelligently form up, move, path find, and attack, every aspect of every unit has obviously been thoroughly tested and balanced. Not once when I gave an order did a unit wander off from the pack to explore some random corner of the screen and cause me mouse-crushing, game-cursing rage (see how well I found my inner orc?). It may not sound like much, but those of you who have played many real-time strategy games know that this is not a given. When I ordered a unit to march to a certain place and kill, they did just that.

I realize that the game is over a year old now, but it's worth noting how technically sound this game is. I did not have a hiccup in this game. Never in my single-player campaign did the game crash to desktop, freeze, stutter, spit or delay. The load times were very reasonable and there were also no graphical problems changing resolution or color depth. The graphics themselves are probably the weakest element of the game; all of the units certainly look very blocky and dated. But of course, for a real-time strategy game, who really gives a crap? You don't need state of the art graphics for an RTS. I certainly didn't find that it affected my experience.

I only played the multiplayer a couple of times and I got stomped like the kid in my elementary school who used to wear cardigans that looked like they'd been swiped from Mr. Rogers' closet. It was that bad. This game has been out long enough that even if you seek out a so-called newbie game, you're dealing with people who obviously eat, slept and breathe Warcraft. But there was no problem finding a game and I didn't have any problems with lag or people bailing out of games. It just so happens that I stink.

On the whole, this is a beast of a game: fun to play, compelling, balanced and technically sound...and I think it's time we thought about an orc for president.

2-0 out of 5 stars Very dissappointed
The presentation was good.I bought this Collection to get a behind scences on the making of Warcraft etc. I was dissapointed that the DVD wasn't more than the game. No running commentary, no behind scences. I will be selling it as soon as I can.

5-0 out of 5 stars this game is great
This is a really great game.I do not have this game but I play it all the
time.I love playing this game on battle net.I also like playing it with my
friends on local area net work.I liked this game the minute I played it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome game
I bought Warcraft 3 because I am a fan of the Warcraft series. I was blown away by the amazing graphics and the overall playability of the game. Once you have beaten the game in campaign mode you can go online and play via Battle.Net, or as many people do, via your home network.

Warcraft 3 is different from WC2 and Starcraft because you are introduced to special characters (Heroes) who level up during the game and have special abilities. Heroes are a key feature of the game that makes it different (and better) than other games of this type.

Another interesting thing in this game is that you have motivation to beat your opponents without use of overwhelming force. The more units you have the higher "tax" you pay on gold and wood that your units bring in. This makes you try to find more creative ways to beat your opponents.

Overall this is an awesome game. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Intriguing....
From start to end, this game has non-stop, heart-racing, adrenaline-pumping action, through the downtown high rises and the suburbs of Los Angeles.

This game is very real, and that's why I mention that it's basically nerve-racking and somewhat horrifying if you don't know where and when your "tango" will kill you out of nowhere.I have had some very memorable moments on the 50th floor of the LA City Hall mission, midnight, where the office room was pitch black with the dim lights in the background.Tangos just erupt with gunfire and scare the daylights out of ya, that's how real this tactical game is, especially when they scream and laugh with a devilish tone, really.

The weapons are totally realistic with that Swat force type sound to it.You know, I was ordering myself to order my enemy to get down to the ground, very loudly, and had to kill my enemy with the AK47 while my team brought him down! What I'm saying is that this type of action just doesn't occur in any other games I've played!

I absolutely love the missions/levels.This one level, an underground sewer storm drain mission, where you had to disarm 6 bombs or so, it was pitch black, but I could see well with my flashlight. With my team members behind me, they caught an enemy down the tunnel with full force, yelling, and bone-crushing resistance! What a scene though!

You shouldn't be worried about graphics--they have been fine for me for the last three years or so, and I have had graphics cards down to 16 BIT, 64 MB memory, and it still worked very satisfyingly.

Planning is a cinch, provided you hit the right commands at the right time (keyboard-wise), while PLAYING.The developers of this game make those commands worthwhile, I tell you.Recently, on a mission where I was to detain a suspect that was part of a domestic crime, I ordered two of the five of my team members to each throw a flashbang and a frag grenade. What a scene!Total action, enemies eliminated in the bathroom with the use of these nifty commands. You can also direct your team members to other locations, ask them for a lightstick, all kinds of stuff.

Nothing is more intensifying and chilling as SWAT 3.I've played a lot of Rainbow Six games. But this game is much more than that.In Swat 3, planning is very realistic with the specific orders it provides, graphics are excellent and show eye-candy on the details, gameplay is so real, sound is terrifyingly real but is so very REAL!!!--like I said before, ADRENALINE-PUMPING!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Investigations needed
This game would be better if it were like the old police quest. IN the old police quest you could drive around and investigate the crime. the only problem with the old version was that it was not in first person point of view.

5-0 out of 5 stars System Requirement
Hey,
I've played SWAT 3: Close Quarters Battle for a long time on my friend computer. I want my own game and my computer system is a Windows XP. I would like to know if you have the SWAT 3: Close Quarters Battle game for Windows XP. If you do, please send me some information on how I can purchase that game for my computer. I really like that game and I want to play it on my own computer.
Thank you
Trask.

5-0 out of 5 stars tactical fps,Love IT
This game is quite fun, once you grasp the idea of the mechanics of the game. The game is all about teamplay/teamwork. You command a small group of tactical officers, and take down terrorist groups in multiple levels of maps. What I love most about this game is the command system: you issue your orders to your team on the spot, with the number pad, telling your team to open the door for you, and mirror for suspects(etc...) adds instant realism to the game. It's a Police S.W.A.T Simulation. And I love every minute that I play it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun and entertaining
Before playing this game I'd never played a game beyond a Teen rating and never had an interest to, generally turned off by violent games, but this one was certainly surprisingly interesting.

In the game you play a SWAT leader (except in different modes) and you have to capture or take down the criminals across the city, and sometimes save airplanes.

The game is violent, but is entertaining and will offer hours of gameplay. It's the first, and best action-shooter I've ever played and highly recommend it. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Every so often, a game comes along that completely redefines a particular genre. In 1998, Half-Life ignited first-person shooters with its addicting blend of storytelling and action sequences. Homeworld, a polished, groundbreaking first-time effort from Relic Entertainment, attempts to change the way gamers play real-time strategy games. In the past, none of these 3-D games have accomplished the daunting task with the same gorgeous visuals and tactical game play as Homeworld.

Upon the discovery of an ancient galactic map inscribed with the words "our home," the people of Kharak began construction of a massive mother ship and fleet to traverse the galaxy and reach their long-rumored home world. Players construct, maintain, and control the Kharak fleet through 16 challenging single-player missions or against fellow humans on Sierra's WON.net online gaming service. During the solo campaign, you'll face literally
